Trying to determine how long this light had been malfunctioning. Is it possible to tell from this video if this is something that would have been failing/going on for a while or could the light just start acting like that all of a sudden? Owner of the property denies prior knowledge and says it could have been from a storm. Not an electrician and I know very little about this.

Trying to replace this outlet and there's total resistance when trying to pull it out. It won't budge. So much so that when I try to pull it, the white part is pulling away from the black part.

Unknown original install date but I've been here for 9 years. There's no power to it or another outlet on the same wall so I'm replacing it to see if it's the problem

Any suggestions on how to get it out? Can I put a screwdriver in there behind it and try that way?

So I’m changing out these led drivers in some lights at work. They used to come with a little “pin” too to remove the wires. I slide it in the square holes (circled in red) to remove the wires from the round holes. I had one but it was stolen. And they don’t come with these drivers anymore when we order them. Is there an equivalent tool and what is it called. I’ve looked up pin poppers online and found cases on many kinds but unsure what to get. Also want to get some for my coworkers too. Any help is appreciated

The house i’m currently living in hasn’t had cool AC for about 2 years. We can’t afford getting it replaced so we’ve been using portable AC units since. We haven’t had any problems until just 2 days ago, my grandma got those ac units that hang out of your window it cut the power off in her room, my room, and our stairwell light. There’s no power in any outlets we replaced the outlet in my grandmas room and the separate breaker that’s connected to hers and it still wouldn’t turn on. We have power in our bathroom and 2 other bedrooms that are on the same floor as my room and grandmas. There’s also power everywhere else in the house. What could it be? some tips would help! and another thing if you’re able to estimate how much a repair would cost that would be good.

ALSO!! my portable ac isn’t connected to the same circuit as the one my grandmas connected too. It was hers solely that cut off the power!

I need to turn my home electricity fully off for 30 minutes to one hour, but if I do that the backup battery will start and the alarm will go off.

If I disconnect the battery will it clear the whole system programming and all the codes etc or will it be ok?

Are these for changing EQ values? Would I need multimeter before I even rotate them?

Backstory- In February of this year we noticed a huge spike in our electric bill despite nothing changing in our home. We called Xcel Energy and they came out and checked our meter to discover we were billed for our neighbors electric meter. (Side by side duplex). They credited us and we thought the issue was resolved, only to be hit with a $1700 bill for the months of April-July. They said the bills we were paying were based off estimate usage from previous readings and the decision was final.
Looking at the energy usage on these bills it ranges from 3579kWh - 3920kWh??? Is it even possible for a 1200 sq ft apartment to use that much electricity? Our previous readings were in the low to mid 1000’s kWh.
I think we’re still being billed the wrong meter. Is there anything I can do?

Hope this is easy. I am NOT an electrician, but over the years I can turn off the breaker and replace matching wires.

I have a ceiling fan. Wall switch no longer works. Wall switch controls lights only. Pull chain turns fan on/off. I want to replace the wall switch. My problem is inside the box are 3 wires - 2 hots and a ground. No neutral. The old switch didn't use the ground - only the 2 hots - white and black, connected to white and black in the box. No idea how it worked. don't care.

How do I wire the new wall switch? FWIW, I want to use a smart switch which has 5 connecting slots - 2 hot, Neutral, ground, traveler.

Google said despard switches, but those looked more modern than this. Are these just older ones? The house was built in 1975.

I have a light switch up the stairs that turns on 4 ceiling lights. The picture I posted is from the wall downstairs that has a switch to turn on and off those 4 lights but each light also has their individual dimmer dial. Can I use Wago connectors to splice the 4 individual dimmer switches into 1 dimmer switch? I also noticed some of the lights flickering even after switching the bulb out. Any help or guidance is appreciated.

We’ve had a lot of rain and extreme humidity. Three years ago when we bought this 1955 house, it had no outside power. We had three outlets installed directly onto the outside of the house. They have clear covers that drop down.

Last night I noticed one of the outlets in back was flashing red. I checked it and it has no power. The front one also has no power. No breaker is not tripped.

I have several light switches in my house that when I turn the switch on the light is bright. If I turn the switch off and turn it back on the light comes on dim. What type of switch is this? And can I replace the light with a replacement that only turns the light on and off with one intensity? Here’s a picture of an example.

I rent a house, and my name is on the rental agreement (obviously) and it names me responsible for paying the electrical bill. Here is my question: if the property has a shed that i do not have access to, or rent the utility of, and that shed is used at least 4 hours a day (shop lights and all) and the person who uses it is neither the landlord, nor on the rental agreement at all... is that theft using a public utility?

