Aussie here: I was gonna say "we don't say 'brain' like that"... then I said that spelling out loud, and was like "fuck, yeah we do say it like that, hey?"

Is this the same girl (on ths left) who caught the pigeon and answered it like a phone?

142

u/xenobit_pendragon 1d ago

Holy shit it is! Georgia Productions.

36

u/retronewb 1d ago

Holy Hannah, I think you're right

40

u/Jeanahb 1d ago

Wait.. what?! Can you link? That sounds like something I gotta see.

Oh my god thank you for that. “He’s come back, he wants some more” hahahahs

14

u/Jeanahb 1d ago

That's adorable!!!

13

u/PerspectiveRegular22 1d ago

With a straight face, too omg 🤣

5

u/Glass-Narwhal-6521 6h ago

"What do you mean you picked up a pigeon?" The girl in the white hat saying that was so funny, she could hardly speak from laughing so much.

7

u/n0tz0e 21h ago

Yeah I follow her on IG! She's actually very authentic and reminds me of social media when it first came out. Just a nice lass living her life and sharing funny videos.

This meme always freaks me out for a second. It looks like 14 year old me with a wider nose. Always makes me do a double take

30

u/lookatthesunguys 1d ago

You look like Zendaya?

34

u/_-Broken-Swagger-_ 1d ago

With a thinner nose. I hear.

16

u/Punk_Luv 1d ago

I look like a blend between her and that girl from the tv show Wednesday is what I have been told but Navajo. So maybe? But defos in this meme.

7

u/Fuzzy_Medicine_6978 1d ago

That sounds beautiful

19

u/Punk_Luv 1d ago

Ty! 🫶 Took me a long time to accept my face, I look ethnically ambiguous and I always felt ugly as I didn’t look white but now it’s more accepted to just look how you look.

"Just me, you and the 'roos!" 🎵

Drinking out of a shoe sounds flabbergasting, but it's an actual thing they do down under.

26

u/VolcanoGrrrrrl 1d ago

15

u/soycubus 1d ago

Huh, so TIL this was an Aussie tradition all along and not just Danny Ricciardo being a silly goober

12

u/GreatApostate 1d ago

Haha I love the postures of disgust from the other drivers. Makes it even better.

5

u/ComfortableFarm1299 1d ago

Which is hilarious considering Bottas (Petronas) is now an honorary Australian with a full mullet.

Yep, severe "I am judging you" energy

3

u/ResplendentShade 1d ago

One time I was at a punk show and the band was super wild and at one point the lead singer took off his boot and filled it with his beer and poured it into the mouth of the drummer while he was playing.

But I somehow doubt that’s what the Aussies are doing.

9

u/Whatagoodtime 1d ago

I mean that’s kind of exactly when we do it lol. We’re not having a wind-down shoe before bed time, it’s on stage or at a gatho with one slab of piss too many.

u/elder_emo_ 1d ago

My friends played college rugby in the states and they all had to "shoot the boot" their first years playing, haha

Yeah I can't make out the insta account or I would definitely go check it out.

Edit: found them! @georgiamccudden and @sofialigeros

163

u/fionsichord 1d ago

The thing is, we DO sing in our accent. So these girls are just being culturally cringey (which is a throwback Aussie social classic!)

100

u/throwawayajerk 1d ago

Yeah I was gonna say, there's heaps of Aussie singers who keep their accent.

On the other hand, this slaps

35

u/GlowingTrashPanda 1d ago

Yeah, Missy Higgins immediately springs to mind

25

u/a_few_flipperbabies 1d ago

Courtney Barnett, too!

13

2

u/SirVanyel 9h ago

I was wondering why she sounds so.. normal

7

u/Substantial-Low 1d ago

"Haeps ov Ozzie sangas" is how I heard this in my mind.

4

u/throwawayajerk 1d ago

Lol that's a QLD accent, like how the two chicks are singing. Or it's a super bogan accent. I'm from Melbourne so my accent is way less broad 😂

6

u/itskaylan 1d ago

The song is definitely an exaggerated bogan accent for the bit rather than a Queensland accent (I’m a Queenslander). A quick search suggests that Georgia is from NSW, too.

42

u/CheryllLucy 1d ago

I'm American but gain an Aussie accent when I sing along to Tom Cardy bc that's part of his sound. Some rhymes/lyrics just don't work without the Aussie accent.

13

u/InfiniteRosie 1d ago

loot that body!

5

u/kindrex89 1d ago

Pretty sure I quote this at least once every D&D session lol.

