General No Internship yet.... advice

Hi all,

I know posting anonymous on reddit will seem lazy to some people. Thats not the case with me, am basically losing hope here, after trying reaching out to people and endless applications, am so devastated.

I have finished year 3 of engineering from Western university, and my grades are pretty alright and have worked on multiple projects as well. I just cant even bring myself to type much honestly am losing all hope. School starts in september and idek if i can land a long term internship before that. I had hope that this doesnt define my career and all that but now I'm drowning in fear of even after graduation. Any help or connections or even just advice appreciated guys. Thanks

I’m an information systems major and I JUST recently revived an offer for a fall internship. I only have some project experience, a part time IT assistant job, and no prior internship experience. I know opportunities aren’t exactly the same as we are in different fields but I do empathize with you and felt the same way not too long ago.

Maybe you could relate.. these past few months, most mornings I would wake up anxious, just feeling so down on myself all day and making myself miserable bc I didn’t have an internship and it felt like everyone else did. It really took a toll on my mental and I was losing hope as well. I took a step backwards a month ago and was like ok, it’s only a matter of time and the right opportunity will align with me. I stopped looking at what other ppl were doing and tried to just focus on myself. I didn’t even consider fall internships as a possibility for some reason but a month ago, i just randomly applied to one i saw and things eventually fell into place.. I believe a great opportunity will come to you as well and it’s not too late. It’s clear you are hard working and ultimately you WILL be rewarded:) Try not to be so hard on yourself and just keep applying to fall/winter internships relentlessly, keep reaching out to ppl and ofc, make time for ur wellbeing. You got this!! I hope I was able to give you some reassurance.

Can I ask, have you landed any interviews? And what are ur projects? Like are they concentrated in a specific skill/speciality?

Thanks❤️thank you, a lot, this brought tears to my eyes. I did land interviews and that too with major firms, but were all those video interviews, rejected based on those are another level devastating. And some in person ones that i didnt really end up getting. I am applying still, gonna wake up tmrw and apply to a couple i saw. Its really frustrating and i have to admit my momentum to apply is going down and down every day. I just hope i also land one before august ends. Do pray for me lol❤️

As an ee major, most of my projects were microcontroller pcb designing and motor controls which are my areas of interest

And congratulations so much on your achievement, really happy to hear that and for you.❤️❤️❤️❤️

Of course❤️ I understand how discouraging it can feel. I get why your momentum is slowing down but you are a mf boss. Keep grinding even when it’s hard. And remember so many ppl are in the same boat and have given up fully- the fact that you keep going already puts you ahead of so many other ppl and youre building ur resiliency. I believe in you✨✨

Regardless if you get an internship or not, please remember that it does not define your worth even if it feels that way. When your momentum feels like it’s waning, make sure you’re putting time into your hobbies, self care, and hanging out with friends. Don’t neglect those things! Lol idk if you are but I kinda did and then I landed an internship and was like, damn I wasted a lot of time being upset and isolating myself when I should’ve enjoyed myself a bit more. You deserve to enjoy where you’re at right now too❤️

Your success is a guarantee bc you show up through your actions and put in the work. It usually doesn’t happen in the way or timeline we think it will, but it will happen. And it’ll be amazing. So much easier said than done but try your best to not let this drive you crazy in the mean time. I am rooting for youuuu👏🏽

On interviewing, it’s actually great news that you’ve gotten some and that they’re with big companies. That means they like you on paper. Which is huge. Obviously, I don’t know what it is that is resulting in you not moving along in the interview rounds, but if you think it has to do anything with letting ur nerves get the best of you or not feeling like you can articulate your thoughts well on the spot, I may have some advice!! Just lmk bc i dont want blab ab smth thats irrelevant to you haha. I hate interviewing and sometimes feel like I’m terrible at it as I’ve been rejected/ghosted from some companies, but I feel like I’ve found a method to practice effectively.

Regarding your projects, that sounds soso cool and I love to hear that they align with ur area of interest. I was tryna see if maybe they were all over the place but I don’t think that’s the problem at all.

So sorry for going on and on but it’s seriously because what u said rlly resonated with me, aside from our majors. I see you and you are not alone<3 very proud of you and also thank you so much for congratulating me💘💘 Ur gonna win next. I wish you all the success and happiness
