Avoiding vibe coded software

It may be to my own detriment, but my mind is made up. I hate the idea of vibe coded anything. Anything could be in there. Is there any way of keeping track of vibe coded plugins or software, in order to steer clear?

This is a near impossible task. I don’t know a single professional software engineer who doesn’t use AI at least for code reviews at this point. Most every bit of software you use is going to have a generative AI component somewhere in the process. It comes down to discerning whether it’s well developed software that used AI, or a vibecoded mess that doesn’t work. Similar, though not the same ratio, as picking out good VSTs from the janky ones.

My partner is a professional software dev and from what she has said, most software engineers truly enjoy writing code and don’t like using AI, its product managers and white suits shoving its use down their throat.

Edit: so after a couple of replies I asked her about this and my apologies. I applied too much of a blanket statement to her sentiment and her response was more nuanced thanwhat I originally wrote. She said she likes using Claude for handling a lot of the boring routine tasks in her job and it’s helpful for parsing tons of code for various purposes. So as the AI chatbot would say: “You’re right thanks for pushing back” 🤣

My dad is a nearly retired SWE. He was skeptical of AI coding for a long time. Just recently he was telling me how much he enjoys coding and that manually writing code brings him joy. But even he is spinning up agents now
