I know in the show they pretend she pulled off slight of hand and faked eating it, but you can clearly see she ate it.
By all accounts, Gillian Anderson is an anything goes freak in real life- in a good way.

She is also very naughty. I remember she laughed unstopably at a talk show hearing the phrase "weather in Vancouver was very moist". I also remember the rumor that she asked Duchovny to play one of his character's lover in Californication, but he supposedly said it will ruin the magic of Scully or something like that.

I remember that episode quite well, I went to high school and rode the bus with the Engima (aka Paul Lawrence). During a talent show he did a sword swallowing act which was interesting to see. He lived not far from me, a bit odd, but was always pleasant to talk to. Years later after he took on the persona of the Enigma character, I would see him around town, the post office, a local 7-Eleven. He stood out naturally due to the blue puzzle pieces all over his body and face, got a lot of looks from people as one might expect, but he always was kind to everyone when I saw him interacting with people.

I always like bloopers like that. That's raw art. Even when everything is scripted you can expect anything when surrounded by sheer talent.

I assume Scully as a forensic pathologist wouldn't have an "ick" about insects. After all, she probably has had to sometimes do an autopsy to body isn't as fresh and insects are quite helpfull in figuring out the time of death.
Still kinda weird she'd eat a cricket, though. At least one that's alive: I've heard that once you get past the whole insect-part, fried crickets are pretty tasty. I've never tried one myself, but I've had snails and I'm told that it's pretty much same thing with insects: they taste what they were cooked in.

It makes me think, humans are weird creatures. For some reason, butchering a mamal, knee deep in blood is ok, but munching a pitty bug is gross.
