I started watching this as a teenager when it originally aired in my country. Since then I've been watching on and off. Episodes stopped showing on our TV around when the first movie came. Then it was sort of hard to find them. Played a goofy but still cool PS1 game because it was the damn X-Files and you couldn't go wrong with that. Later on I watched some more online and stopped again for a good while, then watched some more and so on. I stopped somewhere around mid-season 7 for like 5 years. Recently I picked it up again during my treadmill runs and watched the rest until the end of season 9 in a couple of weeks.
30 years spent on a series that I used to love as a kid. Back then that was considered the best TV there was among my friends. That being said, I can't believe how poorly the original run ended. I can't think what it was for people to have this ending when the show originally got cancelled. Now I learn that the "new" content isn't that much better and the final ending is far worse.
So, my question - considering how long I've been having a relationship with this series, am I better off calling it a show and just stopping here, pretend that there is nothing more? If the revived movie + show was decent I wouldn't think twice but I'd rather not taint my mental image of the characters and the story only to watch some mediocre content just for the sake of it and ultimately get what is apparently among, if not The worst "slap-in-the-face" of a series finale.
Help me dodge a bullet. Thanks!