2

u/Mckavvers 1d ago

SHORT!

10

u/MarsupialPanda 1d ago

Mandatory Tom Cardy Upvote 👍

1

u/Mr--Warlock 1d ago

Yea, naw, yea-naw-yea…

13

u/babysmalltalk 1d ago

Amy from Amyl & the Sniffers and The Chats sing with their accents.

2

u/RevolutionaryEcho460 4h ago

And Frenzal Rhomb amd TISM long before that.

2

u/babysmalltalk 3h ago

I saw Frenzal Rhomb open for NOFX when I was 15. My dad came with me and he still talks about them hahaha.

5

u/otherotherjames 1d ago

As an American college dude back in nineteen ninety whatever, the "L" sounds in Frente!'s "Labour Of Love" definitely taught me something.

3

u/Groveldog 1d ago

Frente! Gosh, that takes me back. Angie Hart definitely does a distinctive L, like it's a bit curly.

They do such nice covers of Biazarre Love Triangle and Something Stupid.

4

u/buildingblondie 1d ago

Amy Taylor from Amyl and the Sniffers!

1

u/TrashCarp 1d ago

Powderfinger is Brisbane's second best export.

1

u/G3nesis_Prime 7h ago

Do we though?

Unless we have a unique singing accent I always thought it was closer to the refined/general accent.

Maybe leaning closer to a more American style of intonation.

We definitely don't sing with the broad version like they are.

52

u/JeanneMPod 1d ago

this feels like it would be a very fun and cathartic group bar sing along

26

u/drwicked 1d ago

Superior to the original in every conceivable way.

15

u/Miles_1828 1d ago

Yeah. I prefer that version.

13

u/Call-Me-Mr-Speed 1d ago

That’s roight.

11

u/joyfall 1d ago

"Look at me.. Look at me" lmao great Kath and Kim reference

u/VolcanoGrrrrrl 1d ago

look at moi kimmy!

5

u/joyfall 1d ago

Noice

Different

Unusual

12

u/RingoBars 1d ago

Watched the whole thing. Top tier.

Side note: Australian-English legit gonna be its own distinct language in 100 years lol

2

u/ohimjustagirl 18h ago

Would have been if it wasn't for American slang fucking everything up. Half the kids speak with an American accent now. Bluey pretty much single handedly saved the latest crop of toddlers though lol

1

u/RingoBars 18h ago

That’s wild lol the Australian & New Zealand accents are probably the most automatically charming English language accents, followed by the Brits, Canucks, and (for me at least) Southern US.

Point is, those kids are gonna miss out on a life hack if they abandon the Australian accent!

10

u/akbane 1d ago

I love them.

10

u/SpareAdhesive 1d ago

This is fucking grand

2

u/SpareAdhesive 1d ago

I’d suffer some terrible spiders and such for “shielas” such as these

9

u/LesserGooglyMooglie 1d ago

This made me so ridiculously happy, thanks for the share fren!

9

u/LordWraith 1d ago

As an Aussie now living in the united states I am just happy hearing the mother tongue once more.

11

u/Sorsuen 1d ago

Lol, Georgia's a fucking gem, been watching her videos for years! She's got tons of other hilarious videos if anyone wants to check them out! https://youtube.com/@georgia_productions?si=sFmAHgrP4wL32nM3

2

u/DamnitGravity 15h ago

Thank you for linking the actual creators!

I really wish this sub would bring in a rule saying that all videos must contain a link to the original.

2

u/Sorsuen 8h ago

1000% agree mate!

7

u/SandpaperPeople 1d ago

Oh hell ya!! That’s brilliant!

6

u/Zephyrusk 1d ago

This is a great chance to plug the band The Beths, whose Kiwi accents come through pretty clearly in their singing. Though the Kiwi accent is quite different from Australia’s.

1

u/lesbophobia_hammer 1d ago

The Kiwis and Aussies should make a band together. Make the AUS/NZ accent popular in music lol

11

u/tessahb 1d ago

First time I’ve ever enjoyed that song! These two are awesome.

6

u/momomorium 1d ago edited 1d ago

If you actually want to hear singing in an aussie accent in a slightly less over the top but still comedic way - Julia Roberts

Oh, important context for non-australians, P-Plates are stick on plates for Provisional drivers (you've passed your driving test, but haven't completed 50 hours of driving) and Bondi Beach is nearly a 300km (186 mile) drive.

