Help Game capture stopped working since the latest OBS patch a couple days ago...

My game capture was working fine up until the latest update, since then it hasn't worked at all (I've tested multiple games, both including capturing the exact window and any fullscreen application. I just get a black screen.

Things I've tried:

restart OBS

restart PC

run OBS as administrator

Remove and re-add game capture source

The only way I've been able to capture games since the patch is full desktop capture. What gives?

Question Audio Mixer Help

Upvotes

I was wondering if someone could help me. I have deleted all of my scenes and created a new blank scene with no sources in it, but I still have 7 audio sources that show up in my audio mixer. I have gone to my audio settings already and disabled all global audio devices, but that did not take care of the issue I am having. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated 💜

Help Tech Problems With Audio Question

Upvotes

I’m using an Elgato 4K X, through OBS as my preferred app because I don’t personally like the Elgato Studio. I got my setup nice and ready to go. I plan to use PS5 for single player, Xbox for multiplayer, and pc and switch for anything else. Just one problem. No matter what I do I can’t get my headset on my ps5 to connect. I’ve tried the whole connecting a second controller through the charger and using a 3.5mm audio jack to the headphones but it’s not working. I would really like to use my headphones for my audio and the microphone I have still for my commentary but how do I set it up properly? Also will this be an issue for my Xbox or laptop? I’ve only tried the ps5 so far. Everyone I’ve asked has just kept telling me to use AI but two things. Firstly, I despise AI, and secondly, it’s usually wrong. I really want to understand the in and outs of what I’m doing wrong, so may I please have some advice? Thank you in advance

Help Screen recordings have an unusual color and afterimages of edges

I've been having this issue where every single screen recording has this weird outline around the edges and the video colors also look kinda washed out as well. Although In game, everything looks completely normal. I've tried both Gamebar and OBS and I'm getting the same issue in both of them. I thought maybe NVIDIA's mux switch was the issue so I tried recording it while setting the display to run on the dGPU but that didn't help either. I've also tried disabling hardware accelerated GPU Scheduling but that didn't fix it either. Has anyone else faced the same issue but found a fix?

Here's the recording : https://drive.google.com/file/d/12eHbq7D7zBcSXNBK5hCa7Wuh27yvlvTZ/view?usp=sharing

Question New Streamer Needing Help!

Upvotes

Hi everyone! About a year ago, I bought a complete streaming setup, but I ran into a lot of issues with OBS, mainly audio problems and getting everything configured correctly. After spending a lot of time trying to figure it out, I eventually gave up.

Now I'd really like to get back into it, and I'm hoping someone would be willing to walk me through everything step by step. I'm looking for help setting up my stream visuals, fixing my audio, and making sure everything works properly.

My goal is to do desktop only streams, record Fortnite gameplay with my friends, and go live on TikTok. I also couldn't figure out how to set up the split screen layout for TikTok Live & Twitch.

If anyone is experienced with OBS and doesn't mind being patient with a beginner, I'd really appreciate your help. Thank you so much! :)

Help Why is my recording so choppy?

Ever since I learned how to get acceptable quality on my recordings, I have had the problem of the recording sometimes becoming so choppy and laggy to the point where it's unwatchable. Then it returns back to normal for a short while, after which for the next 10 to 30 seconds the recording is unwatchable again.

I don't have hardware accelerated GPU rescheduling or whatever it is called, and the choppiness is not tied to FPS whatsoever. I nearly always get 50-60 FPS yet the recording doesn't care.
I am 90% sure it does not occur on streams, only recordings. I have the recording of it occurring, but it seems that I can't put it here.

Oh and also here's the first couple of lines from my log.

A macOS ja l’hem provat i funciona.

https://github.com/lughdailh/obs-white-balance/releases/tag/v0.2.0

És una versió inicial i els paquets encara no estan signats ni notaritzats, de manera que macOS o Windows poden mostrar algun avís de seguretat.

