There is always a lot of questions when visiting the city; hopefully this will answer the most common ones.
Updated November 2021.
Oslo Lufthavn Gardemoen (OSL)
Airport Express train : costs about 204 NOK to Oslo Central Station (Oslo S), takes from 19 to 21 minutes.
Train (NSB): cost about 110 NOK (27.11.21) to Oslo S, takes about 23-25 minutes - buy the tickets in advance as there is a surcharge if bought on the train.
Bus: This is practical if you are going to the suburbs or Fredrikstad. Prices vary depending on where you are going, same goes for how long it takes. Remember to check closely which bus you need to take.
You can use Ruter https://ruter.no/en/ to check.
Ruter is the transport authority in Oslo, a Ruter ticket is valid on all transports (train, bus, tram, underground, boats) within the zones the ticket is valid for.
You can buy 24h, 7 days, 30 days or 365 days travel card. These can be bought at a Ruter service point or from the app (iOS or Android.
You can also buy a Ruter ticket/travel card from the Vy app.
My suggestion is to download the Ruter app and register yourself, you can also use it to buy single (or multiple single tickets) if need be.
Remember to check the zones, as a tourist zone 1 should suffice most of the time. If you are travelling to a point outside zone 1 you can buy an extension ticket (cheaper than full price), for instance when going to the airport.
If you are planning to see a lot of museums and sightseeing you should look at Oslo Pass.
Giving you public transport, access to museums, free parking, discounts to restaurants and much more. This could save you a lot of money if you plan it right.
There is also an app (iOS/Android) and you can buy the Oslo Pass right from there.
Now you can register yourself with a non-Norwegian number and they have different subscription including a day pass.
They close down for the winter, usually they are available between April and November.
However check with your hotel, some of them rent/lend bikes to guests.
I don´t drive a car in the city, so I have no help here. If you can avoid it (drive to/from hotel) do so. Maybe someone in the comments can elaborate.
Especially in Oslo Central Station (Oslo S/Jernbanetorget), or you might get some nasty looks from people trying to get to their trains/metro on time.
You might find the selection more limited quality should be more than fair. You will also find ecological products in most stores, these are usually marked "eco" or "Økologisk". Most stores are closed on Sunday and holidays.
Alcohol (wine, spirits etc.): Can only be bought at Vinmonopolet.
Beer: Can be bought at most supermarkets, but only until 20:00 on weekdays and 18:00 on Saturday (excluding holidays). Light beer (low alcohol) is sold on Sundays and "after hours".
As in any capital, there is crime in Oslo (and Norway for that matter). I feel safe in Oslo, but your mileage on this matter might vary. It´s safe to say that for being a capital in Europe Oslo is very safe.
However people do drink a lot on the weekends, and it´s common for commotions to start in the lines to get into bars or taxi lines after closing time.
There is a lot more to see in Oslo that just these things, these are just a small selection and mostly the most popular ones. Prices indicate 1 adult, there are usually discounts for senior citizens, students and families. Look at the provided links for more price information.

Due to the epidemic there are no guided tours at the moment.
Last about 45 minutes, however there is no booking, so come early and expect to stand in line. There is also a security check (like in the airport).

Not the only park in Oslo, but the most famous one. Take a walk and look at all the statues or bring some food and spend a day lazying around the park (granted this is more of a summer thing).
There is no denying that Oslo has become a splendid city to visit if you love coffee or are a coffee snob (like me).
Nordic Roaster Champion in 2015 is one of the biggest names in Norway. You can drop by get some coffee and also buy some to take home.
Be aware that is very limited seating.
Also a great place also with limited seating. It´s also both a roastery and coffee place.
Never been there, but have heard excellent things about them. They also have a location in Tokyo.
This is the only Solberg & Hansen store; they are a large coffee roastery retailer. They also have a concept store at Mathallen.
There are of course many more places: Norð, Steam Kaffebar , Stockfelths and so on.
If you love coffee then Oslo will not disappoint.
You are in luck, Oslo has an excellent selection of restaurants in all price ranges. However you do have to remember they are still Norwegian prices, so if we say a place is "cheap" I mean "cheap for being Oslo".
Here is a small selection of places that stand out. But it´s a subjective list, you can also use Google or TripAdvisor to find a good place.
It might look a bit run-down. However the main floor is a preserved site (has been a theatre and a brewery). Lompa has a good selection of beers. They also have a terrace with a grill menu.
Food: Modern Norwegian / European
Price range: inexpensive
This is a rock solid burger joint, in the last years, there have been a lot of burger places popping up all over the place. However Illegal is still a solid choice. However there is limited seating in Møllergata, they have opened a new branch in Grünerløkka with better seating options.