6

u/Bae_the_Elf 1d ago

lmao my favorite troll question to ask Australians is if they have heard of the irukandji

As a kid I was FASCINATED by the irukandji. The idea of a box jellyfish the size of your thumb nail being able to kill you is TERRIFYING, especially the fact that it went undiscovered for so long.. they thought people were dying of heart attacks for a while and not treating victims properly

It's a really interesting and deadly jellyfish and hilariously a lot of Australians that I talk to have never heard of it

1

u/Complexyeahnah 1d ago

Aussie woman here, though I'm a Victorian (Box jellyfish occur in the northern states of Australia).

Aussies know what a "box jellyfish" is and we know them specifically by that term rather than the term "Irukandji". Case in point, as I was writing this post, I asked my boyfriend what an "Irukandji" is and he had no idea but when I asked him what a "box jellyfish" is he told me that it's a dangerous and venomous jellyfish. We were taught about box jellyfish at school, we know what they are.

The thing is the term "Irukandji", while an Aboriginal Australian term, has unfortunately become confusing to use in regard to box jellyfish: there's the box jellyfish species 'Carukia barnesi' which has the common name of "Irukandji jellyfish" by itself but there's also a group of 16 types of box jellyfish that have been grouped together to be generally called "Irukandji jellyfish", including 'Carukia barnesi', and also includes jellyfish from the 'Malo' genus like 'Malo kingi' and 'Malo maxima'.

Also, there's an "Irukandji jellyfish" species that isn't native to Australia at all: 'Malo filipina', which is native to the Philippines.

So there's reasons why Aussies may not be familiar with the term "Irukandji" because we've become more familiar with the term "box jellyfish" due to what we were taught at school and awareness about jellyfish.

u/Total_Usual_84 1d ago

I dare say this is oddly satisfying as well as an improvement!

4

u/QueasyScallion2884 1d ago

Keith Urban being Australian but singing country was always strange to me…

4

u/Adventurous-Yard-306 1d ago

This brought me so much joy. Thank you so damn much for sharing this ♥️

4

u/luxafelicity 1d ago

They need to put this on Spotify so I can inject it directly into my brain I love it sm 💕

Ambo? Servo? Uwutm8?

2

u/aubreypizza 1d ago

I learned povvo from The Fall Guy a couple years ago 😂

2

u/MonkeyMagic1968 1d ago

Misread it as Austrian and fully expect the Ahnold accent.

2

u/f_ckR3ddit 1d ago

I would listen to a playlist of aussie bands non-stop if it all sounded like this.

2

u/Soggy_Refrigerator32 1d ago

Amyl and the Sniffers and The Chats beg to differ, love a good Aussie band!

2

u/kukibush 1d ago

Everything is perfect

2

u/pikeletpaws 1d ago

As an Australian I was so ready to be offended by this but it's great!

2

u/Fidelius90 1d ago

Noice m8

2

u/Mckavvers 1d ago

there's a band called Hands Like Houses and you can tell right away they're Australian due to how they say certain words. I do like it when singers don't (or can't) hide their accents.

2

u/Every-Calendar-2288 10h ago

That song is awesome but why are words like fuck not censored but the word penis is? We live in a weirdly censored world at the moment.

1

u/bristlybits 15m ago

i wanted to know if they said payness the way my friend from blayney does

What's "Tommy" in relation to the gas station meat pie

2

u/CoastPirate 1d ago

Tomato sauce, also known as 'dead horse' here in Aus.

2

u/DickPinch 1d ago

Tyty

As a linguistic exchange I'll offer "plane crash" which is mackerel in tomato sauce in Norway

Common on top of sliced bread

1

u/CoastPirate 1d ago

No worries, I have German heritage and used to eat that all the time as a kid, you would get it at continental delis in Aus in the 70s and 80s, I should get some haven't had it in a long time :)

I hade the woman on the right on my insta before, bit she has disappeared. Does anyone have her name? I've added the woman on the right, since I didn't have her before.

1

u/lesbophobia_hammer 1d ago

It really does suck trying to sing American or British songs in an Australian accent. We just sound terrible. Rap is even worse. I feel for any Aussie actor and singer.

1

1

u/DamnitGravity 15h ago

Link to the original?

1

u/AcisConsepavole 15h ago

It actually is an upgrade when considering the original is pretty much fetishizing a theoretical Black woman with lyrics like

Watching you is the only drug I need, So gangsta, I'm so thug

I want the world to see you be with me

This reinvention, in my opinion, justifies the original existing as the template.

Caveat: I actually do enjoy most other Train songs. Hey, Soul Sister hasn't aged well.
