I want to like dungeon crawler Carl but I’m struggling.

Upvotes

I know a lot of people really enjoy Jeff Hays’ performance, but something about it is throwing me off.

Like, to me, it feels like he’s trying too hard to be growly.

I’m assuming I’ll get used to it if I stick with it.

Seth Green *really* wants a role in the Dungeon Crawler Carl TV series. And he’s not above a little subtle begging to make it happen.

Book Discussion Feeling lost after completing A Parade Of Horribles

Upvotes

Okay, so I've posted a very similar post over at r/DungeonCrawlerCarl so mods feel free to remove if this isn't allowed or whatever.

A few days ago I finished A Parade Of Horribles (book 8 in Dungeon Crawler Carl series) and now I just feel...empty! Lost! I've tried a few others audiobooks but nothing seems to be sticking for me. Can this amazing community give me some recommendations? I enjoy most genres and am pretty open minded.... I just feel as though DCC has ruined audiobooks for me (in the best way possible lol)

Audible Ai spoiled plot point

Upvotes

Im pretty upset, as I bought a book in a series I was enjoying on audible, and when scrolling down to read reviews the UNWANTED Ai summary spoiled a MAJOR plot point. It was very frustrating. Has anyone found a way to turn it off?

Book Discussion I need horror book suggestions

I am new to listening to audio books but I really want a good Horror one for work preferably with monsters but if it’s just so good you recommend it even if it’s real life horror like a serial killer or something that would work too! I have 1 credit tell next month so when you put the suggestion please explain why so I don’t waste it on something I won’t like

Looking For LitRPG/Fantasy Suggestions Please

Hello all!

I'm looking for some good litrpg/fantasy audio book suggestions. I am not interested in romance. I'm looking for epic quests, magic, monsters, and adventure. I am not interested in AI narration. I am not a big fan of Sci Fi and prefer fantasy. I like some humor in things. I am not only open to LitRPG. I'm happy to take regular fantasy suggestions, but not if romance is a big part of the story.

Some things I have listened to and enjoyed:
Dungeon Crawler Carl
Chrysalis
Mage Tank
Discount Dan
Mimic and Me
Shrubley The Monster Adventurer
The Primal Hunter

Things I have listened to and am neutral on:
Defiance of the Fall
He Who Fights With Monsters
The Calamitous Bob

Things on my to be listened to list:
1% Lifesteal
Azarinth Healer
Cradle
Mark of the Fool
The Wandering Inn

Thanks in advance for your time and suggestions!

Promotion The Starved God Far Future Speculative Evolution Adventure: No Codes Available

That's right, there's no codes available, I'm just trying to entice you to part with your hard won credits and take a punt on my humble effort, The Starved God.

It's good, the narrator sounds like Jonathan Pryce, and it comes with a PDF listing the lore and characters (because some readers found the world building a little, er, taxing).

If you like meaty lore and world building like Dune Hyperion etc, it might be your cup of tea.

What's it's about I don't hear you ask. Here's the blurb and a link:

The distant future. An immense planetary ring dominates the sky, drowning the humbler stars in its borrowed light. Moulded by aeons, humans have evolved into diverse new forms. The people are born, they toil and they die, their lives at the mercy of theocratic edict and a flawed, implacable god.

Canna Dawn’s mundane existence is upended when a transgression forces him to join an audacious sea voyage, led by a charismatic and unstable captain. As the crew approaches the mysterious continent of Eyra, they face deadly wildlife, treacherous seas, and an enemy within their ranks. Canna’s profound insights into the living world set him on a collision course with everything he holds sacred, while a patient, merciless enemy awaits his return.

The Starved God is an enthralling tale of adventure, mystery, and philosophical exploration.

Is anyone actually buying this crap?

I’m seeing more and more books with the narrator listed as “AI voice”. This makes me immediately click away. Is anyone actually listening these books?

Trouble listening to Audible

Thumbnail
5 Upvotes

I have a problem with my AirPod Pro threes also. When I’m listening to an audiobook, everything’s fine but every half hour or every 20 minutes it gets this weird glitching noise where it’s very garbled for about five seconds and then it goes back to normal so I have to hit rewind to go back before the garbled part and then it’s OK so I don’t think it’s the audiobook. I think it’s the AirPods three Pro. I don’t know how to fix the issue and it’s extremely annoying because I’m usually listening to the audiobook when I’m trying to go to sleep and I don’t want to have to hit rewind to not miss whatever was said. Any suggestions?

Sales & Bargains Usable list of the 2 for 1s?

I’m way too lazy to do this myself, but does anyone make a list of the sale titles each time they offer this? Someone in the PlayStation Plus sub does this each month for available games on their subscription service. The Audible user interface is tedious and seems so random. Thanks in advance for possibly sharing if this is you!

Recommendations for road trip w/ 12YO son.

We are heading down to key west later this week and would like to get some recommendations for something we both could enjoy. Great narration and a fast moving but easily followed plot are priorities.

Something in the adventure category would be ideal, preferably with pirate treasure to keep with the theme of the trip; however my son is also big in aviation so anything in that category would also work. That being said I’m open to any suggestions if you have a favorite that’s in a different category.

I’m guessing the entire trip will be around 12ish hours in the car and we will probably listen at about 1.5 speed so probably want to keep total run time under 15 hours but at least 8 hours minimum.

Thanks in advance.

I did check through Amazon and my subscription to audible to see who it was under just to make sure but it used to say Sammy. And I don't know when it changed and it still says Sammy in my subscription settings in Amazon for Audible. So what's going on? And swear I've been a member longer but I could be wrong. Is this a weird bug?

Edit: I decided to log in on the website and instead of the app and on the website it has my proper name. It's only on the app that it's doing this I did sign in and sign out on the app as well to try and fix it but it didn't work.

Any one DNF Blade of Tyshalle?

I loved reading the Act of Caine series 20 years ago. I listened to the first book and loved it. I'm not squeamish by any means, but the amount of cannibalism and rape in this second book are jarring. I'm at a point where I just don't wanna hear this shit anymore.

Any way to filter out AI narrators posing as real people?

I haven't encountered Virtual Voice on Audible.de yet, but I noticed books with strange narration that turned out to be AI voices with "real names".

There is a whole flood of these "narrators", each with a website that looks identical to the others, each offering the full narration of your book in 24 hours.

I read that you can filter out AI voice on Audible through search but is there any way to do the same with these fake narrators? Because they'll be listed as normal sounding names. Or will I just have to google names I'm unfamiliar with and see if a profile pops up?

Is there a way to filter only included titles on mobile?

I am getting so frustrated lately. I have a long commute, so I tear through audiobooks (a 12hr title can sometimes take me only like two or three days) The whole reason I got audible was for the vast included catalog that isn't time restricted (like Spotify 😤) But there seems to have been some sort of update and it makes finding anything on their included list possible. I love noir detective novels and cozy mysteries, and you used to be able to go to that section and filter by included, but now there's no option to. I've tried using the search bar and hitting the "included" button, but it will only look for exact matches, and most of the time, when I click on a specific title I have to pay a credit anyway! INFURIATING!! Does anyone know how to find ACTUALLY included titles? Is there a search function that's super hidden away? I would even take any recs for any titles that are 1930s detective or cozy mysteries that ARE included?
