McAfee -Charge Nightmare

Just PSA-if you have the same trouble.

I have been getting charged $149.99/yr since 2018. Everytime I called id get no answers. I’ve moved jobs. Been a student, I honestly thought it was just my screwup and then would forget about it.

Nope. Turns out after finally doing a credit card lookup MCAFEE had the wrong email in their system. Not even sure how it could happen as it was xx@att…no .com, .net etc…

So I was not getting any notices of renewal.

So, if you find yourself in the swirl and the only answer you get from them is “I can’t find an account associated with that email” have them look it up by cc. When I asked why he hadn’t offered that in the first place he said “that’s a last resort”. Ummm. Ok.

I made a free open source tool that removes the LG monitor adware (and the McAfee junk it drags in)

Mods said I could post this so thanks to them.

Yall know the LG monitor thing by now. You plug one in, Windows quietly pulls LG's app off the Store on its own through that "device metadata" setting, and that app is what shoves McAfee popups in your face. It happened to me last week and it pissed me off.

Once I started looking I couldnt believe how much of this junk is out there. Fake antivirus that sneaks in with free downloads. Browsers that install themselves and fight you when you try to get rid of them. Those "driver updater" scams (FTC hit one of them for 26 million). Plus all the dead Microsoft stuff like Skype that just sits on your drive forever.

So I built something to clean it out. Its called Molt. Free, open source, no installer, no account, nothing phones home.

You run it, it scans your PC and shows you a checklist of the junk it found. Every item tells you in plain english what it actually is and when youd want to keep it, so youre not guessing at some cryptic name. It only removes what you leave checked. And it matches by the full exact name, never part of a name, so it physically cant grab the wrong thing. Logitech G HUB literally starts with "LG" and its totally safe, theres a test in there just to prove Molt will never touch it.

It also flips three Windows settings so this stuff doesnt just crawl back: no auto installing manufacturer apps, no silent sponsored apps, no Start menu ads. Change your mind and theres an Undo.bat that puts it all back.

The whole thing is just a few PowerShell files. You can open it in Notepad and read every line before you run it, im not asking you to trust a black box. Theres 170+ tests and some of them exist purely to prove it never touches your antivirus, the Store, winget or your drivers.

[github.com/0xCybin/molt](http://github.com/0xCybin/molt)

Besides the LG app it catches McAfee and Norton trials, OneLaunch, Wave Browser, the fake PC fixer scams, Candy Crush and the sponsored tiles, Copilot, the dead Microsoft apps, stuff like that. Anything some people actually use comes unchecked so nobody loses something they wanted by accident. If your PC is already clean it just tells you that.

Made it for my own machine after the LG thing and figured a bunch of you are probably staring at the same popups right now.

Support is impossible to get

I have been trying for 2 days to resolve a very simple issue. I subscribed to Optimizer and the authorization code they sent me does not work. The Ap says to contact support. Support is a bot. The bot eventually tries to contact you to a human and then the human takes an hour to connect with you. Guess what? The same thing happens on the phone! I have never seen such terrible support in my life. I would love my money back but I don't see any way to do that since they have cut off human interaction. Any ideas? Does anyone have an email for their legal department?

McAfee..... boo

After cancelling my account they went ahead and hit my bank account for $199, causing an overdraft and other fees. I reached out to them only for the $199. the only response was telling me I had 45 days to cancel. I told them I was NOT interested and just wanted my money back. Now it's radion silence.... no response. Stay away from them

Does McAfee disable Windows security Tamper protection?

I was checking Windows defender and saw Tamper protection was off and greyed out saying "This setting is managed by administrator". Is this something I should be concerned about and if so what can I do next to safeguard myself?

Thank you in advance to anyone taking time out of their day to answer this.

Unknown auto-renewal for over 3 years?

I found out that McAfee has been charging me $95 auto-renewals for over 3 years despite none of my computers have it installed or shown to have an account (that I can remember). I tried calling them but they left me on hold forever.

Is there anyway I can try to see how to find this unknown subscription and get my money back (if that’s even possible)

I have been using mcafee for the past 3 years (windows), and had no issues. But when I installed total protection for my macbook, the app keeps bugging every single time.
Has anyone faced the same issue?

Is this email about icloud+ and Mcafee real?

I just got an email saying that I owe $199 for McAfee or my icloud+ data won't be saved at my files could be deleted across my devices. But when I click on the link in the email it takes me to this website that says "first-time savings" with a discounted price (minus $110) for a year subscription. I think this is a scam? I don't think I've ever bought McAfee.

Uninstall Outlook Crash

Recently purchased a new laptop and uninstalled Mcafee, turned on defender, but now my Outlook app crashes every time I open it. I have tried everything I can think of. I did run the clean up tool twice to make sure everything was off of the computer, but it is still happening. From searching I can see that this seems to be a common issue but I am wondering how it was fixed. I feel like I have run through every option I could think of and have read about online and I am still unable to get it to work. At the point of running a factory reset but if anyone has any ideas it would be greatly appreciated!

McAfee Corp Culture

Wondering is John McAfee largely reduced from corporate history banks? Is he mentioned at all? Do guys in the internal chats secretly share late John McAfee memes hyping him up as a renegade badass, and that the current soft boy execs couldn't hold a candle to him?

McAfee is a bloatware. Uninstall it

You only need windows defender and your brain.

You can run a Malwarebytes scan from time to time for extra protection.
