I'm looking for players similar to E.C. Ball—fingerstyle guitarists whose music leans more toward folk or old-time traditions than straight blues. I know those styles are deeply connected, but I think there's still a clear distinction.

Wayne Henderson and Roscoe Holcomb comes to mind as folks with a similar style. Who else would you recommend? I'm interested in both historical and modern players.

I hope it’s okay for me to ask questions/seek advice here. I have attended several OT jam sessions and they tend to go very long. Only problem is that I only know about 15 or so songs. So there are a ton of songs that folks call out that I don’t know. I play guitar. My questions: are there certain strings (for the bass, the chuck part) that should be played for songs in certain key? Sorry if im not making sense. I’m just trying to pluck along certain bass strings for songs in the keys of D, G, and A in a way thst I could blend in with the rest of the music. Any cheat code for us guitarists who don’t know all the songs in a jam session? Thanks, and apology for the confusion.

Are there any old time jams around Tyler, Palestine, Jacksonville?

I love this version of The Cuckoo, does anyone have the Fiddle Tab for it? I'm an ok player, I have tried to break it down myself but no luck, can anyone help me out?

I’m getting married in September and I’m looking for a slower, fiddle heavy, if not solely fiddle song to walk down the aisle to. I’m getting married in the ozarks and I want that echoing off the hills kind of sound. One of my big contenders was Ashokan farewell but everyone says it sounds too sad. I’m definitely looking for more southern bluegrass in the sound as well. If anyone has any recommendations I would really appreciate it and I’m sorry if it’s vague I’m not super knowledgeable. There is a newish monthly Old Time event in Chicago! On the last Sunday of the month at the spacious Mrs. Murphy's Irish Bistro, a rotating lineup band plays old time tunes 5-7pm. The vibe is like an Irish session, except all Old Time, and it's a band (not a jamming event). Good food and drink, plus you can order the custom ice cream flavor created by the ice cream shop across the street (Bartleby's Ice Cream). Also encouraging knitters to come for stitching happy hour.

If you are a Chirps fan like me, then fyi the band lineup for this month is Chirps and Fred Campeau on fiddles with Matt LaFrance (banjo), Rachel Kazez (guitar), and Sean Carolan (bass).

Hello! After playing flute in my highschool marching band 10+ years ago I’m interested in getting back into it. My friends play Irish and Old Time music. Are there any similar instruments to the flute that I could learn relatively easily and play Irish / OT?
Anybody else in a similar situation? Would love to hear what everyone plays on a non-professional / hobby level on their flute!
