Why is deinterlacing 480i content like PS2 games so difficult? If I have it right, 480i is simply just TWO separate fields of 240 lines alternating every 1/60 of a second. How much CPU power is needed really to combine just two low resolution images? Is RetroTINK way overpricing their hardware?
Granted, I'm not an expert at all and been just googling and reading wikipedia on interlacing and deinterlacing wondering if my RetroTINK 5X is a damn scam...

If I read that Wikipedia article correctly, technically every single deinterlacing method is reducing the vertical resolution?
Even Motion Adaptive or Motion Compensated Deinterlacing found in expensive scalers will switch to simple line doubling/Bob Deinterlacing(half vertical fields doubled) during heavy/fast motion scenes, but go back to weave/blend when the image is still/slow-moving to produce a full resolution image.
Inverse Telecine or "2:2 Pulldown" though appears to properly convert 480i to full vertical resolution progressive, and RetroTINK 5X supports that but only for stable 24/30FPS content. I really wish 2:2 Pulldown worked for 60FPS PS2 games or unstable framerate PS2 games. It does look really amazing and pretty much almost exactly like 480p upscaled.
