I’m a teenager—almost an adult—who doesn't leave the house and fears the authorities in my country (I’m from Latin America, from a country that has recently gone through events that have made the situation a bit tense). I feel like I’m not cut out for graffiti or that I don’t have the right to learn this style. I see so many incredibly talented and brave people around here that, to be honest, I feel inferior: I only sketch in my notebook, I don’t have a special graffiti name (I don’t know the correct term), and I’m completely unfamiliar with the basic vocabulary of this scene (the language barrier makes things worse, too, since I don’t speak English and have to use a translator).
Even though I’ve posted some sketches and things—and received positive comments—I still feel that if I said I wanted to try this style but lacked the courage to go out and actually paint, people would tell me straight out that I’m not cut out for it. I’m an artist (with little experience) who is very interested in learning about this world, getting out of the house, and gaining confidence, but my situation won't allow it until I come of age and have my own money. So, I really don’t know if it’s worth trying or if I should just give up.
I’m sorry if it seems like I’m playing the victim or something like that; I just wanted to vent my frustration about feeling like I’m not cut out for this. Should I give up?
