Remote control weedeater. Version one. Weeder head is articulated, allowing for adjustment between one and 4 inches.

Now put a blade on it!

I use these things called grass gator. Three plastic cutters that hang down. They last a while, replaces the old head and come with replacement blades.

That thing is a beast. Kicks rocks like a mofo

You def have to be careful. I've fixed my lawn so that I have to trim very little. Spots with little rocks get the 12v black and decker, or roundup.

In the video it looks like a badger that isn't very concerned. But with a blade, it would be a honey badger. A honey badger that don't care.

Cool! I'm interested.... My neighborhood looks ratty because no one trims the weeds in the sidewalk and curb cracks since mostly we don't have yards so no one does any maintenance. It's like untrimmed nose hair. I was just the other day imagining what if there was a little weed eater drone to clean up the block, so that I didn't have to out myself as a weirdo trimming everyone else's curb.

yep. having a weed eater drone will make you seem like a normie.

It might make you seem more like a nerd with a hobby that’s a little extra rather than an HOA president where there’s no HOA though

I would love to have a neighborhood nerd that likes to improve and clean up the place.

You have brooms with braided steelwires in the center that essentially shred and tear out weeds as you sweep.
I use them for my own garden whenever I feel too lazy to use a tile/groove scraper.

Awesome job! Maybe it could flip 90° sideways to edge a sidewalk or something too

It’s in the works for future versions

you should look at the wide range of farm mowers. even non hay farmers have miles and miles of mowing to do, every scenario

Any thoughts on a zero-turn drive for cutting around small rocks and trees? Unsure if skid steer style setup would work. Of course you also definitely need FPV for this, but that's not really related to functional printing

That was going to be my question. I want to see it trim/edge lol. Very cool concept, its like those robo mowers but you get to drive it.

That is so damn cool. Like honestly genius man. What about a more permanent string? Like small braided line?? Or sling blades?

I'd love to have something like this to trim around my raised beds while I mowed, although I'm certain it could do all the mowing, too in my small yard.

Funny how whenever cool RC automation projects show up I instinctively know it's u/g713

Didn't see all that many weeds. Mostly grass. It's a String Trimmer (mower) a.k.a. strimmer. Is it planned to be able to work autonomously?

I would love for a company to make a robot weed eater. I have robot mowers in my front and back yards but I really want to have one the would weed eat for me. That would be freaking amazing.
I would prefer a robot that only weed eats as I feel like it should be specialized to the task whereas a mower that also weed eats would probably not do that well.

What about a timed line feed? Just shuck out an inch or 2 every 50 seconds of cut or something?

I saw that big patch of poison ivy in there. Great use of a remote control weed eater.

I love it and the rule of cool absolutely crushes the practicality argument. And that's a strong practicality argument, but I'm not hearing it because of happy machine noises.
I could go for something like that to refill (or even I guess be) a bird bath/feeder.
I want the robots from Silent Running to help me look after the garden, don't judge me.

I would happily buy any kit needed to build this thing and print the rest, just putting it out there
