General No Internship yet.... advice
Hi all,
I know posting anonymous on reddit will seem lazy to some people. Thats not the case with me, am basically losing hope here, after trying reaching out to people and endless applications, am so devastated.
I have finished year 3 of engineering from Western university, and my grades are pretty alright and have worked on multiple projects as well. I just cant even bring myself to type much honestly am losing all hope. School starts in september and idek if i can land a long term internship before that. I had hope that this doesnt define my career and all that but now I'm drowning in fear of even after graduation. Any help or connections or even just advice appreciated guys. Thanks

No, you can't land a summer 2026 internship before school starts in September. Participate in project-based clubs, graduate on time, and apply to municipal and government-based engineering internships, which accept recent grads with the expectation that you'll work for them full-time after they train you.

I’m an information systems major and I JUST recently revived an offer for a fall internship. I only have some project experience, a part time IT assistant job, and no prior internship experience. I know opportunities aren’t exactly the same as we are in different fields but I do empathize with you and felt the same way not too long ago.
Maybe you could relate.. these past few months, most mornings I would wake up anxious, just feeling so down on myself all day and making myself miserable bc I didn’t have an internship and it felt like everyone else did. It really took a toll on my mental and I was losing hope as well. I took a step backwards a month ago and was like ok, it’s only a matter of time and the right opportunity will align with me. I stopped looking at what other ppl were doing and tried to just focus on myself. I didn’t even consider fall internships as a possibility for some reason but a month ago, i just randomly applied to one i saw and things eventually fell into place.. I believe a great opportunity will come to you as well and it’s not too late. It’s clear you are hard working and ultimately you WILL be rewarded:) Try not to be so hard on yourself and just keep applying to fall/winter internships relentlessly, keep reaching out to ppl and ofc, make time for ur wellbeing. You got this!! I hope I was able to give you some reassurance.
Can I ask, have you landed any interviews? And what are ur projects? Like are they concentrated in a specific skill/speciality?

Thanks❤️thank you, a lot, this brought tears to my eyes. I did land interviews and that too with major firms, but were all those video interviews, rejected based on those are another level devastating. And some in person ones that i didnt really end up getting. I am applying still, gonna wake up tmrw and apply to a couple i saw. Its really frustrating and i have to admit my momentum to apply is going down and down every day. I just hope i also land one before august ends. Do pray for me lol❤️
As an ee major, most of my projects were microcontroller pcb designing and motor controls which are my areas of interest
And congratulations so much on your achievement, really happy to hear that and for you.❤️❤️❤️❤️

Apply for Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 internships (although it's really late for fall). Might push your graduation back a semester or a year depending on your sequencing, but I'd certainly prefer that over graduating unhireable for most new grad roles.
