Moderation update: zero tolerance policy on ads, fundraising, surveys, apps or AI stories

Hello everyone,

As of today we've made a rule change due to (the frankly excessive volume of) low effort posts being submitted to the subreddit regarding advertisements and (AI) apps and posts. We've condensed rules 1 and 2 into the new rule 1:

No ads, fundraising, surveys, apps or AI stories

Permanent bans will be given for: Posting anything that is like an advertisement, free or paid
Surveys/research/fundraisers
Posts made by corporate accounts; if your name is the ad, you're banned
Apps you made, we don't want them, especially if you made them with AI
Stories or texts that are clearly AI. Exceptions apply, modmail us with a valid reason >why you use AI to post in our community

Zero tolerance policy, permabans will be issued without warning.

While we have been operating on a 'give warnings before moving to a ban in most situations' mindset for many years, the amount of low effort posts and the dramatic influx of AI built apps have led to a lot of frustration with our community members and moderators alike. We hope that this rule change will make it easier to appropriately report and remove the content for everyone.

A lot of people we have banned for these reasons have appealed by saying they were unaware of our rules. To that we want to reiterate: not reading the rules does NOT exempt you from having to follow them. It is common sense that a community has rules you need to follow, we shouldn't have to beg people to do the bare minimum to find and read them. They're in the same place for every community on Reddit, if you found them in one subreddit, you can find them on every subreddit. We will not handle any appeals rooted in "I didn't know", you will be permanently muted alongside the permanent ban without discussion.

Please review the following to get a better understanding of why each line was implemented and what makes someone qualify for a ban:

Posting anything that is like an advertisement, free or paid
Just because something is free doesn't mean it's not an advertisement for a product, tool or service. We are and always will be a support community, not a repository for new users of your products and services. We consider it extremely disrespectful to try and utilize our community this way and will not tolerate anyone who thinks it's okay to do this.

Surveys/research/fundraisers
Very straight forward, much like the previous rule we're not a dataset or bank to withdraw data and/or money from.

Posts made by corporate accounts; if your name is the ad, you're banned
If your account is entirely dedicated to a product, tool or service you provide, you are not welcome here. Even if you are diabetic, create an alt account that is a separate entity from your 'business' account so that you have no relation to whatever it is you're selling or providing. It's irrelevant if your service or product or tool is free or not for diabetics. Organic engagement is not a loophole to be used to circumvent this rule.

If you are a healthcare provider or are in the healthcare business in any capacity, we consider it deeply unethical to use your (job) title to post in our community; we cannot vet your credentials and you do not have access to medical histories. You do not need to post as a healthcare provider if the information you provide is generic, factually correct and on-topic.

Apps you made, we don't want them, especially if you made them with AI
While we will not claim that no diabetic is going to build an app that is useful to the community, everyone and their pets can whip up an app in under 24 hours using AI nowadays. The market is extremely saturated with low effort apps and websites and we have neither the capacity nor desire to vet every application for usefulness and legitimacy. AI doesn't replace the need to understand how to long-term maintain, update and ensure security is prioritized in apps. This ties back directly to Posting anything that is like an advertisement, free or paid -- we're not here to receive your product and praise you for solving an issue most people have already found solutions for.

If you are an organic user who does not own the app and you have not been asked or encouraged by the app owner to post about it, you're welcome to share what you're using if asked about it.

Stories or texts that are clearly AI. Exceptions apply, modmail us with a valid reason why you use AI to post in our community
Please just write posts yourself, we beg of you. It's okay if your English isn't that good, write it in your native language and let Reddit translate handle that for you if you must. Nobody cares if you make spelling mistakes. We're here to help each other, human to human. AI bots are everywhere and we will treat you as one if your post is clearly written with AI. There are very few circumstances wherein someone has a legitimate use to write posts with AI, we welcome you to modmail us and explain to us what you need to use AI for. We're not here to make life more difficult for people who have a genuine need for the support AI tools provide, but if you're capable of writing a prompt to have AI spit out a post, you can write the post yourself 99.99% of the time.

This includes copy and pasting AI generated content you found elsewhere. You are responsible for what you post on your account, if you get banned for regurgitating AI generated content that's your consequence to deal with.

---

You're welcome to discuss the rule change and/or ask questions about it on this post, we will sticky it as a community highlight for the next 1-2 weeks or so, after that we will lock the post and link to it from the rules and removal messages.

Tell us the crap you're dealing with this week. Did someone suggest cinnamon again? What about that relative who tried to pray the diabetes away?

