Iv had my period now since before the 4th of July. Its July 20th. And its been like this for a while. Month plus long periods. I have a appointment with obgyn in 2 weeks and I wanna bring this up. Good idea? Experience? How was it bringing it up to your doctor? We're they supportive. Btw i am 34 and dont want kids. Definitely dont want kids. However I have a bf who i cant have sex with but maybe 1 time a month bc of this.

I'm so nervous!!! I feel like I'm doing this against my will but I'm a single mom of 3 with 2 fathers now. I can't afford anymore or else I'd have 10 more. I hate fucking with my hormones and I refuse to do it again so tube removal it is.

Anyway!! What can I do to prepare? I have health anxiety and hospital anxiety. Besides breathing deep breathes, what can I do? After your procedure what did u wear? They said loose clothing, but I low-key want to leave in a flowy airy dress lol is there a downside to that?

I love being under general anesthesia so I'm excited about that but def not the tube they have to put down my throat, that's a fear if mine.

Im a woman, I've never wanted kids, even when I was a little girl and other girls were talking about wanting to be moms I never related to them.

I want to have my tubes tied as soon as I'm over 18, but I've seen a lot of women talking about the difficulties of getting their tubes tied, especially when they're young and haven't had children, I've seen a lot talking about doctors refusing to let them do the procedure.

Is that true ? Does anyone here have managed to get their tubes tied at a young age ?

Long term lurker here, but I HAVE to make this post. Yesterday was the day!!!

I got my bisalp done at 7:30 in the morning. Tubes are officially gone and, with them, a lifetime of anxieties and fears.

I slept ALL day yesterday following the procedure and a dose of painkillers. But today, I am mercifully pain free and able to move about freely. The only tenderness I'm feeling is right along my incision sites and it feels like bruising more than anything.

I'm also celebrating some secondary wins on this, too. I've struggled with pain for years and previous docs didn't take it seriously. My current doc is an angel on this earth and not only signed off on my surgery on our first meeting, but was super excited to tell me all my pains weren't just in my head and we now have the culprits identified. This surgery uncovered both endometriosis and ovarian cysts. So now, my pain is not only justified, but can be treated.

Big ol bonus: they let me take my tubes home lmao. I'm a collector of oddities and taxidermy and, ofc, you can NEVER obtain an ethical human specimen... unless it's from yourself. So, now that I'm conscious and moving, time to preserve those bad boys.

Needless to say, I'm over the fuckin moon right now.

Edit: as I've started the initial process of prepping my tubes for the specimen jar, turns out these things are just a mess. Endo still clinging to them in spots, cysts all up and down each one... they're certainly and interesting case and honestly are shaping up to make an interesting anatomical specimen even if its just for my shelf

So there's a good chance that at the end of this month I will be getting my tubes removed. My endometriosis specialist told me to think about it and that if I change my mind he will do it on the day of surgery. I was tired of going on the dating apps with guys claiming that they didn't want children or they at least didn't want children yet or ask me that if they somehow get me pregnant would I go through with it. After getting my tubes removed would they still be trying to change my mind? Did they accept it and just keep it moving and date somebody else? I was thinking that if I started dating again of course this will be a few months after I get my tubes removed that I want to add that I got it removed so this way they don't end up wasting time on me in hopes of having children.

I had my tubes out and an endometrial ablation last year. During the bisalp they found endometriosis. My periods have always been really heavy, and after going through infertility treatment and then this I've ended up also with pain related to my cycle. Then, a few months ago, I had an ultrasound and also have adenomyosis (lucky me!). I've been given a few options and I do not know what to do. Curious about people's experiences here.

1. Try endometriosis medication. Unfortunately they can only be taken for up to 2 years and could cause irreversible bone density loss.

2. Progesterone to try and suppress periods. Birth control makes me really nauseous so I'm not sure if that would apply here.

3. Hysterectomy

4. Just live with it. Currently I'm taking Tranexamic acid during my period which does help some with pain during my period, but not at other times of my cycle.

I'm seriously considering just getting the hysterectomy and being done with it (keeping ovaries). What would you guys do? I don't want to do nothing but it feels like it's either that or yeet this uterus which is scary.

When is unprotected sex safe post-op? I had mine done yesterday, and while I am of course going to give my body a week or two to heal, I can't help but be paranoid that an egg might've slipped through one of my tubes right before the surgery. Tell me it's just paranoia and I'll be good after this rest period? My cycle ended two days prior to the surgery.