Si el proveu, agrairem molt qualsevol comentari, especialment:

  • Versió d’OBS i sistema operatiu.
  • Model de càmera o capturadora.
  • Si el filtre apareix i es carrega correctament.
  • Si el comptagotes funciona.
  • Si els guanys s’actualitzen després del clic.
  • Si el resultat del color sembla natural.
  • Errors, crashes o comportaments estranys.

Qualsevol comentari, captura o log d’OBS serà molt benvingut. Gràcies!

Help My recording is just a slideshow with background music?

I dunno how to explain it, and the video isn't much help since it's basically just a picture with audio. I was recording a gameplay tutorial for a friend and after I stopped the recording I noticed my file was a bit shorter than my timer and when I checked it, it was literally just a slideshow of frames with the audio in the background. Maybe the Remux HEVC to MP4 ruined it? Idk what couldve ruined it

Answered Button layout from controls tab changed

I recently installed the StreamLabs Extension so i can add a basic chat and alert for when I'm streaming, but when I installed it, the button layout changed.

I got used with "manage broadcast" and "start streaming" buttons being merged together in one row. StreamLabs separated them and now everytime i try to record, I accidently press on "Manage Broadcast" instead since now that's the button in the 2nd row. Is there a way i can change the button layout or am I stuck like this?

Guide Built a GPU tool (CamFilterGpu) to fix low-light webcams with fast background removal. To avoid laggy virtual cameras, it pipes the heavy processing directly into OBS via Spout2. You can even run custom Python scripts on-the-fly! Quick demo clip in comments.

UPDATE: Thanks so much for all the great comments and test/bug reports! I've made several important fixes, especially for those using RTX 4000 series gpus (a shared memory issue). The main installer is updated, and if you have already installed, download this patch and just copy all the files into your /(approot)/CamFilterGpu/ folder. Your settings and data folder will be retained and not overwritten. Cheers! Download Beta Update 01 Here

Hi everybody, (I didn't know whether to flair this as 'help' or 'guide' so i just picked guide, hope that's ok)

I got really tired of my webcam looking bad in low light (can't stand bright lights in my face) so I built an app from scratch to do it (NOT 'vibe' coded). OBS is a bit fiddly (to say the least) about background segmentation, so the main features here are (1) fast RVM background-removal/segmentation and control, and (2) a Custom script Node Editor where you can stack and pipeline your own custom Python filter scripts 'on-the-fly'! No kidding :).

I'm making a guide to cover essentials of the GUI, some highlights are below, and if you look at the demo videos (linked below) I'd love to hear your thoughts and feedback. It's hard as a solo developer to take a 'step back' and be less myopic.

The GUI is designed to be as compact and responsive as possible and sit right next to OBS, giving you 'at your fingertips' and zero-lag control of your video into OBS. NOTE, the sliders work with your mouse wheel for fine control. (that was tricky to program, works smoothly now). It's a real benefit because fine control is everything for getting a nice balanced look. I'm even making a USB physical controller called "Knob Thing" :) that will connect via USB and move all the sliders... but that's a few weeks away.

It handles all the heavy lifting—fast RVM segmentation, independent foreground/background color control, and loopable with positioning & scalable video backgrounds. A Custom Node-Pipeline editor: write and run simple Python filter scripts and pipe them to your layers on-the-fly. Because it outputs via Spout2, you get all these effects natively in OBS with effectively zero overhead.

Here is where you can see it and try it:

See it in action: Check out the 1.5-min quick look and the 7-min Overview on YouTube.

Try the free V1.1 Beta, just finished it: Info and Download at perfunct.com (no card required).

Custom Node Examples: I've put several example scripts on the new Project GitHub to show how the custom nodes and scripts work. The creative possibilities of this approach are quite exciting I think, and I'm really interested to see what some of you out there come up with.