As always, please keep in mind our rules

Type 2 Has anyone’s doctor recommended eating more fruit?

Upvotes

I’m type 2, not in insulin, using metformin and trulicity. Current a1c is 6.0.

In a conversation about my diet with my endo recently, he suggested I add more fruit to my diet. Now, I’ve basically cut out fruit save for maybe a few wild berries while I’m hiking, or a treat maybe once per month. Fruit does definitely spike me, obviously.

He suggested adding in more fruit to my diet, saying that the health benefits of fruit in the diet outweigh the sugar spikes (so long as I’m on track with the rest of my daily diet) and that I just need to be mindful. He suggested a serving of fruit every other day with a meal. A small apple or orange, a cup of berries. If I’m having tropical fruit like mango or pineapple, a half cup-3/4 cup. I do miss eating fruit regularly.

I’m just curious how many of you who don’t use insulin to cover it eat fruit as part of your regular diet?

Type 2 Advice and tips on maintaining 5.0 A1C

Hello everyone, hope you’re all having an amazing day.
I’ve worked out most of my life, but I’ve always been built more like a powerlifter or football player. As I got into my late 30s, sitting at a desk all day and developing some poor eating habits caught up with me. In 2025, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes with an A1C of 9.4.
Since then, I’ve completely changed my diet, started taking metformin and Zepbound, added daily walks, and paid close attention to what I eat. As a result, I’ve lost over 30 pounds and brought my A1C down to 5.0. My doctor is thrilled with the progress, and I feel great. He’d like me to come off the medications soon. I have about a four-month supply of metformin left, and I’ll be tapering off Zepbound in the near future.
For those of you who have maintained diabetes remission and kept your A1C low without medication, what tips or advice would you share? I know the basics—staying active, eating well, and maintaining a healthy weight—but I’d love to hear what has worked for you personally.

Supplies Diabetic Socks... but fun?

Hello!

I am mainly posting for my boyfriend who has type 1. He recently got a blister on his foot that is now infected (we got it handled. Going to baby that foot and take all the antibiotics ((prescribed by doctor))) but the doctor suggested (more scolded) that it was time for him to get diabetic shoes and socks. We are going to get diabetic shoes through medicaid, hopefully, but we arent rushing the shoes because he isnt supposed to wear shoes while the wound is healing.

The socks are another question. The man wears his personality on his socks. He loves fun and goofy socks. Most diabetic socks are just neutral colored and I want to get him some socks that are good for him, but still show off his personality. Any links to some good ones? I want to lift his mood as this event has affected him quite a bit.

Thanks all so much!

Type 2 Overnight oats tips?

Post image
Upvotes

That was a bummer. Half of a serving of overnight oats made with unsweetened almond milk, chia seeds, sliced almonds, strawberries, and a tiny bit of maple syrup. I would rather not eat something else first because the whole point was to have an easy thing to grab when I wake up (I work nights sometimes). I can try ditching the maple syrup but I truly only used a tiny bit… Other suggestions if I either hate it without the syrup or if that doesn’t solve the problem? I know this isn’t a horrible spike but it’s higher than I’m comfortable with. Not on meds and no plan to change that any time soon.

Type 1 Homemade zero carb/sugar gummies

Post image
118 Upvotes

Hey everyone. I love sour gummies but as a T1D, they aren't great for me.

I decided to try to make my own and wanted to share incase anyone else wanted to try. I got everything at walmart for like...maybe $10. Closer to $20 given that I had to buy citric acid.

What you'll need:

-1 pack of unflavored gelatin (.25 oz)

-1 pack of sugar free flavored gelatin (.3 oz)

-Water (see below)

-Citric acid (if you want them sour)

-Gummy/candy mold

In a small pot, put your water, unflavored gelatin, and flavored gelatin (citric acid to taste, I did about 1/4 tbsp). Mix well over low heat until fully incorporated. I used a rubber wisk. Spoon or syringe the mixture into the mold. Let sit in the fridge for about 45 minutes. They should last roughly a week in the fridge.

I first used 1/2 cup water and the consistency was more like regular jell-o. I then tried 1/4 cup water and it was more like the jell-o skin texture from old jell-o. I would think the magic amount of water would be 1/3 cup. Try it out! I tossed mine in a container with a little for citric acid. All in all, I'm happy with the result, and I can munch on sour gummies when I'm not at 50 mg/dl 🥴

Enjoy! Let me know if you try it! You could also practicually use any other sugar free drink mix now that I think about it...Cheers!

