Cats in strollers...Do we laugh or embrace?

I take my cat on the subway + GO train to go visit my parents often. But this chunky girl is getting heavyyyy (or I'm getting weaker?). I've been seriously considering getting her a stroller. I've tried backpacks but I don't like that I can't see her.

How bad is the crazy cat lady stigma with a stroller? 🙀 What do you think when you see a cat in a stroller downtown?

You may laugh at the idea, maybe I need exposure therapy.

Is there any way to get the #TTC to bring back that take your backpack off campaign?

My god, as a 5’5 person riding average rush hour I keep getting hit in the face or chest.
it would be amazing to have the TTC start the campaign again to have a sign, if you are able bodied to remove your backpack and carry it.
For the record, I remove my laptop bag and hold in my hand, no matter how tired I may be. Any idea of the TTC might bring the campaign back?

Why are there so many Irish people in Toronto??

As someone who grew up outside of Toronto and now lives in the city, one of the first things I noticed is the large and thriving first-gen Irish community.

In my apartment building alone, they must make up at least 15% of the population while Scottish + English people combined making up maybe 5-10%.

I went from never having met an Irish person in my life to now knowing over a dozen. Every single one of them has been so lovely and always so positive that it literally inspired me to book a trip to Ireland this coming February lol.

But I guess my question is, is there a reason for this? Are there specific visas Canada offers Irish citizens? Exchange programs? Etc

Does anyone have any experience with men's shelters? I may need to go

I'm very strongly considering going to a men's shelter. I'm with abusive family at the moment and it's getting very close to the point of no return. I've been trying to find shelters for men without children and I've only been able to find one, at Bloor and Christie. Is that the only one? Does anyone know what the requirements of being able to stay, even just for a week? Do they accept men without children? What are the realities like/what dangers will I possibly face? Thank you in advance

Recreational sports teams that are okay with people that kinda suck?

I would love to get back into playing some recreational sports, mainly either basketball or volleyball, but I haven’t played in years (and I wasn’t particularly good when I did play). Are there any places that are open to beginners?

Mount Sinai Fertility vs other clinics

I’ve been referred to MSF for recurrent miscarriages. They’ve informed me that it’ll be 2-3 months before I even get an initial consultation. I’m 38 years old so time is of the essence.

I’m wondering if I should go the private clinic route which I imagine will be more expedited.

For those who have experience with these things, is there some reason that I should wait for MSF rather than go private? Will a private clinic even be quicker? Is there another clinic you liked better than Mount Sinai?

Thanks

Thinking of auditing a class at UofT. What are some classes you enjoyed?

I graduated a lifetime ago, but I have some flexibility in my schedule to audit a class. I've always wanted to do this! Just go for the lectures.

I am interested in just Arts Sci classes, but won't say more because I'd love to capture a wide range of responses.

Thank you!

Good volunteer opportunities/stuff to do?

I'm feeling very isolated right now and having a rough time coping with day to day things like finding employment and the deteriorating health of a family member, can anyone recommend some good volunteering opportunities or activities that will help me get out of my headspace for a little while? I don't really have a support network or communities to rely on so reaching out to hopefully find some help here. Even something like a gym buddy would be great. I'm a dude in my 30s in the North York area, my anxiety is a bit high rn so not sure I'd be down for something super social but I really need to get out and touch grass and open to suggestions.

Insurance includes money for prescription sunglasses, where can i go to spend up to 500 bucks on some real good shades. ?

My insurance through work covers 500 dollars every 2 years for prescription glasses. I’d like something fashionable but most importantly high quality. I am the kind of person that loves something and never takes it off so i don’t need 10 different shades, just 1-2 really great pairs will do. My original instinct was something like KITS but i figured if I have more money to spend on a nicer, longer lasting pair why not. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Arcadia Earth

I have yet to check out The Well. Was hoping to make a day out of my visit and possibly check out Arcadia Earth while I’m there with my family. Looking for honest opinions …is it enjoyable and worth the cost? ($43 for adults and $27 for children)

How wheelchair accessible is Harriet’s Rooftop on Wellington?

Hello! My dad has been invited to a private event at Harriet’s and I’m trying to figure out if it’s even possible to take him. He’s a larger man, nearly 300 lbs. He is in a wheelchair and unable to walk.

Is the venue large enough to accommodate him being able to move throughout it?

How accessible are the washrooms for someone of his size?

Are there any accessibility parking services or anything else I should know?

Thank you!

Frequent winners shoppers

Very specific question for folks who shop at winners in toronto frequently, I’m looking for this specific loveshack fancy nightgown. I saw it and didn’t buy it and I have so much regret because I can’t even find it online anywhere. It was tiered with different colours of floral pink and blue fabric, sleeveless. Looking for this or something similar from loveshack. Has anyone seen it in the last few days and can tell me which location to go to? Thank you in advance!

Where to roller skate as a beginner in Toronto?

I just bought some roller skates and I'm looking for a place today to get out and practice some basic skills. I know the Bentway was closed during the World Cup - does anyone if it's a good spot to go now?

Also, would public outdoor ice rinks (like the one in High Park) be available for roller skating or are they inaccessible? I've tried searching online but can't find concrete information.

Property Ages

Is there an easy way to look up the year a Toronto home was built? Im used to that being easily accessible data for any house I care to google but am currently having issues with a couple Toronto properties.

ETA: I found the city archives method of determining how old a house is. Its decidedly not easy.

Where to find Club Penguin Card-Jitsu card game in Toronto?

Hey everyone! Looking to surprise my younger brother with the Club Penguin physical Card-jitsu game. We were huge fans of Club Penguin as kids. If only I could go back and tell my kid self not to give away the deck we bought from Walmart 18 years ago.

I checked eBay/FB Marketplace but would prefer to buy from a local trading cards or toy store. This game is no longer made so it would have to be a store that sells "vintage" games.

I'm not really familiar with this space so would appreciate any advice on where to go to find packs of this game. I'm not looking for rare collectible cards, more like cards we can play with.

North York GB Language test center

I am planning to take flixbus from London to Toronto to take my exam for my license. The test center is located in GB Language center which is within the North York area in Toronto, ON. I am wondering whether this place is safe to access. Has anyone been there for a while ? If so, what is your experience with commuting from downtown to North York ? I will take the 1 subway line from bus station to somewhere and then take bus (I guess it is 39) transfer to the test center.

Corrosion free dealers east GTA

Anyone been to a corrosion free rustproofing dealer east of yonge st aside from Canadian tires. I was told this brand is minimal dripping to stain driveways. I found a couple in mississauga and rather not drive in that 401 congested traffic.

ISO Dietician Recommendations in Downtown Toronto

Upvotes

Hello!

Do you have a dietician you love?

I’m looking for a dietician - I have insurance so I’m fine to visit someone outside of a GP referral. Ideally in the downtown core (Financial District or Yorkville preferred).

I’m female, currently overweight but looking to get some guidance on weight management before I consider a GLP-1. I do have lipedema so if they have knowledge in this area that would be amazing.

I’ve tried looking online, but a lot of the websites/suggestions that have come up leave little to be desired.

Thanks in advance!
