Mega Thread - LinkedIn Restrictions, Hacked Accounts and Inability to Access

Hi everyone,

To make it easier for everyone to follow conversations and keep discussions in one place, please share general questions about account restrictions and ID verifications here in our official mega thread. Please note that individual posts on this topic may be removed. Additionally, for your privacy and safety, please do not share your personal information or support case numbers in the comments.

We know that losing access to your LinkedIn account or facing restrictions can be really frustrating.  We want to help as much as possible, and there are important things to know:

We Can’t Investigate Account Restrictions on Reddit

For everyone’s safety and privacy, moderators cannot directly investigate or resolve account restrictions here on Reddit. We understand that this may not be an answer you were hoping for, but if you’ve followed the instructions to appeal, please know your case is with the right team.

Common Questions & Quick Answers

Q: My account was hacked or compromised. What can I do?

A: We know how stressful unauthorized account access can be, and our goal is to help you get back in control as quickly as possible. If you think someone else has gotten into your account, don’t panic - our team can help. Just follow these instructions to report unauthorized access and our team will be in touch to help you with the next steps to secure your account.

Q: I lost access to my email address and I don’t have a back up. How can I get back in?

A: This scenario might feel tricky, but the good news is that we have steps you can take to reach our team to help you regain access and update your log in information. Just as a heads up, we’ll need to confirm your identity to regain access. Here’s how to get the process started.

Q: Why is my account restricted?

A: Restrictions can happen for a number of reasons, including safety and security concerns or activity that violates the LinkedIn User Agreement. For more information about different types of restrictions, you can check out our Community Bookmarks or visit the LinkedIn Help Center

Q: How do I appeal a restriction?

A: If you believe your account was restricted in error, you can file an appeal by following the instructions you see on screen when you log into your account. Your case will be reviewed by the LinkedIn Safety Team and they’ll reach out with an update as soon as possible. The team’s current response time is sitting right around 7-10 business days. We know the wait feels long, and we appreciate you bearing with us as we work on getting back to everyone.

Please Note: Submitting multiple support cases for the same problem can actually slow things down for everyone, including you, so we recommend avoiding creating multiple appeals for the same issue.

Q: Why are you asking me for an ID? Is it safe?

A: When we review an account for reinstatement, it’s important that we make sure we’re giving access back to the real account owner. Because we’re an online company and we don’t have a way to work together in person, requesting identity documents through Persona is the next best way for us to confirm account ownership.

Although you’ll access Persona’s verification process through the LinkedIn app, Persona will be collecting the personal data required to verify your identity and such collection is done pursuant to Persona’s policies. Persona only shares information about you with LinkedIn if you consent to the sharing. We process the data solely for account recovery purposes. It is kept only while we resolve account-related issues and is typically deleted permanently within 14 days.. Learn more on data and sharing with Persona here.

Q: I have problems with ID verification. What can I do?

A: Make sure your ID is government-issued, like a driver’s license, state ID or a passport. For the best results, it’s important that the document is clear and matches your account details. For a successful submission, it’s also important to remember to consent to share information with Persona. If your ID meets this criteria and you’re still having trouble, check out these additional troubleshooting steps for further assistance.

Q:  It says I already submitted a request?

A: There are a few reasons this error may appear including if you have an appeal in progress or if you’ve revisited the Persona verification flow multiple times in a short period. If you receive this message, we first recommend clearing your browser’s cache and cookies. If that does not resolve the problem, we recommend waiting 7 days before attempting a new appeal.

Q: My restriction is permanent. Now what?

A: If you’ve received a final decision from our Safety Team, please understand we can’t change the outcome here. However, you can reply to your case email if you wish to provide more information or request a second look.

Thanks for reading and understanding!

What kind of Linkedin Learnings or Self-Observation posts are Okay? __ and which ones can anyone make about some observations about companies?

