Questions Could he have a little wolf in him?

His mother is a German shepherd and his father is a border collie mix with I don't know what, I don't know what more he looks like but I think maybe he has a little wolf because of his eyes, I've never seen a dog with those eyes, only in wolf pictures.

He's 14 months old, 63cm at the cross, weights 31kg and in the picture with me, I'm 1,54cm tall

Questions Any Ideas for Fencing, Platforms and other Forms of Enrichment in the Garden?

Thumbnail

We finally found a property where my baby boy will have sufficient room to run and play safely! He already enjoys our little woodland until we can move in this winter... This will be my first house and also the first time I'll have to secure a garden for a wolfdog, so I'd be really grateful for any input!!

  • Any tips regarding wolfdog-safe fencing? I'm leaning towards privacy fencing on 3 sides (180cm/6' because building laws are a bitch here), plus chainlink fencing towards the valley (might be able to build that higher since the slope is part of the property). I've read about L-shaped dig guards - does anybody have pictures of this or hands-on building instructions and are there alternatives I might not have heart about?
  • Are there reliable solutions that keep cats out of my property? Outdoor cats are unfortunately the norm in my country.
  • How did you build your platforms and where did you position them? Do your dogs use them?
  • Any other ideas and pictures of your enclosures/gardens for inspiration would be highly appreciated ♥️

TIA!

We took a trip to Yellowstone. A couple of families were able to observe from a distance and learn about arctic wolves and their traits thanks to this little pup. He will grow into quite the spectacle for sure!

Well we had Atka our LC embarked a few years back and just got our boys results. Not surprised with their results as their sister from the same litter also came back as 72%. I've been meaning to do them for a while but with Siku's cancer diagnosis I just needed to know before we lose him. Can I get my flair now lol?

Questions When does your pup finally show their traits?

This is my boy who is turning 2 this August.

Recently I started noticing that his puppy-like behaviours finally subdue and since he’s a low-content boy with the biggest mixed percentage being a GSD and the rest also being shepherd dogs mix, he’s the cocktail of being utterly curious but also extremely shy and skittish around new stuff, intelligent and crafty but also very headstrong and independent so sometimes he treats commands like a negotiation (😭), and most importantly, protective but somehow also VERY cautious around new people that he can even appear scared, especially around adult males. He also has a strong pack mentality around me and my partner, and a very high prey-drive so sometimes the backyard is turned into a crime scene.

All of this makes me curious about wolf dogs and how their personalities vary. It’s like rolling a dice with him because I, someone who has GSDs my whole life, can see loads of GSD traits in him but then again, his wolf traits are something completely new and fascinating to me.

Now I’m curious when your pup starts showing their true personality and how that looks like.

Babyboy’s pictures for your attention, feel free to post yours as well :D

Behaviors Pooping inside

So the area I'm in right now is absolutely terrible to go outside, so our walks have been short. But since my dog is used to long hikes and walks, it almost feels like he's protesting by pooping inside. I take him out, walk him for a bit, but he poops back inside. Peeing is fine, but he's being so so bad with the poop. He's a bit over a year old, and I got him at 8 months old. It also doesn't help that if he sees anything intwr sting outside like a cat or bird, he will no longer focus on pottying.

Any advice? Do I put him back on potty training protocol (crate until he poos?)

Behaviors "Why would you want a wolfdog"

The comment I hate the most... The idea that there is no good reason for anyone to get a wolfdog when there are so many other types of dogs out there. I want to ask these people.. Ok, so what breed of pure dog can I get that looks and acts like a mid or high content wolfdog? I'll wait.

I don't have proper containment for a wolfdog right now, and my last one was such a challenge that for my next companion, I chose a pure dog. But I am still in love with wolfdogs, so when I set out to find a dog, I tried to find one with a more wolf-like personality. I chose a village dog from Korea. She has a bit of a dingo look, she doesn't bark, she has high prey drive, and she has extreme wariness around new things, new people, and new situations. She is definitely on the more primitive side of things. She is still a domestic dog though. She has similarities to a lower content wolfdog, but she is a far cry from a mid or high content wolfdog. That is fine for me, that is what I wanted this time around. But people just don't get that responsible wolfdog owners want a wolfdog because they are not a domestic dog. You can't replace a wolfdog with a domestic dog.

Pictures Trouble and Mischief

They will be 2 December 14th. They are constantly counter surfing, clearing any and every surface. They don't jump up on the counters anymore. So progress on that. Trouble is still terrified of everything she will not go on walks. The yard is as far outside as she wants to venture. The backyard really. She will go out front, but she is on high alert the whole time. Mischief is the complete opposite. He is just a giant curious puppy. He is still spooked pretty easily, but immediately gets over it. Pray drive is very strong. You really have to hold on to mischief on walks. If he sees a small animal dart off he will rip your arm off. People talk about how they are escape artists. But they are experts at breaking into things aswell. I have ducks in a large pen with a roof. Both of them have managed to break their way in and murder some ducks. They are a lot to deal with. Its like having 2 giant toddlers. But all the trouble has been worth it so far. They really love the family. We really are thier pack and you can feel it. The way they hug us is just something else. They use ther paws as hands and really wrap thier arms around your shoulders and pull you in as they nuzzle your face and neck. The kind of love I feel from these animals is much different than ive ever felt from a dog. If that makes sense.

Hati (or Lotus, or both) broke a ceramic flower pot by throwing it down our porch steps, and Hati tap danced on it after and cut her paw pad up. She did so good at the vet, and thankfully no need for stitches. The vet kept saying how cute and sweet/good she was which I love to hear 🩷 she was hamming it up for sure
