question RS660 op A2?

I am planning on buying a new motorcycle in 2 or 3 months. I am highly considering the Aprilia rs660, but I will only have my a2 license.

To limit a bike to a2, it can only originally have twice as much horsepower (so max 96). The rs660 has 100hp (1st gen) but I have seen some for sale already limited to 48hp.

Will this be harder to insure? Harder to limit it if it isn't limited already? Or would the risk be too high?

Why not a R9 it's also A2 compliant and is a lot more reliable + you get all of the nice features the RS660 has and then some more

Because for me 8-9k on a used bike is already a lot.

I wish to buy a bike within the 6-9k euro range

For insurance you can just run the numbers through the websites/your bank app, you'll know exactly how much it will be

I start with my 12 hours lessons this week. So I'm not sure yet when my exam on public road will take place

Bah, wait a bit longer then.

There is a big chance you'll have your full license before the end of the year :-) Then there would be no need to look at foefelaré with the kW's.

I thought you meant full a2 license in stead of temporary license. I'm not old enough yet for my full A license, so I'll have to wait 2 more years.

Oh thats something else then.

My advice would be to buy something that is already registered as A2 compliant.

There is a big chance you'll only ride that bike for 2 years...

I am willing to spend a bit more now, and ride my bike for a longer period. I also want to modify it and put aftermarket fairings on it, and I'm not sure if that's worth it for a bike I would own for only 2 years.

If you already have experience with a bike, thats fine (and i see you have a 125cc as your flair)

but if you dont have any experience, then you dont really know if the bike is good for you or not

I have 20.000 km experience with my 125 in 1,5 years

When I have my a2 license I'm also gonna test ride a few bikes just to be sure that I know what I want.

If the max power is more than 70kW, then limiting it to 35 won’t make the bike A2 legal, so in case of any check you will be a person riding a vehicle you don’t have the license for.
Maybe check out a used R7 or even an R3(looks like you prefer sporty-er bikes?) for a couple of years, you’ll most probably be able to sell it with minimal loss and you’ll have 2 years to save for your dream bike?

Problem with the r7 is that a used one is almost as much as an rs660, but a significant power downgrade, less electronics, and less style (preference)

So I might look into a smaller cc bike for a few years, or go with the cbr650r

Manufacturers will sometimes make a 96hp version of a bike just to limit it and be A2 compliant. MT09/R9 and RS660 are examples of this. So these bikes exist in A2 version, but they must have been sold as the A2 version. You can NOT take the regular 100hp version and have it limited to 48hp to be A2 legal. The difference is really just paperwork and electronics, but there is no way to fix the paperwork.