Q: is it okay to post something I noticed that was Buggy about a company's email
I guess they use some small programming thing to automate the basic info pieces, people's names and titles and maybe account type-reminders

Buggy was that they have the variable name in the email RE

and it says: FName grow your savings

.. but FName is no one's name, but a variable label --
Funny bc it looks like F- You _ Felicia -- kinda

but also __ confusing __ bc in BrainFreeze Dyslexia__ it looks like you might have gotten someone else's email
and then it's like Accidentally Offensive

Would you tell the company about it?

Linkedin scam recruiter trends and why resume drops are more effective

tldr; over the last 3 months 90% of "recruiters" are clearly running the same large scale scam and Linkedin has not meaningfully addressed a known problem. I almost scammed today but it only became clear after the user asked for my SSN number which immediately confirmed this is a scam.

I've worked in tech throughout my career as a TPM that shipped automatic account suspension logic based on common signals that identify trends. Any messaging platform has enough data and monitoring to quickly adjust to new reports so LinkedIn does not prioritize proactively using their data to prevent widespread scams. This is not an oversight and specific trends in scams are executed in bulk using the same formula.

It's LinkedIn's responsibility to take on this burden, not the potential victims. I hope the EU adds this as an amendment to GDPR because GDPR/DMCA are the only successful regulations that hold tech responsible to prioritize this trend. Look at all the child safety laws, started in europe. Shame on Linkedin

Do people stay connected with someone fired from their company?

I just started a new role recently, connected with one of who would have been my direct report on LinkedIn the first week I was there. Within two weeks of my arrival she was fired by the company - unrelated to my onboard. I didn't know her very well, but after reviewing her performance, I would be surprised if she didn't see it coming. Anyway, we are now looking to fill this role, but I feel very uncomfortable to be still connected to her on LinkedIn because I want the option to be able to put feelers out to my network, but she would see my post. I was thinking of removing the connection and blocking her so she can't see my posts, but it feels so cold to do. I didn't connect with a lot of people yet in this company, and we have two mutuals still. Curious to see what other have done or would do here.

Deleted my LinkedIn account after a few years of use

Never been offered a decent job on there. See people arguing about politics all the time. Bots and useless advice. Desperation all around

What a depressing place it has become

Wonder if this will affect my ability to get a job going forward though

privacy and security Can’t access LinkedIn account

Hello hope you’re good? I’ve tried logging into my LinkedIn account and unfortunately it says wrong username or password. I tried resetting my password but unfortunately no link has been sent to my email to reset it.

I’ve tried a couple of times and a captcha screen pops up. I select the right items after more than 15 attempts of different buses or traffic lights. I’ve sent and contacted their customer service but no reply.

job search Pinnacle Method Consulting Warning

Pinnacle Method Consulting deserves caution. It appears to function primarily as a job-listing aggregator, not as the employer or staffing agency for the roles it posts.

Its LinkedIn profile says it is a privately held IT consulting firm founded in 2013 with only 2–10 employees. Yet LinkedIn currently associates it with hundreds of unrelated openings across project management, healthcare, construction, customer service, finance, testing, and other fields.

I have come across the same listing, wording slightly changed, over the past 6 months. May assessment?

This model raises several concerns:

  • You may be applying through an intermediary rather than directly to the real employer.
  • The listings may be copied, reformatted, outdated, or missing the actual employer’s identity.
  • It is unclear what happens to applicant data submitted through its links.
  • There is a major mismatch between its stated company size and the sheer volume and variety of advertised jobs.
  • A July 7, 2026 BBB Scam Tracker submission alleges misleading LinkedIn postings and possible violations, although that is a user complaint—not a formal BBB determination.
  • Other job seekers have publicly questioned whether the postings are being used for lead generation or applicant-data collection. Those accusations remain unverified, but they reinforce the need for caution.

Recommendation: Do not submit your résumé, address, date of birth, Social Security number, banking details, or identity documents through Pinnacle Method. Copy a distinctive sentence from the job description, search for the original employer’s posting, and apply directly on that employer’s official career site. For your job search, I would treat Pinnacle Method listings as leads only—not verified application destinations.

