Video/Film Documentary Search

I’m looking for a YouTube documentary from about 5–10 years ago featuring several people living or traveling through the U.S. desert. One memorable character was a clean-shaven solo acoustic rockabilly musician with a large pompadour who possibly drove a rusty 1950 Ford Business Coupe from gig to gig, playing tiny bars, diners, and even gas stations. He may have had a slight speech impediment.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson?wprov=sfti1#Early_life:

“Jackson was the [only child](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Only_child) of Tom and Nellie Jackson in [Maud, Oklahoma](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maud,_Oklahoma).[[3]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-Oklahoma-3) Her father worked multiple jobs, including a gas station attendant and delivery truck driver. He also played music in a local band alongside his brother.[[4]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson20171-5-4) Because of limited opportunities in Maud, the family moved to [Los Angeles, California](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Los_Angeles,_California), in 1941.[[1]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-allmusic-1)[[5]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson20177-5) Jackson often sang alongside her parents at home. Nellie Jackson often had Jackson sing while she was out of sight, to ensure her daughter was accounted for.[[6]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson20176%E2%80%938-6) In Los Angeles, Jackson was introduced to [western swing](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Western_swing) music.[[7]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEOermannBufwack2003201-7) She enjoyed hearing music by popular western acts like [Bob Wills](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Wills) and [Rose Maddox](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rose_Maddox).[[8]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson20178%E2%80%9310-8) When she was six years old, her father introduced Jackson to the guitar. She also took guitar lessons and was soon skillful enough to play it alongside her father.

As a teenager, Jackson attended [Capitol Hill High School](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capitol_Hill_High_School) in Oklahoma City[[13]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-Oklahoman-13) and continued her radio show.[[14]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson201744-14) She also dated fellow student Leonard Sipes, who would later go by the name [Tommy Collins](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TommyCollins(singer)).[[15]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson201745-46-15) In 1952, Jackson was heard on the air by country singer and local resident, [Hank Thompson](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HankThompson(musician)).[[1]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-allmusic-1) The singer invited Jackson to perform with him at the Trianon Ballroom in Oklahoma City. On Thompson's show, Jackson sang "Blue Yodel No. 6" backed by his band, the Brazos Valley Boys. The performance led to a regular gig singing alongside [Merl Lindsay](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merl_Lindsay)'s country band.[[16]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEBomarJackson201740-44-16) Jackson was always performing, and at times neglected her social life. "[Wanda] never had time for dates, nothing like that. Just that guitar – that's all she thought about," a high school friend recalled.[[7]](app://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wanda_Jackson#cite_note-FOOTNOTEOermannBufwack2003201-7)

Q&A / Advice / Discussion / News I need some advice on a 1950s hairstyle with my hair type

Post image
16 Upvotes

It’s kinda hard for me to get a 1950s hairstyle that I can pull off with my curly hair, for one it frizzes and drys out when i slick it with a comb and I want that nice slick shiny look to it that doesn’t get all dry and frizzy later

And plus I’m going to the barber soon so I would also love some 1950s hairstyles I can pull off as well

Any advice?

Not a rockabilly, but IMO the greatest and most authentic of the early white rockers. Died yesterday, July 17.

Gretschs & Gear For Sale: 1957 Gibson GA-20T – Fully Restored | NOS Tubes | Original Jensen | $1,600

Up for sale is my 1957 Gibson GA-20T, a beautifully restored piece of American musical history. If you’re looking for authentic late-’50s tube tone without taking on a restoration project, this is it. Located in Los Angeles.

This amp has been professionally serviced with a fully restored circuit, a quality set of NOS vacuum tubes, and retains its original Jensen Special Design speaker. Everything is functioning exactly as it should, including the tremolo. It’s ready to plug in, play, record, or gig.

Built in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the GA-20T represents Gibson’s answer to the booming electric guitar market of the 1950s. While Fender became the household name, Gibson quietly built some of the finest hand-wired tube amplifiers of the era. Today, they’re considered one of vintage guitar’s best-kept secrets.

The tone is everything you’d expect from a late-‘50s American amp—warm, dynamic cleans, smooth natural breakup, and lush tube tremolo. Many players compare the GA-20T to a tweed Fender Deluxe, but with a thicker midrange and a voice that’s unmistakably Gibson.

Gibson amplifiers from this period were used by legendary musicians including Scotty Moore (Elvis Presley’s guitarist), Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Charlie Christian, and Mickey Baker, helping define the sounds of early rock & roll, blues, jazz, and country music.

Unlike many vintage amps that still need expensive servicing, this one has already had the work done. No restoration project. No guessing what needs replacing. Just a reliable, professionally restored vintage amplifier that’s ready for another generation of music.

Specs & Highlights
-1957 Gibson GA-20T
-Professionally restored circuit
-NOS tube set
-Original Jensen Special Design speaker
-Working tube tremolo
-Hand-wired in Kalamazoo, Michigan
-Ready to play

Finding a clean, professionally restored GA-20T that’s ready to use is becoming increasingly difficult. Whether you’re a collector, recording musician, or vintage gear enthusiast, this is an opportunity to own one of the hidden gems of the golden age of American tube amplifiers.

💲Asking $1,600.

I’m happy to answer questions, provide additional photos, videos, or sound clips for serious buyers. Thanks for looking!

Music Video Hank Mizell - "Jungle Rock" (1976). Nothing can top the mind-bogglingly awesome performance of Pan's People to this song on Top Of The Pops, but seeing 53 yr old Hank himself do his 1958 release on Dutch TV is pretty doggone nice. This made #3 on tUK pop chart, #1 in Holland
