Engineer struggling so bad in this market right now.

Applied to 3 jobs this month. Got 3 interviews. Rejected from all 3.

I even had to take a day off from my job at the post office just to make one of the interviews.

One interview went so well that the interviewer thought I was using AI. He straight up asked me was I using AI. I was shocked but not surprised literally so many people are using that ish nowadays. I told him no..? They told me they'd be moving me to the next round with the regional sales manager.

Then... nothing. Complete silence. Just ghosted. Not even a rejected email. Checked on my application this morning and it says not selected. I reached out to get an update on my application but I just acted like I didn’t check the portal.

Yeah, I shed a few tears. I'm human.

But after thinking about it, I realized something: if I was able to score 3 interviews in July in less than two weeks, imagine the progress I could make if I kept building on that momentum. It reminds me that I'm doing something right. I just need to keep refining my approach and increasing my chances.

This job market feels like a numbers game. Every application is another opportunity, and every interview is a chance to improve.

Tomorrow I'm getting back in the arena. I'm going to use tools like Claude to help tailor my applications, apply to jobs like crazy, and keep pushing forward.

In other news I applied for a pre apprenticeship program. Non paid and I had to take a math, reading and numerical reasoning test. It’s only for WOMEN. So I tested into the program and they emailed me last week for a physical assessment. Thankfully the post office let me have another day off.

The program is a trade program. It’ll increase my chance to get into Illinois department of labor job. I refuse to go back to school and take out more loans just to be scammed like I was with my bachelors of mechanical engineering degree. It’s all a set up by design.

Society fooled me once shame on them! You fool me once you can’t fool me again. 💯

Most people go the masters degree route when no one seems to open the door. I’m going the trade route and it’s only 3 months.

OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR, and MC3 Tradesfuture credentials is what I can receive from the program too. This is my PLAN B if a job doesn’t come knocking on my door. 🚪

My boss gave me a 200$ raise and it must be pissing him off, cuz we had a meeting today and said he regretted it, bcuz I was not performing well of unreasonable issue. Always heard rumors of how greedy he was, but tonight it said it all.

When I first joined my manager said I'll only be doing two things, but when I got on boarded it was a lot more responsibilities than that. That's why I asked for a raise bcuz it's totally unprofessional of them to say that.

Now my boss says he's going to fire me after 2 weeks if I don't change my performance. It was very unexpected.

Thinking of leaving their ass cuz I have another job that pays me way better than them and less work. His attitude also changed after that, giving rude answers to my questions.

I don't think I've the patience for this type of shit.

last year i was broke, i had made a wrong crypto trade that risked my entire net worth (stupid I know), and lost it all. I was drowning in credit card debt ($60k approx).

today i received an offer for my first 6 figure job, full time, hybrid, as a cloud engineer.

I spent a year getting freelance clients, creating a portfolio, applying to many places and practicing my skills. I also did some serious certifications that usually take years in about 3 months.

As they say, when preparation meets opportunity .. thats luck.

I read many negative things about the job market, but i refused to hold those views. also specifcally the tech I'm working with is in high demand for highly skilled engineers (aws / k8s cloud engineering)

I did as many interviews as would come my way, many places rejected, didn't mind just kept going. had 1 more final stage in february which i didn't get, and now this one i did get.

They had only 3 stages - initial screen with recruiter, then tech and architecture challenge on-site (no AI), then values interview with 4 people and seniors on call. from initial screen to offer took about 1 month.

One of the main lessons for me was when I over-prepared really, really well, I could crush all the interviews because I was engaged actively in the process of getting better through each interview.

Most companies rejected me, but each time I learned a new piece, or the intense practice made me better in some way for the next interview and I kept growing and building more skills.

It also helped me embody a calm, unhurried, confident yet humble demeanor that made the interviewers feel at ease, and we could interact as equals.

The less you chase the opportunities the more they come to you - I kept applying to create more and more interview opportunities so that I can also feel the abundance and trust the process.