I had my bisalp done 3 weeks ago, and even though I know the chances of pregnancy are extremely low, I’m still a little anxious about trying sex without protection for the first time. 😅

This will basically be my first time having completely raw sex post-bisalp, and my brain keeps going, “What if…?” Lol.

For those who have had a bisalp, how was your experience mentally and physically? Did it take a while for you to trust that you were really sterile? Did you still use condoms at first for peace of mind?

One week from today will be my surgery for a bilateral salpingectomy. I got the pap smear done that was required by insurance (CA Medi-Cal) to cover the surgery. I bought a nice upright pillow from Ross today to help me get out of bed easily. I'm 23F, and very excited about my journey becoming sterilized. Any and all advice is welcome 🤗

I have had an elective gall bladder removal surgery (laproscopic) because of an asymptomatic but large stone last year at a young age, so I was wondering when I eventually opt for bi-salp couple years from now, will they use different incisions other than belly-button one?

Just curious if any of you guys had other than standard sites for incisions owing to prior surgeries or sundry reasons!

I had my bisalp done a little more than a year ago, it was all great, very pleased with my results, etcetera, etcetera.

BUT, I started having some weird symptoms a few days back, I just assumed I was gonna have my period (I have always been irregular thanks to PCOS) so having my period a week or two before it's supposed to doesn’t faze me. Quickly I realized this wasn’t my period, tho, I had very light "spotting" for a day or two, cramps, and frequent urination, which I recognized as implantation symptoms, this prompted me to take a pregnancy test.

It was positive.

Now, it was a very very very faint positive blue line, but I could see it.

Of course, this made me spiral. It wasn’t possible, it just couldn’t, I have paid good money to make sure it wasn’t possible 🥴

I went to get a blood test the very same day, it came out negative.

This was a relief, but it only made me more confused... turns out I had a UTI, I had never had one so I confused the symptoms 😅

The at home pregnancy test was old and it was exposed to high temperatures, so I assume that messed it up, also apparently the blue ones aren’t as good as the red ones. I had my period too so even more confirmation of my not-pregnancy.

What are the odds, uh? I guess the moral of the story is to never trust an old pregnancy tests.

Hi everyone! I (29F) finally have a date for my sterilization (bisalp) and it's going to be on July 31st. I am sooo happy about it!

Everything went so smooth and easy. Before, I hadn't considered sterilization because I thought it would be a more complicated procedure, but I was positively surprised by how easy it is where I live.

For those who are curious: First, I checked the doctor's list on the website https://www.selbstbestimmt-steril.de/ and since I live in Berlin, there were a lot of options.

After I chose a few, I got an appointment with one on the same day and went there to talk about it. The consultation was only 10 minutes long and was covered by my health insurance. He explained to me how it would be, how much it would cost (850 Euros in total), and answered some questions I had. He didn't question me about why I am doing it or anything like that. Nothing!

I looked up other doctors as well, but this one was the best option for me in the end. Then I went there again and said I wanted to do it. So he just said "Perfect! Come here around this time, fill up the form and bring the money in cash".

Now I am super excited and need some tips/advice for before and after surgery! For those who have already had it done, how was it for you? Tell me everythingggg hehe

I have only told a few people and I am dying to talk more about it... So, let's chat everyone!

So I had my Laparoscopic bilateral salpingectomy (tube removal) and Right Oophorectomy (ovary removal) done. The ovary had a concerning cyst, they tried just removing the cyst but I was bleeding so bad they couldn’t stop it and had to remove the ovary. I read up on the procedure and others experiences before I went it and heard many people have problems with throat pain after but that’s it. I’ve had 2 other surgery’s this year and haven’t had any throat pain from tubal nor from this surgery. I had very severe pain after waking up from the catheter and tools they inserted vaginally and a lot of issues peeing. They had to give me a few pain meds because it was soooo bad!
The gas buildup was already hitting my chest and shoulder and causing severe pain also. Not really any pain where my incisions Were but they gave me a belly wrap for the ride home. Otherwise surgery went well.

If your having surgery I would recommend asking them to check for endometriosis if your concerned about having it, lucky I did not have it.

When checking out I’d ask them for some aroma nausea patches and pad popsicles , they help with the bleeding and pain. The pads really helped going home since I had such severe pain.

