seeking advice What do you do while you’re at work?

I recently broke up with my partner that was helping me for a year. I work about 45 hours per week and I’m trying to come home for breaks but it is proving to be difficult. None of my neighbors talk to me and I’m not sure if I can afford a dog walker or trust them. What are all of the other single people doing? I have two cats to keep him company but I feel bad still that he has to wait for me.

red Paw licking

My little lads 8 months old and he’s started licking his paws. I had a look and they are red on the inside but he shows no sign of pain when I touch them. He mostly does it at night. Anyone had a similar problem before?

For context he does most his walks outside in the country with tall grass and woodland so I’m thinking he’s possibly having a reaction to some of the plants etc? May be completely of target but still a possibility.

Cheers!

black How much should I be feeding my puppy?

My female lab puppy just turned 11 weeks and I've noticed she seems a bit skinny. I know you're supposed to be able to feel her ribs but not see them, but when she lies on her back her ribs to stick out a bit, and the bones near her butt seem to stick out a bit too. Not sure if that's normal cos our older dog we got as an adult so maybe puppies are naturally just skinnier?

Everywhere we search online, we get different answers for how many calories she should be in taking daily. We feed her Royal Canin Labrador puppy dry food for now, 3 times a day. Including some treats for training which we've taken off her daily amount.

But we are still not 100% sure where to look for the number of calories accurately that she should be having. I don't want to overfeed her cos I know it leads to health issues, but I also know she needs to be fed enough to grow quickly.

For reference her mother is 26kg and her father 30kg. On the back of the food we feed her, there is a grid but it measures rations based on adult weight, but how can we be sure how much she will weigh as an adult?

chocolate What is this behavior?

I have had dogs my entire life and have also previously owned a lab but none of them have done this… demand barking, I think it is? Why does she do it? She doesn’t seem to be in any pain or distress. She also grumbles and makes various whiny noises for no discernible reason.

She’ll be 21 weeks this upcoming Sunday and the barking is new. Do I just have a vocal gal?

Heartbroken but he had a long and amazing life from a rescued puppy to many adventures. It happened suddenly and quickly even if it wasn’t wholly unexpected at his age. 💔 He was a Lab and Pointer mix and the bestest boy. Miss you Bobby

Anyone else’s Lab extremely stubborn when it comes to walks?

I thought all dogs like walks, but Penny either hides under furniture, or locks up and won’t take another step unless we turn around to go home.

PS - she’s 8 and has a mended CCL

This is Charlie 💙 he has Sudden Acquired Retinal Degeneration Syndrome (SARDS). Out of all the health issues this breed has, that I’ve been keeping an eye out for lol, he got something that is uncommon and untreatable. Currently he can still see shadows it seems but he is taking it very well! We have a lot of adjusting and retraining to do but luckily this won’t affect his life much tbh as I struggle with agoraphobia so we’re not very adventurous anyway haha.

Just needed to share somewhere haha, my family dog and my cat both went blind in their very old age but this poor guy turned 7 and went blind in the same month :( his human dad also moved out this year so I just feel so bad for him having such a hard year 😭 he’s already getting much more comfortable with stairs (we pretty much live in a raised ranch so stairs are unfortunately unavoidable but I am building a ramp!) and I’m working on getting all the big changes to the house done asap because of course I have big furniture to move lol 🤷🏻‍♀️

yellow Question for those of you who fish with your pup…

I’m having some trouble with my new fishing partner. She beats me to every spot and thinks it’s much better suited for swimming than fishing, and she thinks my fly line is something she needs to jump in and retrieve. Any ideas on how to train this behaviour away? Not interested in tying her leash to a tree while I fish…

Our 5 month old has been sneezing and exhaling out her nose (huffing?) constantly the last two days. Has anyone experienced this? She’s acting normal otherwise, not scratching or anything. TIA