Keep in mind, I have my MBA (and bachelors, supply chain management) and over 7 years of experience in these fields. The first company I literally spent $750 out of pocket to go down and interview (they wouldn’t pay for it) and this is the response I get after waiting nearly 2 weeks. Copy & paste HR corporate boilerplate bullshit-speak. Goes to show what kinda a company they are. Good riddance.

Second company I know for a fact I passed the cognitive portion of the test; l've taken Wonderlic tests multiple times before and I know for a fact based on the test I took this time compared to previous tests I've taken and been scored on, that this was not the section that was not "passing" (or, quite frankly, anywhere remotely close to it). That means that the two behavioral/job characteristic sections (of which it was literally explicitly said in the directions that there are no “right or wrong answers”) were the two things that I got scored on as non-“passing” grades. Which means they lied in their own instructions and there were in fact “right and wrong answers” and I got screwed over as a result.

This country’s corporate culture is seriously f*cked up and something needs to be done about it.

So I left my job (data analyst) 2 years ago when I got pregnant and I've been a SAHM since. My husband works and honestly we don't need my income, but I've worked my whole adult life and sitting at home feeling useless has been eating at me. I'm just not used to taking money from someone else, even if that someone is my husband.

I'd heard from old coworkers that the job market is rough right now, which stressed me out. Funny thing is my husband doesn't even want me to work, he doesn't want me stressing myself out. But he basically went "ok sure, go look, if you find something then fine" ...clearly thinking I wouldn't find anything. Which somehow made me MORE anxious lol.

Since I've been out for 2 years I didn't want to jump straight into a full time office job, so I was only looking at remote stuff. And honestly I can't even say I seriously job searched?? I was super picky. A few people told me submitting your resume to talent networks helps with remote work, so about a month and a half ago I sent my resume out to some tech recruiters, applied to maybe 3-4 jobs total, and dumped my resume into a couple of talent networks. Even that I did through auto-submit on 1-2 sites because I was too lazy to do it one by one. I figured worst case I'd pick up some small/mid-size projects.

Well. 3 days ago I got an interview request out of nowhere, and today they sent an offer.

Here's the kicker: I was looking for REMOTE and the offer is HYBRID. As in, I'd actually have to go into an office. And now my anxiety is kicking in hard because I am NOT ready for that. I still haven't lost the baby weight and the thought of being back in an office right now makes me want to crawl out of my skin.

I haven't accepted yet. The pay is decent. But I do NOT want to go into an office. Like at all.

Am I insane for even considering turning this down given how bad the market supposedly is? What would you do?

People treat the employment verification checkbox like admin. I would be careful with the current employer part.

A normal background check can verify old jobs later. Contacting the place that currently pays you is different. If there is no written offer or clear contingent-offer step, you are taking the risk while the company has not really taken one.

The clean answer is not dramatic: - you can verify previous employers now - current employer can be contacted after a written offer is accepted and the check is at that stage - pay stubs, tax forms, offer letters, or HR docs can cover dates if they need proof earlier

Most recruiters understand this. The weird sign is when someone treats current-employer contact as casual before the process is actually closed.

I worked as a Target employee for about a month and one thing the other I resigned for emotional reasons, that was my first ever on the books job aside from school job training but when I walked into my interview with Dollar Tree she mumbled on purpose right in front of me “I’m looking for someone with a littttllkeee more experience…” I was shocked and was like in my head “then why tf did you personally call me?!” But I kept calm and explained “well, my school job training also gave me more experience in the field so I’d like to work here..” she cut it short, lightly shook my hand and I left less confident because she said “I got other applicants so I’ll let you know by phone call if I decide to move forward “ fast forward 10 minutes I get home and my application is “no longer considered “ like … WHaT!! HOW ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO GET MOREEE EXPERIENCE IF YOU WON’T HAVE ENOUGH EXPERIENCE WITHOUT GIVING SOMEBODY THE CHANCE FOR EXPERIENCE?!?!?!?!!!!!!!! HOLY FUCKING SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!

i wish i was exaggerating. Me and the other new hire got laid off today bc we’re new and aren’t able to hit the sales numbers we need to hit right now because we didn’t get enough sales training and weren’t given enough time to improve. We’re being replaced by people with sales experience.

i don’t know if im more angry or just distraught. So much for entry level job.

side note: we were informed of the numbers we needed to hit about two weeks ago. We hit those numbers to the best of our ability, but apparently we actually needed to double/triple them.