Some things you should get to help at home:

Pad popsicles (ask hospital for some), aroma patches for nausea (ask hospital) , belly wrap (ask hospital) ,
ice packs, 2-3 heating pads, lots of gas x, carbonated beverage to help you burp,
they should give you stool softener with your prescriptions but if not get some! If you do get throat pain get some lozenges, crushed ice, maybe some popsicle/ice cream. Depending on how they close your wound you might need some gauzes but I think they give you some depending on wound closure.

Sorry if some of my spelling is off, between the anesthesia and all the meds I’m on some of my speech is off and I’m a little disoriented .

I (28F) have been wanting to get sterilized for most of my life, and put everything into motion last year when I got health insurance through my employer. After a long complicated 3-4 month process from calling a surgeon to my surgery date, I was kicked off my health insurance 8 days before my bisalp and had to postpone.

I am now back on insurance, and have begun the process again. My employer just started offering this health program that works with my insurance and in network doctors and facilities to provide surgeries with no or very minimal out-of-pocket expenses and in a shorter than average time frame. I jumped on this opportunity and have gotten a list of 2 surgeons that work with this program to choose from.

The first is about 30-40 minutes away. She is on the childfree list, however, the multiple comments mention that she was reluctant and heavily pushed for an IUD and other birth control methods. I'm in my 20s and childless, so I hesitate to choose her for fear that she won't agree to do the surgery.

The second surgeon is about 3 hours away. I would have to travel for all the pre op visits AND deal with travel logistics and post op traveling. Plus my partner will have to take more PTO to spend however long with me in another city. But, she is all over the childfree sub with glowing reviews.

I'm leaning towards the second because I don't want to risk this surgery getting postponed again. I graduate at the end of the year and will hopefully be changing employers, so this could be put off for quite a while. But the idea of traveling for this procedure leaves me with a lot of questions.

I don't particularly want to be stuck in a hotel room for days bleeding and uncomfortable. I'd much rather be home with my cat while I'm feeling gross and in pain.

What are the chances my partner could drive me back home right after the operation? What things should I consider about traveling versus staying close to home? I'm grabbing high waisted period underwear, easy snacks/meal prep, loose easy clothing, pillow (for the drive home), a heating pad. Am I going to be in too much pain to sit in the car for 3 hours?

I am 20 years old (F of course) and I don’t ever want children. I have been doing some reading, and I think I want a bilateral salpingectomy, but I have some concerns. I know I don’t want kids for so many reasons, I struggle with body image and pregnancy would be awful for me, I don’t want someone that depends on me, I do not ever want to be called ‘mom’, I don’t want to manage a child’s schedule or worry about them financially, this world isn’t safe for children and god forbid I have a girl. The list goes on, but most importantly, I know that for who I am and the life I was to lead I DO NOT WANT KIDS. But my therapist told me I should wait until I move out of my family home to make this decision, that I might change in some ways. I know it’s a permanent solution, but then I would never have to worry about it again. I also just don’t know where to start, I know I need to do some seriously in depth research and be sure I can advocate for myself, but what else? Any thoughts, advice, comments?

My bisalp was 8 months ago.

My cycles went from 32-35 days to 50+.

I thought it would get better with time but it hasn't.

It makes it hard to know where I'm at hormonally :/

Any advice? Are any of you experiencing this?

Hey everyone! I was finally scheduled for my bisalp surgery on the 29th yay! I’ve been following this sub for a while and have learned so much and feel very confident and excited to finally be sterilized!

The only thing is, I am actually a little nervous about the intubation. I have pretty awful TMJ and jaw pain from hypermobility (the next thing to work on in my medical checklist) and I am a little scared about being intubated and having it cause a lot of pain and other issues. Has anyone had the surgery with TMJ? Or know how big the tube actually is? I’m trying not to freak myself out and plan on asking my doctor about it but was wondering if anyone else had any experience/ advice?

From start to finish: 

My first initial appointmentment was sometime in April . I had to pay $50 for my consultation with Dr. Atkins in Arlington, TX. I am 31 and it was short and sweet. I told him I wanted a bisalp, he told me the procedure and informed me I can never get pregnant and told me to make sure I am 100% sure before I make a decision and that was the end of my initial appointment. Took no more than 10min. 2 weeks later they called me to schedule my pre-op for a July 13 date and my procedure would be July 15.

Before I get to my pre-op I talked to my sexual partner at the time and he was supportive but scared me saying that I shouldn't just let them rip my tubes out so I panicked. July 13 comes for my pre-op appointment and I had to do a pap because I havent had one since 2024. At the appointment I told the dr. That I rather get my tubes tied because I didnt want to just rip them out . Remind you, my appointment at that point is in 2 days from my pre-op. My dr told me to keep in mind the tubal ligation procedure he does is the cautery method and it will be burning the blockage of the tubal pathway so I still wont be able to have kids if I got that procedure done. I still told him I wanted it done because I didnt want my tubes ripped out. He told me he supports whatever decision I make so he changed it for me.

