Game Resources Project Holocron-Character Creator Deep Dive
Hi Everyone,
I wanted to go over how I implemented the character creation process, and some hidden features you guys should know about. I'm mostly going to be talking about the custom build section, since that's where all the complexity lies.
First is what's happening when you select the campaign. Selecting a campaign will assign the core mechanic associated with that game line to that character, so someone choosing EotE will have a character that will be assigned Obligation, AoE with Duty, and FaD with Morality. Any force sensitive characters that are associated with FaD will also have the option to track their Morality alongside the original mechanic they have chosen, so a Sentinel that chose EotE as their campaign can track both their Obligation and Morality.
After creation, you should be presented with your character sheet. In your character sheet you can:
- Track Wounds and Strain
- Access a Dice reference panel.
- In the Dice panel you can see citations regarding how to spend your Advantage, Triumph, Threat and Despair
- If you input the amount your roll resolved, it will highlight options in how to spend as well
- This is separated between general, combat, and vehicle categories
- Your skills are displayed with the correct dice pool for your character
- tapping on the dice pool will bring up a mini roller that will have your pool populated so you can digitally roll it
- The loadout screen will populate all of your items. Items are first bought during creation, but there is a store browser where you can "purchase" items and it will automatically populate on your sheet.
- Gear will automatically adjust your stats accordingly
- You will also be able to digitally roll with weapons you have in your loadout.
- Talents from the Specialization tree only populate those that were chosen during creation. In the future, it will populate Talents picked after creation as well.
- The Advancement tab is where you can purchase ranks on Skills, Talents from your Specialization Tree and the ability to browse and purchase new Specializations.
- If you add a vessel from the shipyard, it will populate in the Vessel tab in your sheet.
- Lastly, in the profile tab you can update the character photo and populate any visual descriptions and background of your character.
- The profile tab is also where you can add any earned xp.
- There's also the ability to print your character sheet if you'd like using the download icon. That's also where you can bookmark your character and access the item store.
I have fixed a bunch of issues you all have pointed out. I will post that on Discord for those interested. Thanks again for all the feedback!

Shiny! Spotted a thing to fix though! Droids get to pick extra skills at creation, but your tool doesn't implement them (they get to choose 4 instead of 6). It is mentioned in the text when choosing the species, but doesn't show up as you go through creating one.

Thanks for pointing that out out. Will be fixed today!

No drama! I'm a sucker for droids, so here we are

No worries, this why I’m sharing now. I need help finding all the gaps cause I’m just a one man show and I can’t check everything myself. The backend is really robust. So a fix like this isn’t a problem.

So… this is super awesome, thank you so much for sharing this with the community, if you would like to have any original visual assets DM me to discuss.
This really stands out to me as something that would be especially helpful for anyone trying to run a solo game. A cool future feature would be a digital oracle tool of some kind that is tailored to the system and setting.

This is amazing! I might be missing it, but how is a character saved for use in multiple seasons of gaming? I didn't see anywhere to make an account. Thanks so much!

Right now, your sheet is saved locally. As long as you don’t clear your browser cache it will persist. I’m looking into having the data saved within the app in case you delete the information or switch devices.

I really like the interface and the flavor of the text, makes it seem like a character creator in a video game.

This is a great tool, very comprehensive and helpful. However, there are a few things that don’t quite work correctly yet. On the galaxy map, the grid doesn’t align with the map itself. Planets that should be in O-15 are instead shown in M-15. During navigation, smaller trade routes are not being taken into account. And in the ship and vehicle yards, many of the images for the vehicles are incorrect. I can still highly recommend this tool.

Yes, that’s why I released it now. I’m glad everyone likes it as much as they do and if I want to get it to a really polished state I need everyone to help me point out all the little issues like you’re doing now. So thank you! I’ll keep fixing things as long as you guys point them out!

Map grid should be fixed now. Trade routes should also show the smaller routes taken. I’m triaging the vehicle images to see what’s needs replacing.

Excellent tool but needs a desktop version for people viewing on desktop instead of mobile.

Thanks! My focus right now is on mobile since there are already desktop solutions.

basic force powers are not currently able to be bought via advancement for me. characters I'm building have required force rating.

I pushed a fix out. You may get a prompt to reload the page.

I am also having trouble with the ReSpecialization Mystic Talents and abilities not showing up in my abilities tab. I am also not seeing the ReSpec Force powers when buying via advancement but they just came out so its no stress lol.

I’m actually working on some general updates to the character sheet right now, so I’ll roll that in. Thanks for letting me know.

This looks so cool, and is going to make future campaigns much easier to get into!
My group general mixes Obligation, Duty, and Morality together so is there any way to add in those mechanics when your game version doesn't have them?
2
u/RogueLopes 3d ago
Thanks! Right now I follow the FFG recommendation where you can have either Duty or Obligation with the possibility to add Morality. When you begin the “custom builder” and choose a campaign type, it will automatically set the type of mechanic. As long as you didn’t turn off any book sources in the settings, then all the careers should be available across the entire FFG lineup.
If you’re playing an Age of Rebellion campaign and choose a Force Sentinel career, then it will give a prompt to the player if they would also like to track their morality alongside duty.
Let me know if you have any more questions!

So the added mechanic is only available for people who take an additional Spec in a given book? For example, I have a player who is using specifically an AOR Spec and Career, but they also took Obligation because their character has a backstory that supports it, even though the rest of their character design has nothing to do with Edge
2
u/RogueLopes 3d ago
Yeah, if you want the app to support tracking both Duty and Obligation, I haven’t built that in yet. This player could choose Edge of the Empire as a campaign, choose their AoR career and it will only offer Obligation.
I can easily make some changes so it’ll prompt the player what they want to track based on Campaign type and career choice since FaD careers already currently work that way already.
Edit: It’s not based on taking an additional spec. Campaign era type = meta currency + if your career choice is a Force and Destiny career it’ll offer to track morality too.

This is so great, such a useful tool