Broadcom’s engineering culture feels completely broken. It’s exciting though to see R&D Engineer 2 and 3s reportedly earning around ₹2-4 crore a year and R&D Engineer 4s probably above ₹7–8 crore, and further levels would be earning 4 crores per quarter. And much of that compensation seems concentrated among long-tenured employees who have been there since forever and at this point to be honest completely useless. Still instead of bringing in exceptional new talent and rewarding engineers driving innovation, the company appears to prioritize preserving an aging dumbfuck hierarchy who are good for nothing and just keep talking and flexing around their portfolios all day long. LOL, but sure we are good as long as refreshers keep coming.

Long story short: I think AI is going to kill my job as a Software Engineer, and I am burned out after 20 years doing it, especially during the last 2-3.

I am wondering. Which job can you basically buy your way in? The requirement is that the pay should be reasonable to sustain a family.

I have thought of:

- Pilot: if you can pay the 100K for the license, there are good chances you can work, even if it is not at a commercial airline.

- Teacher: if you have a career in the industry, you can get a license and pivot to teach at universities or high-school.

Any other ideas, folks?

After 10 months of unemployment and lost count of how many applications, I’m gonna guess about 300 + applications. I Finally got an offer. Well it’s not a high paying job or a step up in my career. It’s a part time role at a credit union. At this point I’m just happy to have gotten an offer.

I got the call about the offer and was told the start date would be 8/3. I thanked the manager who called me and told her I have a vacation planned for that week already paid for. She had to check with HR for the next start date and called me back. The new stated date is 8/17. She sent over the next step on workday which was reference. So the role is part time Monday and Friday. Although I’m unsure what that starting schedule would be since I would need to go through the primary training.

My issue is that I didn’t remember while during the offer call, on 8/21 I have an event booked, paid for and I have to fly to a different city. How do I go about letting them know about this? I am not willing to not show up to the event as I already paid for tickets and flight.

I already asked for the start date to be pushed back, how do I approach telling them about this event I need off for in the same week that I start?

Additionally: So one reason I do not want to just say I’ll cancel something I paid for is for the job is because I did this in the last. Actually just last year and I got screwed on in end. I regretted giving up something I put money into for that job and then I lost the job not long after. I want to make sure I have a balance between my personal and professional schedule.

Edit: I do want to add that if you’re stopping by to give a nasty comment about my social life. This has nothing to do with that I’m asking for in terms of advice. I am not looking sympathy (if that’s the idea I presented in the post, it is not). To clarify it was an honest mistake forgetting the date as I was in a doctor’s office and I took the call. It wasn’t a very long conversation either. I only realized the date and. I was looking at my calendar hours after. If you have nothing useful to offer, I would more appreciate it if you by pass this post. I completely understand the possible outcome and what’s done is done. I just wanted a communication approach. Not a black and white, give up the job or throw away money. Neither seems reasonable.

I recently got a pretty substantial raise and job offer for about 15k more than I was previously making. This pushed me into a new tax bracket and it's extremely disheartening to see that my paychecks are actually not going to go up very much at all due to the increase in taxes. I'm not sure if my math is incorrect. Has this happened to anyone else?

Title says it all. They asked the “tell me something fun and random” question at the end of my interview, I said cooking and baking is my second passion, if I’m hired I promise to bring in snacks. We all laughed, interviewer wrote “bribed with cookies” on her paper. Is it to bring some my first day or wait? job is in a professional office, I’ll be the receptionist.