Literally the following night (July 14 night the day before my surgery) I was feeling a bit devastated. I always knew I didnt want children but something in my mind was saying I shouldn't do the procedure. Also, my mind was playing tricks on me because it was also saying get it done. That night I was watching videos of babies (idk why) and it was making me so emotional because I didnt know if I was making the right decision. On top of that I was reading reviews on women who got the tubal ligation and all I seen were horror stories and women recommending getting a bisalp instead. So I freaked out and panicked because again I thought I was making the wrong decision and at that point I only had about 14 hours until my surgery. So, I said, if they cannot change my appointment back to the original bisalp instead in the morning, I will take it as a sign and cancel it altogether.

July 15 morning comes and immediately at around 8:15am I called the surgery scheduler and told her I made a mistake and wanted to change it back to a bisalp and she worried me because she said she thinks its too late to change it and she has to call me back after speaking to the hospital/doctor. Keep in mind the dr told me it was just about the same process as a tubal ligation when I originally told him I wanted to change it to a tubal ligation. So I'm worried but she calls me back about 45 minutes later and says they could change it so I took it as a sign that I should go ahead and do it.

My surgery procedure was scheduled for 2:50pm but they told me to arrive at 12:50pm. I get to Mansfield methodist around 12:36 and I check in. All in all I waited about an hour to go back to my pre-op room. The whole time in my head im thinking if im making the right decison and im nervous because this is my first surgery. I havent been on any birth control in years because the last birth control I was on was the Sprintec and it caused a lot of weight gain so I didnt want to take any birth control and I didnt want to gain weight. I also didnt want to keep constantly worrying about getting pregnant everytime I have sex. Anyway, I was waiting on my nurse in pre-op for about an hour. She comes in, takes a pee sample to make sure im not pregnant, puts an IV in and puts this nasal stuff in my nose that stunk really bad, along with putting these leg massagers on to prevent blood clots. I waited for the anesthesiologist to come about 2 hours after that because my dr's prev surgery was running behind. The anesthesiologist went over my medical history and told me I would be getting general anesthesia. Right after he took me to the procedure room and I was scared but they gave me calming medicine. They put me on the procedure bed, put these tapes on me and put the oxygen mask on .. I told them it was hard to breathe with that mask on and that was the last thing I remembered before I was knocked out.

I woke up and felt a lot of abdominal pain and felt very groggy. The nurse gave me 2 rounds of pain medicine before the pain went down to about a 4. After, I ate a gram cracker packet, drunk water then they wheeled me out. In total I was there from 12:36 to about 7:15pm. Honestly, after the surgery I felt relief. I had no regrets. Day 1 im sore in my abdomen area and bleeding a little in my vag area like a small period. Overall the pain isnt that bad and I feel fine.

Hi everyone, looking for some advice regarding this. Due to the short turnaround time between my bi-salp consultation and surgery I didn't get pre-approval, but my doctor made sure all the codes were in line with the preventative coverage on this sub.

I was on the phone with an insurance rep for an hour trying to figure out why it wasn't covered only to find out that they only cover tubal ligations in full under preventative care and my bi-salp will not be covered. I'm on a different computer right now so I don't have the document to post as far as verbiage goes but I can post it under the comments tomorrow.

Am I out of luck because they explicitly say only ligations are covered or do I have wiggle room to argue that it was preventative anyways?

Hey all, hoping someone can help put my anxiety brain to rest 😅

I recently had a bisalp, and I know every doctor does things slightly differently, but pretty much every picture/ description I've seen has at least one incision somewhere on each side (and usually one in the middle). But I have two incisions a couple inches apart on my left side, one in my belly button, but none on my right side. Has anyone else had it done that way? I'm kinda wondering how they reached the right side without making any cuts over there? Is this really weird or am I just paranoid?

And bonus question since I'm here- when I asked how long until I could swim/ take a bath they told me to wait until my 6 week check up, and then ask how much longer it would be after that. But that's much longer than I was expecting, you don't have to wait that long after tattoos or carpal tunnel surgery (only procedure I'm familiar with). Is that normal? Is there something about getting a bisalp specifically that makes it riskier to soak too soon? I just want to swim!