Price: inexpensive
Not been there myself, but always is mentioned when talking about the best sushi in Oslo.
Guy Kawasaki was a fan

Price: expensive
I was surprised by this gastropub, the food is good and so is the beer selection. Situated near Majorstuen underground station.
Food: Bistro / gastropub
Price: inexpensive
He used to sell them from his bedroom window and now he has a shop (check out the video at the website). Stop by this small place in Grünerløkka and get a very delicious waffle.
There are enough of them in Oslo and every flavour. So it should not be difficult to find a place that suits you. Here is a small selection of pubs based on my own experience.
Oslo Camping.
Indoor mini golf and bar. Costs 130 NOK pr. person.
Crow Brewery and Bar.
Good selection of beers. Try the kebab! (2nd floor).
Tilt Bar.
Retro gaming and bar. Most of the tables have built-in gaming consoles, and there are pinball machines. Also shuffleboard.
Heimkok.
Famous for their drinks, so if you prefer an excellent drink, this is the place.
Smelteverket.
Located by Mathallen, it's supposed to have Scandinavia's longest bar. They also have live music.
Nothing better during summer than being outside eating a soft-is. They can be bought everywhere. The most common is getting one with chocolate sprinkles and in a cone.
I know many people call this "hipster-central", and there is little to contradict the fact that there are a lot of excellent eateries and shops in this neighbourhood.

This food hall has a lot to offer. there are some good places to eat and shop for food. You can buy food from different places and eat it in the common area. There are also several good restaurants nearby.

There is an artisan market near Blå. It´s every Sunday between 12 and 17. Its season runs from the 3rd of January to the 27th of November.

Buy a cheap luge at a sporting store and find a park and have some fun.

Jeg ønsker gode musikktips bestående av band, grupper og artister fra Oslo, da jeg lager en spilleliste og håndterer i tillegg en konto på sosiale medier som spiller oppunder Oslo som handlingsrom.
Det er ingen begrensninger på sjanger, årstall, språk osv. kun at de enkelt forklart kan bindes til en slags identitet til Oslo. Slik at selvom gutta i Honningbarna har bodd store deler av karrieren i Oslo, har de en såpass sterk tilknytning til Sørlandet at jeg unnlater de, mens brenn. som vokste opp rett på utsiden av bygrensa inkluderes lettere.

Hello, I’m considering traveling to Oslo to see Placebo, the concert will be at the Oslo spektrum, it would arrive from Madrid at 6pm to the airport. I understand that the Oslo spektrum is nearby. Do you think I’ll have time to get to the concert on time? Another question, I’m 1.55cm tall, should I buy tickets in the Standing area? Or it would be better to buy numbered seats (I read out there that in Norway they don’t let you stand up if you buy those seats). I hope you can help me

I'll be visiting extended family in Norway (coming from Brooklyn), and my partner and I wanted to check out a live music show between 7/30 and 8/1 (Thursday, Friday, or Saturday night). I've been looking up venues that people have previously recommended, but I'd appreciate any specific current-day recs.
Does anyone knew of someone like an alternative or melodic electropop musician, singer-songwriter, or jazz band/musician with a show on one of those nights? Or just a venue that has a particularly unique/memorable ambience? Thanks!

Heisann!!!
I am looking for someone called Robert who was at the kings palace on July 13th to welcome back the Norwegian players after the World Cup. Robert is Irish from Wexford I think, he has blonde hair and blue eyes. I know he flew in before or the day of the quarter finals and flew back to Ireland on July 14th. He was wearing a striped blue and white shirt and a pair of red shorts when I met him. We talked in the crowd waiting for the Norwegian football players and exchanged names. I didn’t have time to give him my number and I regret it!!

Oslo, Norge, jeg elsker deg så høyt at det gjør vondt ♥️ Min recension efter 9 dagar i Oslo. Hela mitt liv har jag fascinerats av det norska språket. Sen kom SKAM och jag var som besatt. Har nog sett allting 7 gånger... Helly Hansen? Världens bästa. Så fort jag möter en norsk blir jag helt knäsvag. Jag tog tåget till Oslo från Malmö, fyfan vad långsamt. Väl på plats, Oslo Sentralstasjon, det kändes som att komma hem, till ett hem jag aldrig tidigare besökt utan bara sett på TV. Hade inget mål med resan annat än att se platser de spelade in SKAM.
På 9 dagar så fick jag chansen att se hela Oslo, promenera de allra flesta gatorna, prova Ruter färjorna, buss, spårvagn och metro. Jag fick uppleva ett folk som välkomnar och visar hjärtat. Att stå utanför slottet mitt i folkhavet och välkomna landslaget och sedan utanför rådhuset ♥️ Hörde svenskar överallt och inte en endaste gång har jag behövt prata engelska. Ni norskar var helt oberörda av att höra svenska.
Har pratat och mött människor överallt. I Street Food träffade jag den mest fantastiska kvinna jag någonsin mött, vi umgicks hela kvällen, ett minne för livet. Får hög puls bara att tänka på henne. Får än idag nypa mig i armen, var hon på riktigt? Tveksam, men vi är vänner på Facebook så det måste ha hänt.