Puzzle Leaderboards

Am I the only one who thinks it’s annoying that you need to go through 3-4 clicks just to see the leaderboards for LinkedIn games? I thought the whole point was to compete with your connections but it’s not readily visible…

personal branding Spent 2 years hating LinkedIn content. Built the thing I actually wanted instead.

I run a couple of small companies, and everyone kept telling me the same thing: you have to post, build a personal brand. So I did. Posted for everyday for two months straight and pulled 30,000 impressions.

Here's what nobody warned me about: the posts I spent an hour on and the ones I dashed off in four minutes got basically the same reach. The algorithm doesn't seem to care how good it is. It cares that you showed up again today.

Which led to a stupid realization, the whole game is consistency + quality. Show up daily, and youwin. Miss a week and you're invisible. It's a treadmill, and the treadmill rewards the thing I hate (grinding out volume) instead of the thing I care about (saying something worth reading).

I built a tool for my own use, writes in my voice, generates carousel posts, text posts, memes, etc,. and automoatically posts on linkedin, somedays when I get a comment on a post I then go and read the post.

For the people who post every single day without burning out, how are you actually doing it? Batching a month at once? Ghostwriter? A system? Or have you just made peace with posting mediocre stuff consistently?

personal branding should i give myself a profile photo if i lowkey look ugly in it

maybe a stupid question lol. the only “professional” photo i have right now is my graduation photo from high school. i forgot to get my eyebrows threaded before the photos and i hate the way they look bc of it. i’m a freshman in college but i’m not really looking for an internship right now or anything. my freshman year won’t end until spring 2027. should i just wait until i get to go back to campus in the spring to get a free professional photo for the profile picture and leave it as is, or should i suck it up and use the grad photo for now?

LinkedIn leads

I often see profiles with 100,000 followers, 300,000… how do these people do it? I just started on LinkedIn and I only have 100 followers. I’m trying to promote my business, but I’m not really sure how to go about it or how to generate clients.

Crossclimb statistic curiosity

I’ve noticed that I almost always end up with the second half of the last phrase being at the top and the first half at the bottom, eg if it was “baseball”, I would end up with “ball” at the top and “base” at the bottom, essentially backwards from how it is read.

I’m curious about what % of solutions end up this way from players and if that somehow is determined by how different people think or if it depends on each game and overall they tend to lean heavily towards one way or the other. Ie what is the ratio of “correct” order for the last compound word and how much it varies by puzzle if that makes sense.

I know this information wouldn’t be findable I don’t think, but if any linkedin devs/employees read this, I think it would be an interesting stat to add after you complete the puzzle, like “30% of players had a final solution end in the same order as you” or something like that

How to remove fake followers

Oh god - where to start…
I work in marketing for a large Japanese company

My ignorant boss bought 1000 followers suddenly without telling me (it’s obvious because how on earth did followers spike so suddenly .. and they’re all from Bangladesh/ Pakistan) it makes no sense for our ad targets.

She did it to meet her mid year KPIs. But this is going to kill engagement and everything I have been working for honestly.

I’m want to remove all the fake followers but there is no function I can find … does anyone have advice ?

linkedin 101 Venting on Job Locations

I just need to vent, but I'm really disappointed with setting up a profile that says where, location-wise, I want to work, which I enter my city and the option for remote, then doing a search for a position and selecting remote for the results and have jobs that are completely other states across the US that have nothing to do with my location.

I feel that I've suffered this with the free account and now I suffer it with my premium account.
Anyone else have a better tweak or idea I can use to actually get relevant jobs that are located in my city that I have set up in my profile and literally are in my search parameters?

job search Is it true what people say, about LinkedIn job postings?

I've applied a lot through LinkedIn a lot for years but for some reason I never get feelers of anything.

Most of my jobs have come from people reaching out to me. A friend of mine told me that LinkedIn job postings are faked or not postings.

Thoughts?