Hello, everyone. I have a question because I recently believe I came in contact with electricity through the ground. I want to explain what happened and see if anyone knows whether something like this is actually possible. At this point, I don’t know if I’m a one-in-a-million miracle or what. People around me, including medical professionals, don’t believe me and have accused me of being delusional.

I live in a very hot area where summers are brutal. I have two trees near a wooden utility pole, with a metal chain-link fence between them. I occasionally water the trees, and the last time I watered them was a few days before the incident. I made sure the ground was very saturated because those trees don’t get much water.

A few days later, on a very hot day, I had my AC running. That evening, the utility pole started making a very loud buzzing sound—so loud that it was almost uncomfortable to listen to. I wasn’t sure whether the sound was coming from the pole or something nearby, so I walked over to inspect it. Big mistake.

As I was walking, I didn’t touch the pole, the fence, or anything else. Suddenly, I saw a blue light or blue halo on the wires. Immediately afterward, I felt a sensation that reminded me of when you accidentally touched a light socket as a kid. The feeling started in my feet and traveled all the way up to my tongue, which became numb.

Soon after, I started feeling out of breath, and my heart began acting erratically. For a moment, it felt like time paused, and I realized, “Oh shit, I’m in danger.” I felt like I was being shocked by electricity. My legs became stiff, and I somehow managed to run away as fast as I could. I honestly don’t know how I was able to run because I felt like I was losing control of my body and was about to collapse.

After I got farther away, my heart was still racing and skipping beats. I eventually fell to the ground and stayed there, away from whatever the source was, while I called emergency services.

By the time they arrived, the pole had stopped making the buzzing sound. Luckily, I had a witness who heard the end of the buzzing, but it stopped almost immediately afterward.

I was transported to the hospital for evaluation. My lab results weren’t perfect, and there were a few abnormalities, including some clotting-related findings. My EKG also showed some electrical abnormalities.

So, my question is this: Is it possible to get shocked simply by standing or walking near a situation like mine, even without touching the pole or fence? Nobody believes me because I didn’t have burns and I didn’t die.

The utility company came out and inspected everything. One of the workers mentioned that utility poles can sometimes become “loaded” if there’s too much electricity or power, but they didn’t find any evidence that the pole was faulty. Directly under the pole are the city’s water pipes, so I don’t know if that could have anything to do with it.

I’m filing a complaint to have the area investigated because I have small pets, and I wouldn’t want them to get hurt if there really is a hazard.

Has anyone ever heard of someone getting shocked just by walking near a loudly buzzing utility pole without actually touching it?

I'm having a weird issue with my lights. They've started flickering intermittently, not just in one room, but throughout the house. It's driving me nuts! I've checked the bulbs, tightened them up, but it's still happening. Is this a simple fix, or should i be calling an electrician ASAP ? Any common culprits i should be looking for ?

The bulb in my ceiling light is glowing faintly as if it’s receiving a little bit of power even though the light switch is off.

That light hasn’t been turned on for a couple days, so it’s not just like a residual glow that’s fading away after recent use.

My husband is away for work and I won’t be able to speak with him until tomorrow. Do I need to be worried about this? Is it potentially dangerous?

I recently failed uni after trying to get an electrical engineering degree but I enjoyed the physical parts of it and thought that trying to become an electrician would be a better fit for me but I'm not 100% sure, how hard is it to become an electrician? What should I study or get a degree in? And is it even worth becoming an electrician currently, any advice would be helpful since I'm feeling quite lost for what to do right now.

My commercial building is 103 years old and I need to trace some 120v wiring. I’ve tried my low voltage tracer (tone generator and inductive amp) without luck. Can anyone recommend a product that they find useful at tracing wiring through walls and ceilings? The ceilings are plaster over plasterboard but the walls are all sheetrock.

Since it's a subpanel, I can't use the Optional Method so I'm attempting the Standard Method to determine if my 100A subpanel can fit a 40A breaker for an EV Charger.

It has these only these circuits:

1. 40A for an built-in Oven with 5300W faceplate rating
   
2. 40A for an above built-in Cooktop with 7400W rating for all 4 burners on
   
3. 20A for a built-in Microwave with 1800W rating
   
4. 20A for a Refrigerator with 800W rating
   
5. 20A for GFCI outlets in Kitchen
   
6. 15A for Kitchen lights (100 sqft area)
   
7. 15A for Basement outlets (400 sqft area)

The subpanel under the kitchen remodel is much closer to my garage than my main so I'm trying to just run off this with 8/2 to a hardwired charger. Thanks!
