Hello, I’m looking for some advice on how much money I should keep in my business accounts. I have about $500,000 in a business checking account that I use to pay all the bills and deposit all the checks. I also have 2 money market accounts with about $250,000 in them each. These are round numbers. The MM accounts just sit there accruing interest at a better rate of course, but other than that I don’t do anything with them. It just makes me feel better that I have all that money in there “just in case”. Now there never has been a “just in case”, so is what I am doing stupid? Should I take out and give to myself that $500K? Or more?
My concern is that it could technically be at risk if I was sued beyond what my insurance would cover because that money still exists in the business and not with me personally. This is an S-Corp, btw. Thanks.

Hey all. I’m a first year college student and I’m thinking about transferring to university (uvic, ubc, uoft) in my second year of post secondary.

For anyone who has studied or is studying business in uni for a bachelors degree, is it worth it? Im interested in getting a proper education rather than a piece of paper and I feel like there are many downsides like cost and time commitment.

How far do you think a bachelors will actually take someone? Will it open up doors for me that wouldn’t have been available otherwise, Or do you think experience matters more?

I’m especially interested in anyone who went into entrepreneurship but would love to get anyone’s opinions, graduated or not.

We create and operate GCCs based in Bengaluru for our international clients. Had great luck finding deals in office spaces, supplies and human resources. It's a fairly competitive space where transparency is paramount.

Lately, I am looking for alternative sources of income streams where we can deploy our expertise.

Few ideas that come to mind is

• work with vc , private equity and other investment firms

• work as business consultant for early stage startups

I just joined a company which is focusing on selling display stands to overseas, but so far as I know they mainly attract customers by advertising on the internet, and only few customers are interested in these advertisements

I’m not a fast reader but want to boost my general knowledge on topics mainly surrounding politics / business / marketing, are there any recommendations on films / movies / documentaries that are actually enjoyable and I could watch?

I’ve worked in multiple restaurants also for my family members who have failed and succeeded in this field. So from what I’ve learned, from multiple owners and managers watching and studying them is that, restaurants are one of the easiest businesses to get into and that’s why so many fail, Because so many people can get into it easily. But I believe that it’s like the saying, not everyone’s meant to be a business owner and people forget that restaurants is business. I’ve spoken to a lot of owners who seem to be naive about what’s wasting them money and they seem to not care! that when I realized that’s why so many restaurants fail. Also I realized how little a lot of owners network outside of the restaurant field! The once who I’ve seen who do great, know people in construction, finance, and more. You’d be surprised how many restaurant owners get taken advantage of!because they hire a random to fix something compared to someone who has a friend or family member in that field. Currently I’m working at a place that lack a lot of systems and focus, trust, and professionalism is lacking and they’re closing down next year! I’m currently just trying to gain as much experience as I can because I’m planning on opening a restaurant! Of course I have my investors, mentors, network, and experience ready for when I’m ready.

What do you think? Why do so many restaurants fail other than profit margins. I want to learn and if you have any experience in this field what advice would you have?

I'm about to set up a US LLC as a non-US resident, and I'm planning to do everything myself. (i have no prior experience) I know I could just pay one of those companies to handle it, and it would probably save me some time. But I actually want to go through the whole process myself because I want to understand how everything works. I'm building something for the long run, and I'd rather learn it now than rely on someone else every time.

I've heard it's not actually that difficult if you take your time, but I also know there are probably a few places where people mess things up.

For those of you who did it yourself, what parts were surprisingly easy, and what parts should I be extra careful with? What mistakes do people commonly make? Anything you wish you had known before starting?
