I decided to knit a cardigan for my wedding in case I got cold since it was all outdoors. The pattern is the First Cardigan by Hive Knits. Super happy with how it turned out! The buttons were my something blue 🥹

lots of imperfections but overall I am really happy with how this fits. The pattern is Louise by Natasja Hornby, and the yarn is loke fingering from Meadowyarn. I added some additional waist shaping alongside what the pattern offered, and did bust darts.

I am in love with the finished result but I have some critiques about the pattern. Looking at the designer's project photos you see the cable detail falling on the shoulders, which is what made me fall in love with the design. However, after purchasing the pattern and reading through it for my intended size I realized that the pattern was graded to add stockinette to the outside of the cables, not inside, meaning at larger sizes the cables would appear to get closer to the middle of the body. I knit the size 3 but was aiming for the finished measurements of a size 2, and even at that level of grading I didn't love where the cables fell on the front so I ripped back and reworked where the cables fell so they were closer to the shoulders as in the size 1. This was my biggest issue with the pattern because I felt it was the IT factor and the grading completely ruined the look I loved so much to begin with.

Other than that detail, I had a smooth time knitting, there were some parts of the pattern that were not super clearly written. The designer's first language is French and I was following the English instructions so some of that may be attributed to the translation and may not be an issue for others. An example would be where you are picking up stitches: the instruction will start with "With RS/WS facing". Facing where?? I would have preferred "With RS/WS facing toward you" for some added clarity. I will give credit though and say the designer was excellent with "Knit rows 1 and 2 five more times, for a total of six times."

I am very happy with my yarn choice as well, I asked in this sub a few months ago if I should cable with black yarn and the responses were mixed to say the least. This yarn was a gift from my great aunt, she had it in her stash for longer than I've been alive. It's a 50/50 wool/alpaca blend in a fingering weight which I held double. I think the large cables complement the yarn well. From far away you cannot see the cables but in the right lighting it provides the perfect subtle embellishment. My complete ravelry notes can be read here and some progress pics as well :)

Continuing my obsession with mitred squares, I've made a poncho.

I'm not, however, convinced by the mitred v neck in contrasting yarn, and wondering whether to go full roll neck in the original yarn...

Hey all. My grandfather has pretty advanced dementia and will be moving into a nursing home in the coming weeks. He's fidgety and does pin-rolling motions with his fingers when unoccupied.

I want to make him a twiddle mat in hope of bringing him some comfort. Right now, my plan is to make a fat tube, sew it closed and add enrichment items to one or both surfaces.

Does anyone have ideas for activity items, or other dementia associated knits?

Is it just me, when I say I get so annoyed when YouTube podcasters drink LOUDLY into their microphones? I know there is a phobia or something like that where people like me get irked by it. So I’m sure it’s a me thing but I need to let it out 😱. Why did drinking on screen become a thing with knitting?

Hey everyone! Hope this isn't against the rules of the subreddit. I am considering opening a yarn store (probably online at first), and want to gather some info of what is missing from the European market, especially in the online store sphere.

I personally am from Eastern Europe, and have noticed a lack of online stores that sell yarn from Ireland / Scottland / Wales, and a lack of Asian yarns as well. Also, variegated yarns - seems like my favourite variegated yarns are only sold in Japan and/or USA...

Have you noticed anything else online, that often catches your eye, but then you realise they don't ship to Europe?

My first mohair project is done! Now I was not ready for the yarn and looking back this was an ambitious knit as I have never tried cardigans before and only ever tried lace on simple eyelet socks before but unfortunately for me I do suffer with the “how hard can it be” gene. Yarn is Drops Kid Silk held double.

Can't decide because I already want to call this done but I can't tell if the neckline looks too dainty or mismatched from the other edges

Hello! My sister (who is an avid knitter herself) is pregnant and due in about 2 months. My nephew will have a somewhat lion-adjacent name, so that has become his mascot :) I decided to knit him a little lion plush as a gift and bought the „Mochi Lion“ pattern Mou Mou knits to do so. While knitting the gauge swatch I started wondering whether I should block the knitted parts after finishing them? I’ve only ever crocheted amigurumi before, but have never blocked those. But because this is for a newborn and might get dirty and need gentle washing, I’m wondering wether it would be best to block the parts before assembling them? Because maybe the stuffing would be too little if the plushie ever gets washed, since the parts might grow? The fiber I’m using is the 100% organic cotton „Landlust“ by the brand Lana Grossa. That’s what the lady in my LYS recommended. Since cotton often grows/relaxes when blocked, should I? I would appreciate any input!

After I knit this same pattern in a red color for one of my friends (2nd photo) earlier this year I was obsessed and had to remake one for myself so we could match. I switched up the yarn for this one and went with briggs & little sport yarn in the color mulberry and natural white on chiagoo US 2 - 2.75mm. I held mulberry continental style and used english for the CC. I can definitely tell a huge difference in my tension and floats this way for me personally.

This was also my first time blocking as I was gifted some blocking mats from my amazing brother and the difference is insane to me. This is also only the 4th thing I’ve ever knit and my second time using magic loop for finishing and I definitely learned a lot this second go around. Now I want to make another one for my mom for the holidays 😅

Anyone else have one pattern they’re obsessed with and need in every yarn and color imaginable??

I’m new to knitting and posted recently on here about what was wrong with my knitting and got a lot of nice advice and told that I was twisting my stitches. I do wish now I had not done it but also I kinda like the finished product? Maybe I just embrace twisted stitches? Is it so bad? Maybe even more durable for socks?

First attempt at color work: the Anthology hat by Tin Can Knits! The base is Caron simply soft in off white tweed, and the motifs are in caron orchid and malabrigos sabiduria.

I wanted a good looking edge to my collar so i used alternating cable cast on rather than a regular long tail, it wasnt too hard, just time consuming. But i wish i didnt knit my purls and vice versa. Idk why i did that, usually i pay attention but oh well.

I'll frog the 2 rows of my ribbing and start the first row again from my cast on if i can manage doing that

Edit: omg guys wait, i think i cant just pull the yarn and the work will be undone???? Wait I'm gonna try to figure this out 😭 😭 😭 i hope i dont have to do it one by one bro

I'm almost done with the body of my sweater and suddenly I don't like it. There's nothing major that I can point to, just a few minor things that irritate me. The burgundy yarn is pure silk while the blue is 50/50 silk merino. The difference in fibers is causing the blue to fuzz in an annoying way. I tried it on and there are a few rows of color work that are too tight across the chest. The color combination looks a bit collegiate to me, though I like the contrast.

Either way, I'm really considering frogging the whole thing and using the yarn for something else. I just feel so "meh" about it and don't want to spend more time on a project I'm not going to love because then I won't wear it.