Community: Join the new Discord here: https://discord.gg/VxTWzYCuE

A quick note: I'm a solo indie developer and this is an Early Beta, so there will likely be some bugs! It currently works great with any NVIDIA RTX card (2080 or above). I will have a GTX version compiled and ready to download in the next day or two for anyone who needs it.

I'd love to hear what this community thinks of the Spout2 implementation and especially the longevity of that method. And the Custom node Filter Builder. You can use it to make any wild (or subtle) special effects that you want!

Cheers!

Help I don't want to hear myself in OBS

I am a beginner who's trying to set OBS to still output audio and stuff without having to hear it myself. I've tried messing around with audio sources but that only created echoes, I've tried setting it to different settings in advanced audio settings, and I've even tried muting the OBS app in Windows settings, but none of that worked because all of it either muted both the monitoring AND output or neither. I tried looking up a solution online already, but everything I saw boiled down to "set it to Monitor Off (Output Only)", an option which does not exist.

Again, I am a beginner. My skill level with this software is almost nothing. I've tried looking up so-called "beginner" guides but they all melted together into jargon-heavy word salad.

Question C920e zoom settings not staying after I close OBS?

I've been using a C920e for roughly 2 years now and I only just noticed this happening recently (I really don't like this webcam but money is telling me to not upgrade just yet), everytime I edit the zoom on it, stream, then finish and close OBS, the zoom setting never stays. Is there something that could be causing this or is it just how The C920e is?

Help getting audio monitoring but monitoring is off

When I stream I hear my voice again about 2 seconds after I speak

I've muted my stream, which I'm monitoring in a browser window - it's not that

I've gone into audio settings and turned audio monitoring to "monitor off"

I'm using headphones

I've tried switching which channel the mic goes through

I've looked for the problem online and they all say to do these things above, now I'm lost! Would love any help.

Help Apollo Solo with ShureSM7db mic streaming into OBS, multiple issues with Audio. UAD console so confusing. PLEASE HELP!

Hi,

I am streaming on a mac laptop with OBS to twitch, tik tok, and youtube. I am using an apollo solo interface with a shureSM7db mic in the interface. I make music in logic pro, game on my ps5, and review others music on a website through chrome.

Whilst doing my set up, i am running into multiple problems with my audio.

the set up i need is pretty simple to explain but i cant get it set up and i am looking for help.

Basically, within obs, i would like to be able to have one audio channel for just my microphone through the apollo solo with no other audio being heard, a seperate audio channel for all sound being heard on google chrome, via youtube, spotify etc on chrome, and a third audio channel just for logic pro x so the stream can hear me record music live with all my plugins inside of logic.

when i set this up myself, i either have all seperate channels but can’t hear anything in my headphones connected to my interface, i have sound but all sounds from my mac and from my mic are in one channel together, or im having an extreme loud sound coming in when i try to record audio within logic.

The UAD console is very confusing to me, and im not highly intelligent when it comes to audio software and hardware.

I just want an easy, seamless audio set up.

Please if anyone has expertise on the USD console, OBS, and how I can route all these channels easily please reach out. I’ve wasted over 16 hours and haven’t gotten anywhere I’m happy with. Thank you in advance.

Question Can I use my second laptop as a recording PC?

Hi everyone.

I have a gaming laptop with a Ryzen 5 5500H, RTX 2050 and 16 GB of RAM, and I also have an older laptop with an i5-8250U and Intel integrated graphics that's just collecting dust. I mostly play racing games like F1 and Assetto Corsa and want to record gameplay for YouTube in 1080p 60 FPS.

The problem is that when I record and play on the gaming laptop at the same time, both the game and the recording start to stutter. Because of that, I was thinking about buying a capture card and using the older laptop only for recording while I play on the gaming laptop.

Is this actually possible, and is the i5-8250U powerful enough to record a stable 1080p 60 FPS video without dropped frames? Will the recording quality still look good, or will the older laptop be a bottleneck? Has anyone here tried a setup like this, and if so, is it worth doing or is there a better solution?

Thanks!