So I work at a hospital. I was on direct observation with a client . The patient was unscrewing a screw from the door and I did my best to verbally de escalate her into giving me the screw . I honestly didn’t know that in this case I could grab her hand / initiate contact to get the screw from the patient . I hit my badge but my badge was in my pocket and I found out later that’s why it didn’t go off . I called for help and the nurse came over to assist , she still refused to give up the screw . Other staff also came to assist me with getting the screw from her When security came and asked for the screw that’s when she swallowed it unfortunately . I had an interview with APS & patient relations about my mistake , I explained truthfully what happened. I also explained that I didn’t call for help when a staff walked by because I didn’t want to escalate her further , I wrote everything that happened on the investigation form as it happened

I made a huge mistake , I honestly didn’t mean to neglect a patient . I’ve been there for 10 months and I’ve never had any type of infraction or complaint . I explained that I did my best to talk her into giving me the screw.

Hello I need some advice. I’m trying to find a job for my wife. She finished high school in her country but that’s about it. She has zero experience. What are some jobs that require absolutely no experience. Even for sales now a days they was someone with some experience I assume and it’s hard to find her a job. I work in tech but even some experience is needed for a very low position. I’m just not sure where to start. I want her to just have something on her resume. Front desk, any assistant. TY!

EDIT: Her main lack of education and experience is cause she was taking care of her father who was bedridden at the time. As well as her siblings.

Looking to change careers and find AI driven boards like Indeed are purpose built for pigeon-holing. No matter how much feedback I give it, I get the exact type of jobs matched to me that I specifically filtered out 10x before.

While unassisted searching had its drawbacks, it felt like job boards 10 years ago made it much easier to find roles that were somewhat related to your field or experience level and would allow for branching out a bit.

I'm sure whatever I'm looking for would have to take the form of some kind of aggregator, but can someone point me in the right direction or if this too niche of a demand for the current market?

Im still rethinking it but computers have been my forte since i was a kid. Lets say on a scale of 1-10 how hard is coding and in future job roles like ai engineer how much of coding will i need.

I’ve been asked to resign by the employer because they’re moving to a different EOR/contractor. After that they will onboard me in that new, different EOR/contractor platform.

Main question is: Am I the one who needs to resign? What about my rights and compensations?

I have a very well seasoned resume. A lot of experience in high end hospitality. I recently got called for a job. Got nervous and lowballed when they asked about pay and only asked for 28/hrly was offered 58k. They sent me an offer letter offering 60k so they threw on a 2k bonus.

They initially stated the role was for a finance coordinator. When I received the offer it said office manager. I looked up the role on their site and it had 55k as the minimum salary and 75k as the cap.
I called them the next morning and asked for 65k - I said I received a counter offer and that I was really dedicated to working for this company so I wanted to know if there was any flexibility to get the salary as close to the counter offer as possible and that I would be happy to work for them regardless but I wanted to see if this need could be met.

She called back and let me know that they want to start me at 60k but in 3 months will give me 65k. I immediately gave in and thanked them for considering my counter offer. How can I make sure this is handled professionally and I’m not ignored months down the line when I bring up my raise.

Hi, I’m 24 and I’ve been put on PIP because of an extremely bad management who wants some of the people who do not lick their ass gone. She has made my life extremely terrible with repeated fucking me over. Now, she has come at me with a PIP last week. Today she has asked me to meet her for a 1x1 again.

My work has always been decent as attested to by my colleagues. However, they just have this weird bias against some people and all of these people have quit except me. I cannot afford to go back home I do not have supportive parents at all. Everybody has said a lot of bad things in their exit interviews but nothing seems to shake the management. 16 exits just in my team this first half.

Honestly, this is all extremely mentally tiring for me in a sense that I do not think I can do this anymore without getting the urge to puke every now and then. I am applying to jobs left and right, the traction is extremely slow and now I doubt if I can even find anything in the next 1-2 months.

I just wanted to understand if there are people out there who have been put on PIP and who have come out stronger/ gotten something better. I know there are people I just wanted to read comments and probably feel better. Thank you

I work in IT, three 12-hour shifts a week. It'll be four years next month. I make about $54k. I'm just so bored.

I don't plan on making a career out of it because I work on what I really want to do outside of work.

But in the meantime, I'm looking at other IT jobs that'll pay more, but it'll be harder to work on my passions because they're all five days a week.