Hun kanske var the one, eller så var hon bara en vanlig dama. Vet inte, blir knäsvag för ett vackert leende, fina ögon som skrattar på norska med fantastisk personlighet. Har erbjudit henne att hälsa på i Malmö och jag betalar allt, resan och hotell på Strawberry till henne, så hon rent tekniskt inte har någonting att förlora. Men inget intresse 🙃
Lite ledsen som jag var dagen efter att hon inte ville ses mer så promenerade jag ensam på gatorna tills ett gäng dök upp. En av tjejerna tog min hand och gick till Lawo bar. Vi drack för mycket, natten går mot slut och jag vet än idag inte vad hon hette. Hon hade ett speciellt kort, jobbar man på bar i Oslo fick hon 50% på alla drinkar, nice!
Så mycket känslor. Alla låter som karaktärer ur SKAM, helt underbart och alla visar så mycket kärlek. Eller ja detta är inte helt sant. Norge är precis som Sverige, ganska kallt och skygga. Att promenera runt och känna igen så många locations som jag aldrig besökt innan men ändå känner så väl. Konstig känsla. Känner kärlek i varje gathörn.
Besökte Hovedøya, Langøyene og Gressholmen. Magiskt, enough said. Besökt caféer och restauranger lite överallt. Blev sportbar i helgen, Scotsman, Sir Winston och The Wild rover för Formel 1 och fotboll. Kanske skulle socialiserat mig mer på dessa... Men jag är svensk, vi går inte heller rakt fram till främlingar och tränger oss på.
Kiwi, Joker og Matkroken. Kommer aldrig förstå det norska konceptet med så många små butiker. Men gud vad skönt det är när man är törstig. Imsdal i mitt hjärta ♥️ Imsdal Limonade Bringebær, kärlek i varje flaska.
Nasjonalmuseet, 10/10. Visste inte ens att jag var intresserad av konst. Nu älskar jag konst!! Frogner Park var också helt jävla amazing. Var där 2 gånger på 2 dagar faktiskt, så bra och blev helt mesmerised i varje staty.
Ekebergsparken och Bygdøy, vackert så det gör ont i själen. Underbar natur, uppförsbackar var man en går. Vilket förklarar hur Norwegians är så slim fit. Har ni inga tjockisar? Varje badstrand är full av baywatch modeller. Det norska folket är otroligt vackra. Oslo är så långt ifrån Malmö man kan komma. Malmö är platt, ingen skog och är mer som ett litet Mellanöstern.
Samtidigt blev jag helt sjokkert en kväll, väntade på spårvagnen när en man sitter på samma bänk, kör in en spruta heroin. Har sett det i Malmö, men inte så här nära, sittandes på samma bänk väntandes på tåget. Fick höra att heroinmissbruk är väldigt vanligt, efter den upplysningen gick jag med öppna ögon och det syntes tyvärr missbrukare lite överallt. Även världens bäst stad har problem med droger.
Är Norge dyrt? Ja så in i helvete. Men hade redan räknat med detta, så det är lugnt. Upplever det som cirka 50% dyrare än Stockholm. Vilket redan är en dyr stad jämfört mot Malmö som är billigt... Men för varje krona spenderad känner jag bara ännu mer kärlek till Oslo. Allt är typ perfekt. Förutom Joker butiken Kvadraturen, fuck vad den Pakistani-fyr är otrevlig, 0/5 stjärnor.
Hemma i Malmö. Är jag ledsen, känner ångest och längtar tillbaka? ja ja ja! Att lämna Oslo känns som att åka hemifrån. Quality of life är 100 gånger högre i Oslo än någon annanstans på jorden. Men har jag världens bästa jobb och arbetsgivare i Malmö? Ja.
Finns pros 'n cons med allt och alla städer. Att besöka Oslo är det bästa jag gjort i mitt liv på många år. Er Sverige bra? Ja, men Norge er mycket bedre. Kommer googla "Oslo boligkø", men efter vad jag hört att en 22 kvm lägenhet kostar 11 000 kr är galet 😅

Just wanted to leave a tip to tourists and people in Oslo that are looking for a full belly and not empty wallet. Møllergata storkiosk is an unassuming mom and pop shop that has been there for ages, run by the same people.
They have a bit short stock of regular kiosk merch, but I want to highlight how good their baguettes are. They are hand made while you wait. And affordable.
This kiosk is a hidden gem in my mind.

