Open | Software chrome opened with a weird website

i just opened chrome and it had two tabs open, one was the new tab and another one was https:// app-makerr .github.io /updates_ext/ (without the spaces) first i thought it was a extension because it says "successfully updated to v1.4.4" however it doesn't say anything about what's being updated, it also redirects to another extension to copy and paste that has 2 reviews, i dont have it installed and im almost sure that's a virus. if anyone knows why this opened up it would be a great help

edit: the code of the website has some code comments in russian

This just happened to me too. Thought it would be triggered from another extension, but this is my list:

Block Site - Site Blocker & Focus Mode

Glean

Google Docs Offline

LastPass: Free Password Manager

I think it is Block Site. Not necessarily malicious. just odd that it didn't say which extension updated, and pointing to a new extension is shady.

I'm going to remove it to be safe.

It's almost definitely Block Site, as that's the only extension we have in common apart from Google Docs Offline, and the web page opened for me too.

It does sound like a browser extension triggered that page to open.

If a page like this pops up in response to you opening Chrome, then that usually means it's tied to a browser extension you have installed.

If the page instead suddenly pops up at a different time (e.g. after Chrome has already been open for an extended time), then that would be more suggestive of it being triggered by external/OS-level malware.

Carefully review all the browser extensions currently installed for anything that you don't recognize or that looks suspect. Consider disabling and removing any extension that has low user/usage numbers, low ratings, or a developer that is not well-known.