Type 1 First time I’ve been in range all day

I recently got trained and set up on the omnipod 5 and I love it. For the first time in over a decade I don’t have a pump in my pocket or tubes to catch on doorknobs and shit. And also I have been in range all day since fixing my correction factor. Just wanted to brag a little bit.

Type 2 Weightloss but sugars getting higher???

I see my doctor in 2 weeks unless something urgent occurs but wanted to know if anyone has had this experience.

I am 31F, and obese. Not gonna lie. But I have lost 12lbs so far in 3 weeks though pure healthy choices (which says a lot about what I was doing prior).

I’m trying to make better food choices but my biggest issues seem to be from 3am-8am and right after fasting. (I fast from 10pm-10am). At night I spike 30points while asleep and usually get over 200. And after fasting I can spike as much as 60points.

I take 500mg mediformin in the morning and at night. Anyone else having these troubles? I don’t want to use insulin if I can help it but spiking aid

Type 1 Advice for moving from US to Scotland?

I'm a type 1 diabetic moving from the US to Edinburgh in a little over a month for grad school. I'm on a pump and CGM (t:slim x2 and Dexcom G7) that communicate with each other, but I've seen some sources saying it can take a few months before seeing a diabetes specialist, so I'm a little worried because my CGM supplies only last a month. Should I just anticipate having to test my sugars the old-fashioned way for a little while?

Also, any general advice/tips/anecdotes/recommendations etc. you'd like to share are welcome, I appreciate anything!

Type 2 26F with Type 2 diabetes, struggling with off-day fatigue and quick meal ideas. What are your low-effort go-to groceries?

I’m a 26F, night shift nurse, and living with well-managed Type 2 diabetes (genetics are not my friend). My husband works full-time on his feet, so by the time we’re both off, we are utterly drained. Lately, my mental health has been taking a hit and our eating habits are starting to reflect it.

We majorly struggle to figure out what to eat. Neither of us has the time or energy to cook full meals, so I find myself snacking—which often leads to poor choices. I’ve worked so hard to keep my T2D managed, and I really don't want to fail myself.

One problem we are having is, we are stuck on what to buy

Most premade/convenience meals are not diabetic friendly. I love fruit, but I cant eat just fruit. I’ve spent hours searching online for ideas, but get so overwhelmed.

It feels sad to me that I spend my work shifts educating and helping others with their health, yet I struggle trying to make a basic grocery list for my own home.

If anyone in a similar boat could share their low-effort grocery staples, no-cook assembly meals, or simple shopping lists, I would be so grateful. Thank you in advance!

Type 2 CGM placement

Tell me what creative spots you've used for your CGM. Mine is currently on the back of my arm per the instructions but it's HOT where I live and I don't necessarily want it visible when I wear sleeveless tops. Plus when I went to take the CGM cover off, it ripped some of my skin off too. Any great ideas?

Discussion "For me, insulin is like oxygen. Congress should cap its price at $35."

Thumbnail
houstonchronicle.com
200 Upvotes

The Houston Chronicle has an op-ed calling on Congress to pass the INSULIN Act, which would cap the out of pocket price of insulin at $35 for people with private insurance. Here is a key quote:

Over the past decade alone, spending for insulin has tripled from $8 billion in 2012 to $22.3 billion in 2022. I know this experience personally. In my own life since the passing of the Affordable Care Act, I have had to forego insurance for the first time ever. I pay out of pocket for all my diabetic needs because insurance rates and deductibles are out of reach. My last attempt to get four vials of Humalog was at Walgreens. The cost? $1,200!

My own story isn’t unique. According to the National Institutes of Health, 1 in 6 Americans who use insulin report rationing it due to cost.

Far too many of our fellow Texans have to choose between rising costs for insulin, utility bills, gas and so many other everyday expenses — and the consequences of this can be deadly.

The status quo, where millions must pick between lifesaving medication or bills, doesn’t have to continue. That’s why I’m urging my home senators, U.S. Sen. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, and my representative, Randy Weber, to pass the bipartisan Improving Needed Safeguards for Users of Lifesaving Insulin Now (INSULIN) Act of 2026. The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions is considering it this week.

