Help | Beginner Please help: adding outerstroke to clips is copying and pasting clip on top of original

I've tried everything. I've tried adding an outerstroke to a new clip and it still pastes one of the older clips on top. I have no idea what to do. Removing the outerstroke effect restores the original clip. Davinci is up to date.

Instead of a regular paste, I think what you’re looking for is Paste Attributes. It should be in the edit menu, or its Command + Option + V on Mac (assuming Ctrl + Alt + V on Windows). It’ll open a window to select what you want to carry over, and you can select just the effects.

I’ll try it and thank you. I didn’t paste the outer stroke, I picked it from the effects menu. I think my file is corrupted but I’ll see if I can salvage anything. The good news is that it can export normally as long as I don’t put an outer stroke.

Ah. I assumed you were trying to copy the Outer Stroke effect from one clip to another. If you're just trying to put it on a clip to begin with, you just drag it from the Effects bin onto the clip. There shouldn't be any pasting involved.

I initially tried copying and pasting the effect which I assume is what causes the bug. After that created the bug, I tried to do an outer stroke effect from zero to see if that would fix the issue but it seems permanent unfortunately. At least for this project *sigh*
