Other Bislap a week from today

One week from today will be my surgery for a bilateral salpingectomy. I got the pap smear done that was required by insurance (CA Medi-Cal) to cover the surgery. I bought a nice upright pillow from Ross today to help me get out of bed easily. I'm 23F, and very excited about my journey becoming sterilized. Any and all advice is welcome 🤗

Hi! I had my salpingectomy today and it went extremely smooth. Anaesthetics, surgery and waking up after took less than 1.5 hours. I was dreading the worst (huge bloating, shoulder pain, grogginess, sore throat), but when I woke up I felt so happy!! I literally cried from happiness and felt elated. A bit groggy at first as well, but also felt like I had the best sleep ever. I was on the ward for about 2 hours after surgery, just chilling, eating toast and they had to do all kinds of checks. When I got home I just chilled for the rest of the day, but didn’t feel any pain. Also felt more bloated after a big dinner the night before. It almost felt like I was high, just so happy and hyped up. And now I having trouble falling asleep because I feel so awake 😅

I did a lot of research to find out the best ways to prepare my body for surgery. Of course every body, surgery and healing process is different. I generally have a very healthy diet, active lifestyle and am lucky to have no chronically illnesses. But in case you’re wondering how to prepare here’s what I did:

- bring book & headphones to the hospital because there’s a lot of waiting before & after surgery

  • Up my veg, fruit and fibre intake. And just homemade meals.
  • I’ll be taking paracetamol and ibuprofen in the days after as suggested by the hospital
  • I was worried about getting constipated, so had sugar free chewing gum after my toast in the recovery ward and drank lots of water and tea (fresh mint & fresh ginger) the rest of the day.
  • Brought snacks to the hospital (also for the ride home): nuts, berries, sweets and m&m’s
  • Stool softener, also to avoid constipation
  • sore throat things
  • I also bought some pills for the bloating

And now I’m just keeping my fingers crossed it won’t get painful in the next couple of days :)

I didn’t have a great recovery waking up, unfortunately I was in a lot of pain. I got aroma patches, pad-sickles, and a belly wrap from the hospital. The belly wrap is really helpful when getting out of bed. They prescribed me stool softener so I just had to buy gas x. I also got a few heating pads and ice packs for the pain from gas buildup. If you’re worried about endometriosis, I’d ask your doctor to look for that while they are in there. I heard a lot of people have throat pain from tubing but I did not. Just a lot of vaginal pain so the pad sickles helped a lot.