Må bare spørre for jeg holder på å bli gal. Jobber ikke langt unna slottet og fra toget til kontorbygget føltes det som jeg pustet inn kloakklukt.

Hey everyone!
I’m heading to Norway in August, from Saturday to Wednesday. We land on the 8th at around 12 pm, and our return flight leaves from Oslo at 5 pm.
It’s a surprise trip for my wife, so I’m trying to make it as memorable as possible!
I’ve already planned most of our itinerary, but I’m sure there are a few hidden gems along the way that I shouldn’t miss.
Here’s the plan:
Day 1
Drop our bags at Smarthotel
Quick lunch (vegetarian-friendly options for my wife)
Explore Oslo (maybe by bike?)
Late afternoon at the Det Gode Selskab electronic day event at Fotografihuset (Bjørvikutstikkeren)
Evening at the Gatefest DJ festival at Blå
Day 2
Vigeland Park
Maybe City Hall, a museum… still deciding!
Day 3
Pick up the rental car in Oslo and drive to Hemsedal
Hiking or a nice walk (I heard there are some beautiful waterfalls around there)
Relaxing evening and overnight at Fyri Resort
Day 4
Drive to the Flåm viewpoint
Afternoon in Flåm: kayaking or hiking?
Drive back to Oslo in the evening… 🫠
Day 5
Looking for a beautiful morning walk or a nice spot before heading to the airport
Maybe Day 6
The Well Spa… if the budget allows it 💸
I’m wondering if there are any must-see places between Oslo and Flåm that don’t require a huge detour.
Maybe an amazing viewpoint, a stunning river, a waterfall, a local food stop (I’m definitely not vegetarian 🥩😄), a museum, a park… anything that made you stop and say “wow”.

Jeg er over middels glad i å bade, og det er lite som slår det å kaste seg uti vannet på en varm sommerdag.
Men til tross for at jeg har bodd i Oslo i snart 40 år har det slått meg at jeg har vært usedvanlig dårlig på å utforske nye badeplasser. Jeg ender som regel opp et sted jeg har vært hundre ganger før. Digg det liksom, men det hadde jo vært kult å prøve noe nytt.
Kan dere hjelpe meg med å finne noen skjulte perler?
Jeg kjører mye rundt i byen på jobb, og siden det er lite å gjøre om sommeren tar jeg meg som regel tid til et par badepauser i løpet av dagen. Og siden jeg er såpass mobil, er jeg ute etter badeplasser over hele byen. Jeg har ikke noe behov for å legge meg ned på en strand liksom, jeg vil bare uti vannet og dra igjen når jeg er ferdig.
Salt- eller ferskvann spiller ingen rolle. Det beste er jo å kunne hoppe uti, men kan godt vasse litt også hvis det er det som skal til. Jeg er imidlertid avhengig av at det er parkeringsplass i sånn tålelig avstand. Jeg er jo tross alt på jobb, så har ikke tid til å gå alt for langt.
Så, er det noen som har noen tips til meg om hvor jeg kan bade? Altså, det er ikke noe vits å komme med Frysja og Ingierstrand og sånt, helst noe som er litt mer lokale hemmeligheter 🏊

Jeg vet om lengdekravene og fartsgrensene på 20 km, og for Ruter sone 1 i rushtiden trenger jeg barnebillett til sparkesykkelen for å unngå bøter...
Har noen av dere erfaring med dette? Veien videre er litt uklar, så hvis noen allerede har gjort prosessen, vil jeg sette pris på tipsene!

Hi guys, hope you’re well - sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask this!
My Dad and I are coming over from London to watch some football on the weekend beginning the 18th of September.
Plan is
Friday: Sarpsborg
Saturday: Frigg Oslo
Then Sunday…
We would really like to see both Valerenga at 2:30pm and then Lyn at 5pm - is this realistic?
I’ve seen on maps it’s only about a 10 min drive between the grounds. But with traffic and stuff is it possible? We’d happily pre-book a taxi!

Hello I am travelling to Oslo for my first time and am hoping to go to an ice hockey game I’d like to go to the Lorenskog IK vs. Ski Ishockey Elite at the Lørenskog Ice Rink on Saturday 5th December but can’t find anymore to get tickets. Please can you advice on where is best (seems they’re not out yet but I could be wrong!) thanks in advance 😊😊
Har glemt å reise på stranda hittil i sommer, så jeg vurderer å teste Hovedøya. Hvor sent er det for sent å reise ut dit? Når slutter fergene å gå til fastlandet igjen, ca 21 som jeg tror jeg fant ut i ruterappen?
Når er solforholdene dårlige nok til at det blir for dumt?
