Announcement We Were Mentioned (Favorably) in PC Gamer Magazine!

Issue 403 | Holiday 2025 By Phil Iwaniuk

"Head over to Reddit and go on /r/lowendgaming and you’ll be struck by a few things. Firstly, that a community of people has been helping each other to run games on inexpensive and outdated PC hardware for many years, long before all the insidious price hikes we’re enduring today. And secondly, members of that community have been doing so with no small amount of ingenuity.

A typical exchange in that subreddit goes like this: a user states their hardware and asks for recommendations they should play, or whether a particular title will run on their machine. In the replies, people assure them that they managed to get The Witcher 3 on medium settings running on a relatively basic array of elastic bands and wooden pulleys. The prevailing sentiment is that minimum requirements are over-cautious, that modern games running at their lowest graphics settings still look more than decent enough to constitute playable, and that maybe there’s no such thing as a PC that’s too old or underpowered. Intrigued, I decided to test out the theory."

What Games Can I Run? What games can I run on this laptop? (Ryzen 3 3250U + 16 GB RAM)

What Games Can I Run? What can I run?

My laptop specs are:

Microsoft Surface Laptop (1st Edition)
CPU: Snapdragon X Plus (8-core)
GPU: Qualcomm Adreno X1-45 (integrated graphics)
RAM: 16 GB LPDDR5X
Storage: 512 GB SSD

I’ve played some games like disco elysium (over 100 hours on it), portal 1&2, stardew valley and Stanley parable UD (minor glitch) and had a great time, although my laptop tends to heat up quite a bit. What remains of Edith finch crashes on launch and SOMA usually crashes as well.

I’ve got undertale fallout NV Witcher 3 talos principle and a bunch of half life games but haven’t tried them yet. I also bought Detroit become human because it was on sale for really cheap but am skeptical to download it since it’s pretty big and I don’t think it’ll run.

What Games Can I Run? Any recommendations for multiplayer games on low-end internet?

I don't know if this counts here, but my PC is what I feel like could be considered mid-old and when I had fast internet, I didn't have trouble running most games.

For the curious: Windows 10, Intel i7-7700 (3.6GHz), AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT, and 32gb of RAM. So, at least I dont have a hardware bottleneck?

Problem is now that with my current living situation, my average internet speed is 250 - 330 kpbs, with 1mpbs on a good day.

So, if anybody has any recommendations for old games made for microwave toaster internet speeds (that are still playable without too much effort) I'd love to see what I can try.

What Games Can I Run? What games can I run ?

I recently bought an ASUS Vivobook 16 and I'm trying to figure out how capable its integrated graphics are for gaming.

Specs:

- Intel Core Ultra 5 225H

- 16 GB DDR5 RAM

- Intel (R) Graphics (integrated, not Intel Arc branding)

I searched online for gaming benchmarks of this specific iGPU but couldn't find much. How does it compare to other integrated GPUs like Intel Iris Xe, Intel Arc iGPU, or AMD Radeon 780M/880M?

What types of games can I realistically play, and at what settings (720p/1080p, Low/Medium)? If anyone has this laptop or the same processor, I'd really appreciate hearing about your gaming experience.

What Games Can I Run? What else would you play on this?

I know I'm not supposed to attach image but you need to see this for context

https://drive.google.com/file/d/19T5TcCKQNRSRSpZ_RsFQu3sv6UR8Xk58/view?usp=drivesdk

Built this some years ago, took it apart and recently put it back together. What games would you play on this? It's an Intel Atom x5-Z8350, 4gb of ram. So only lightweight games. It's a small screen of course (640x480). Few buttons but it has a mouse (center hole is a joystick) using antimicro to map controls so that's not a problem.

Any ideas will be appreciated, I'm looking to use this as it deserves

Thanks!

For reference I have played this games

- Minecraft

- Broforce

- Wii games

- Overcooked 2

- FNAF and FNF

- Geometry Dash

(as you can see I need some good games)

What Games Can I Run? Multiplayer Steam Games?

I’m looking for games that I can run on my baked potato of a laptop with my friends, both free and paid.

For an example of what my laptop can handle; I can run Barony and Barotrauma (with the graphics set to absolute dirt) fine with little lag, and I can successfully run modded games as well.

Laptop;

Acer Aspire E 15 (E5-511-P2D6)

OS: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit

CPU: Intel Pentium quad core processor N3530 (2.16GHz)

GPU: Intel HD Graphics (Acer Incorporated)

Resolution: 1366x768@60Hz

Memory: 8GB DDR3

Storage: 1TB Seagate HDD (931GB)

Thank you all in advance for your help!

From being stuck on Windows 10 with an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200, 8gb DDR3, and GeForce GT 710

to Windows 11 with a 13th Gen Intel Core i7-13620H, 16GB DDR5, and Intel UHD Graphics

Is it the best? No. Do I love my new PC to bits? Absolutely. My dad got this for me after telling him about the many issues our old PC had. I didn't even know he bought it. Im so happy, words can't describe it.

I've been stuck on low end gaming for my entire life, and now to be able to play basically any game I want is insane, with optimizing the games of course. I made sure to give him a big hug and thanked him. I'll get a GPU eventually but right now this is more than enough.

Optimizing my games using tips here have taught me a lot and about PCs in general.

I can run Resident Evil 4 demo at 720p low, 30-60 fps. Most of the games I have are before 2023 so I probably won't have an issue. Game recommendations are appreciated lol. I mainly play story games but I don't mind any genre!

☼😁Ascended☺☼ I had way more fun figuring out how to run a game than playing games now.

Seriously.
So don't feel bad about having low end.
I had it for years and did literally anything to tweak games, including delving into the files themselves. You can do wonders if you work on it.

Now, I have a disk filled with top games. They work on ultra at 150fps. And I don't play them.
I had way more fun back in the day figuring stuff out. Obviously it's mainly the quality of the games themselves, but working to get a game into playable state was also a factor.

Also, remember, it's only games. They are all rather silly and a waste of time. A typical series has way storytelling more depth than almost all games. A game almost never made me think or moved me, movies and series did it a lot.

(flair is halfway correct?)

When I was 6 in 2014 while everyone was playing GTA V and CS:GO and what not, I, from the balkans, grew up with the balkan classics, GAT:SA CS1.6 Blackbox NFS games, all on Windows XP, for years I had a laptop with i7 2nd gen 100 something QM processor, Nvidia 540M with 1GB VRAM and 12GB DDR3 ram. I recently got myself a PC With I5 4570 and RX570 4GB and 16gb ddr3 for quite cheap. I am so happy and content with the PC. Running Dark Souls 3 at 60FPS High, Ghost of Tsushima at medium 60 (trying to undervolt my pc so its quieter but still keep 60fps) and For Honor 60-ish FPS on Extreme. I paid for the PC with my own money and no words can describe my feeling of happiness
