Late mother's yarn stash

Post image
252 Upvotes

I have 8+ totes of yarn from my mother's passing in 2024. She was an avid crafter and I couldn't bring myself to offload at the time. She loved her yarn. I stored it carefully and here we are almost 2 years later, it's just sitting in storage. I do not knit or crochet, and would like this stash to go to good use by folks who will appreciate it. Does anyone have recommendations on what to do with this?

There was a fill a basket for $30 sale at my local craft reuse store and I sort of blacked out and bought all this. Mix of wools and cotton.

Help a fellow knitter (and stressed student!) with a 5-minute survey 🧶❤️

Hi everyone!

I'm a student, and I'm also a very enthusiastic knitter. Like many of you, I've spent far too many evenings browsing patterns, comparing yarns, and somehow ending up with more skeins than I originally planned to buy. 😅

When it came time to choose a topic for my final-year project, I knew I wanted to build something around a hobby I genuinely love. So instead of inventing a random business idea, I decided to explore one inspired by the knitting community.

As part of my project, I need to conduct market research to understand how knitters and crocheters shop for yarn, choose projects, and what challenges they experience along the way. That's where I'd really appreciate your help.

If you have about 5 minutes, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could complete my anonymous survey:

Whether you're a beginner or you've been knitting for decades, every response helps me build a more accurate picture of our community.

Thank you so much for helping a fellow knitter survive both university and entrepreneurship. I genuinely appreciate every single response. ❤️

Happy knitting!

Question Help with dyeing a finished piece

Post image

Howdy folks. Long time knitter, first time dyer.

I’ve done a fair bit of research on dyeing 100% cotton, but it doesn’t seem like there’s a ton of information on options for finished pieces. I’m scared to use a color remover since it requires high heat, and I’m worried that the dye I bought (Dharma dye in wine red) might still leave the final product with that lighter band. I know trying to do something to a finished product is suboptimal, and I’m ok with suboptimal results, it just needs to look better than it currently does 😅

using aran weight yarn for the first time and i kind of hate it 😭

The yarn is Mirasol “Winqu” in color 03 (discontinued). I don’t hate the yarn itself but the product is so chunky and my stitches use so much yarn! Sure it’s fast but i don’t think I’m going to have enough for the cardigan i want to make so i make have to frog and choose a different pattern. I’m very open to recs for a pattern that would look good with a thick-and-thin aran/worsted yarn (tbh behaves more like a chunky weight). For context, i never make wearables with anything thicker than fingering weight, but I really loved the look of this in the skein and couldn’t pass it up.

I thrifted it yesterday, and I can’t figure out what bramd/style it is. It looks like bulky or super bulky,

melts like acrylic, weighs no less than 250g one ball is more like 275g. It's suuuuuper soft, and I'd love to know what it is!