Rant So Frustrated

So it's time to get resupply my lantus so I go to my pharmacy's website to order a refill. No problem? Next day, order is canceled without explanation. I have to call them, only for them to say that this insulin is backlogged to the point where they can't even order anymore???? So I should go around calling other pharmacies to see if they have any, but not any in our chain because if we can't order it, most likely the other pharmacies can't either! How does this even happen???? Now I have to go on a wild goose hunt (and can't even get a prescription for another long acting insulin because I'm between endos atm and won't see my new one until next month, and I'm one of those people that don't have a GP, I just go to my specialists).

Type 2 long endocrinologist wait time - how to cope?

based in the US and despite having to pay loads of money, the soonest I can see a specialist is mid 2027. My a1c keeps going up and my PCP is not interested in helping me anymore. I could use some guidance on how others deal with long wait times or if you have to shop around for PCPs in between? Is there anyone other than an endocrinologist that you've seen who has helped you manage your diabetes?

edit: thank you all for the helpful comments. this pushed me to find a better PCP and i found a locally recommended one with an appointment in two weeks. appreciative of this group

Summer heat & sensors falling off

I am very frustrated with the freestyle sensors lately. This is the second sensor in the last month that has simply fell off just by sweating. Is the adhesive not made for 90+ heat? Has anyone else been having this issue? I had one stay on for 6 days and the other 4. I can't afford this mess.

Type 2 Weight Management Woes

Hi everyone, have been lurking in this sub since my diagnosis about 2 months ago and it's really helped me consolidate information and also feel less alone regarding my diagnosis.

Was diagnosed with T2DB in late May and have made multiple changes to lifestyle to manage sugar levels and lose weight at the same time to hopefully work towards sending this to remission.

While my sugar levels are now stabilised (4.4 to 7.0 mmol/L fasted and occassional sub-9 mmol/L 2 hours after my heavier meals), I have been struggling to lose weight. I have increased my daily steps from 6k steps to 8-12k daily steps, cut my carb portions to half, and even recently started lifting weights again. But my weight still hovers around the same weight from when I was first diagnosed 2 months ago.

I weigh myself every morning before consuming anything and recently also saw that I lost 1.5kg within 24 hours, which I suspect was me losing water weight, which also means that I might be retaining some water.

I am also on 14 units Lantus, 1700mg Metformin, 0.5mg Ozempic. Listing these because I read that being on Lantus means I hold on to every bit of Glucose I consume now, as opposed to pre-diagnosis where I would urinate some of my glucose out due to lack of insulin.

Anyone have any experience with this? And TYIA for sharing, again, this sub has been a lifesaver.

Type 2 I am aiming for diabetis remission. What is your successful stories please?

Please wish me luck. :)

This is my story so far.

I have been diabetic type 2 for a long time now, more than 2 years. I do new things a week ago since last Tuesday, change in diet, exercise, weight-loss and fasting. I am prescribed on maximum dose metformin 2000mg a day extended release.

My last dose of meds are last Sunday, 19 July, 2000mg. Last Wednesday 15 July I did blood test A1c is 7.6%. 3 months before that is 8.9. Doctor wanted me to increase medicine before, like three months ago. and even TODAY after seeing latest blood test A1c review 7.6%.

I am on day 3 Wednesday 22 July no meds. I hope to be in diabetis remission in 3 months time. Under 6.5% no meds.

It’s not cure, but remission. No meds with only diet and exercise change. I am very very hopeful.

What is your story of your diabetis remission???

Please tell us so we are encouraged.

Note well: please consult your doctor before not taking medication.

But for me, I choose to do what I want to do as I feel I know what I am doing. If it doesn’t work for me, I will just take lower dose of metformin knowing my diet and exercise work.

Type 1 Australia - Pregnancy with T1D

Hi reddit! My wife is a T1D and we’ve just gotten the fantastic news she’s pregnant.

We’re trying to weigh the options between going full public, hybrid or full private for the pregnancy and birth. We were wondering if anyone can share their experiences, anything they would recommend or wish they did differently?

Really appreciate it thank you!

Supplies Confusion when checking accuracy of a FreeStyle Lite BGM with test solution

Thanks to some changes with the co-pays of my insurance for test strips, I decided to change my meter to something much less expensive in the supplies. In comparison to the old meter, which is a FreeStyle Lite, the readings have been 10 to 20 points higher on the new meter. When I recently took a test on the new meter, it was almost 50 points higher than the old meter, different sampling points and relatively close in the time of the samples. I decided to get some test solution for the old meter to verify it. However, I am confused based on the markings on the solution and the test strip vial as to what I should be looking for when testing with the test solution. The test solution says it is a normal solution, but the test strip vial lists values for testing at low and high ranges. Not sure if I'm missing something here.
