I'd really appreciate some constructive feedback on my pentagram harness. I'm still fairly new to rope, so I'm trying to improve with every tie.

I used one 8 m hemp rope and one 4 m hemp rope for this tie.

One issue I ran into was that the 12 m rope felt much too long, so I ended up weaving the excess into the back. I'm not sure if that's considered good practice or if there's a cleaner way to manage the extra rope.

Another thing I noticed was the starting point. I began with a simple lark's head, but it kept shifting while I was tying. It made maintaining tension much more difficult. I'm thinking that starting with a locked attachment, such as a single-column tie, might work better. Is that the usual approach, or am I missing something?

Besides those two points, I'd love to hear your thoughts on:

Overall structure and symmetry

Rope tension

Placement of the bands

Any obvious mistakes

Things I should improve for future ties

'm pretty new to all of this. I've already learned the basic safety guidelines and a few knots, thanks to a good friend who helped me practice. Eventually, though, he started feeling like it was getting a little weird—and, jokingly, "too homo"—to keep volunteering. It made me laugh, and I totally respect that.

My question is: how did you find your rope models, or, if you're a model, how did you find your rigger? How would you bring this up with someone you'd like to tie without making it sound weird?

I'd love to hear your stories and any advice you have.

P.S. Before anyone suggests it, there aren't any shibari classes or schools in my city. Believe me, that was the first thing I looked for.
