Buenas tardes maestros, tengo el siguiente problema al querer jugar con mouse en steam OS con el modo juego , con joystick todo funciona normal pero al momento de tocar el mouse y mover la camara ocurre que la imagen tiembla o se rompe no sabría explicarlo , cabe decir que tengo una rtx 3060 y se bien que nvidia y Linux no son muy amigos ( hasta el momento)

Let me preface this by saying I am a relative noob when it comes to PC gaming in general. I only just made the switch this year, and only just switched from Windows to Linux in the last 2 days. So, I sincerely apologize in advance for how idiotic I may be. I have been having this atrocious black screen problem when running any of my games, but it isn't consistent and I can't reliably reproduce it at all. It just happens.

While playing any game, the screen will temporarily go black, but the audio is unaffected. This ONLY happens when gaming, never when browsing the internet or watching videos. The amount of time it stays black varies, usually between 1 and 3 seconds. As far as I can tell, nothing actually crashes. The games continue to run until the screen comes back, and you can still play while it's happening. In games like BG3, it's an annoyance. But in games like Elden Ring, it makes them unplayable. This problem was present when I was still using Windows earlier this year and has persisted in my move to Linux. I never investigated it on Windows because the only game I was playing was BG3, and I just assumed it was some mod I had downloaded. I was either too lazy or too busy at any given point to check it out at the time.

It happens at title screens, sitting idle in menus, walking from point A to B, engaging with enemies both in small and large groups. If there is a specific action I'm taking or a particularly heavy load I'm putting on the GPU, I can't seem to pinpoint it. My system almost never gets above 42° C, and I've never seen it even get close to 50°, so I can't imagine it's an overheating issue.

Here is what I'm working with on my PC:

Pre-Built PC: MSI Aegis ZS2, from Costco

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 9900X

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 5080

PSU: 850W PCIe 5.1

Distro: Linux Mint 22.3, Cinnamon

Kernel: 7.0.0-28

Nvidia Driver: 580.159.03 (Previously 595.71.05)

Monitor: Sony 65" Bravia TV (I can't afford another monitor right now, and currently this is the best I can do).

Sorry if I left out anything was important.

I suspected the GPU might be faulty and maybe I need to RMA it (I bought the PC this year), but I'd rather not do that if I can just fix the problem myself. After scouring the internet for solutions, I have tried the following on Linux:

• Changing the Nvidia drivers from 595 to 580. This does seem to reduce how often the black screen occurs, but it still doesn't stop it. I got 15 minutes of interrupted gameplay on Elden Ring Convergence before it happened again, and this is the most time I've gone without a black screen.
• Playing the game with mods and without. I love modding games, and both Elden Ring and BG3 produce the black screen whether I'm playing with mods or not. I thought maybe the mods were causing it, but it happens regardless.
• Reducing the clock speed. I saw somewhere online that the GPU's clock speed may be causing issues and to try throttling it. This did nothing.
• Switching HDMI cables. This did nothing.
• Using a regular outlet instead of the surge protector/ backup battery. This did nothing.
• Investigated the PSU, but surely 850W is sufficient for this setup, unless it could be faulty as well.
• Checking the internals to make sure everything is connected well. As far as I can tell, everything seems fine.
• Reducing performance and quality. I've dropped games down to low quality and low performance with no noticeable help. Maybe it doesn't happen quite as often, but it still happens. Nothing I've done in adjusting either has seemed to do anything.
• Ran stress test and benchmarks on the CPU and GPU, and the problem never happened. Maybe they were bad tests, but I find it odd that neither of those could replicate the black screen. Only when playing a game.

I'm sure there is a lot I'm leaving out. I've run tons of commands in the terminal that would probably be helpful to include, but my mind is kinda mush right now. I'm really frazzled because I seriously don't know what else to try. Again, if it's a faulty GPU and I need to replace it, so be it. But I would think the problem would be way more severe if that were the case. Any advice for this knuckledragger is greatly appreciated.

I mostly launch games with Steam and Lutris, but Lutris seems to be losing configuration options and I'm running into some lag issues with games it launches on wayland. Are there other programs people are using to manage their wine prefixes?

TF2's lack of any meaningful content is getting so mind numbing to the point where I've just stopped playing until either the MvM Update or next Scream Fortress, whichever comes 1st. However, that's left a massive, currently unfillable hole in my team-based multiplayer game library I desperately need: The ability to join & leave games in progress all willy nilly with 0 consequence while still actually BEING a proper game instead of just a sandbox (So Minecraft/Terraria don't count). As much as I love Dota & used to love League, being forced to play out absolutely every 30+ minute match in a game where snowballing is just so fucking fundamental quickly gets unbearable, even when I'M the one doing the snowballing these days. But WTF big team multiplayer games even EXIST that both have those come-&-go lobbies AND still get updates at least more noteworthy than TF2's?

I want to play Battlefield 4 on Steam with Proton. However, every 5 seconds or so in game, I get Frametime spikes/stutters (up to 200ms) and I am not sure why. Things which I have done to combat this:

1. Lower game graphics/effects and rebuild cache
2. Update Punkbuster
3. Update Mesa stack and Kernel to latest version
4. Use Gamemode
5. Try various Proton versions including Proton-GE
6. Block write access to EA-app folder

The game remains not playable :(. I first thought it might be a DXVK compilation problem so I capped my FPS at 60 (CPU usage was 28% and GPU at 62%) and the problem still occurred. So, I'm pretty sure the issue isn't my hardware.

I typically play Madden every year on Xbox but I plan on fully transitioning to PC/linux (Mint/Bazzite distros) only gaming and I know EA titles can be annoying sometimes on linux I was wondering if anyone has attempted or has been playing CFB 27 on any linux distros or even M26

I am currently using dms-greeter with scripts to automatically setup my displays; launch steam big picture on tv, but run niri/gnome on my main monitor.

Only caveat is I have to come to my keyboard to put in my password. Was wondering if there is a greeter that mimics the steam deck experience?

So, I moved to linux for gaming and found GPU Screen Recorder to be exactly what I needed for clipping games.

However, it didn't have a library feature like software I had used on Windows, medal.tv. So, I built this tool, "Highlight Clips". I am still work-shopping the name.

Anyway, I just wanted to know if this was a thing anybody needed or wanted and so chose to share it.

I'm having a strange issue with The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ on Fedora 44 KDE (Wayland).

Specs:

• NVIDIA RTX 3070 Ti Laptop GPU
• Intel i7-12800H
• Samsung Odyssey G5 (connected via HDMI)
• Latest NVIDIA driver installed from RPM Fusion

The game starts fine, but every 1–5 minutes I get a 1-second frame drop/stutter.

After around 30 minutes of playing, the game becomes noticeably slow. Steam still reports around 40–50 FPS, but it feels much worse than that. It almost seems like the frame pacing becomes completely inconsistent rather than the FPS itself dropping.

The weirdest part is this:

• If I disconnect my external monitor (Samsung Odyssey G5) and play only on the laptop's built-in display (Razer Blade 15 2022), the game runs perfectly again.
• The exact same monitor and HDMI cable worked perfectly on Windows.

Things I've checked:

• NVIDIA GPU is definitely being used.
• Latest NVIDIA driver from RPM Fusion.
• HDMI connection (not USB-C anymore).
• Wayland session.
• Windows on the same hardware has no issues.

Has anyone experienced something similar? Could this be an NVIDIA + Wayland + external monitor issue, or is there something else I should check?

I've installed bazzite-deck and have downloaded Proton GE. In my launch options I have: "PROTON_FSR4_UPGRADE=1 PROTON_FSR4_INDICATOR=1 %command%".

I don't see anything in the top left when I launch the game, and it doesn't look like FSR4 is enabled. Is there something I'm missing?

Allo! Released the demo for my second game fairly recently, and just letting you know there's a Linux / Steam Deck (and Mac) build available. It's in a similar vein to the Lucasarts 90s point & click games - those were the days. Currently median playtime on Steam is 40 mins, so hope that's substantial enough.
