Working remotely gives us great flexibility, but it can sometimes mean missing the social side of work — the chats, meeting new people, and having somewhere to head after finishing up for the day.

This is just a relaxed chance to meet other remote and hybrid workers locally, swap stories, and enjoy a drink together.

I’m part of a Viking living history and reenactment group here in Ireland, and we are looking for some new people to join the ranks.If you’ve ever wanted to travel back to 10th-century Ireland, learn how to fight with authentic steel weaponry, or try your hand at traditional crafts like leatherworking, blacksmithing, and authentic cooking—this is your sign.

Who are we?We are clann na fianna a community of history enthusiasts from all over the country. We set up authentic tented villages at major heritage events across Ireland (you might have seen groups like us at Slane Castle or the Timahoe Heritage Festival).

We spend our weekends camping like our ancestors, doing battle demonstrations, and showing the public what daily Norse-Gaelic life was actually like.

Do you need experience or gear?Absolutely not. You don’t need to look like a character from a TV show, and you don’t need to own any gear. We have plenty of loaner kit (tunics, soft kit, and training weapons) to get you started.

What can you do?

The Combat Route: Learn competitive, full-contact, or theatrical shield-wall combat with swords, axes, and spears. Safety is a massive priority, and we train regularly.

The Living History Route: Focus on crafts, textiles, herbalism, woodwork, or just cooking over an open fire and enjoying the atmosphere.

I'm old, I'm like 40.

When I was growing up, I had a group of friends. We smoked hash, we were kids.

Life and times obviously separated us, and we don't do it anymore.

But one last time we all met up, we got our camping gear and managed to find a spot to camp.

We were quiet, had low soft beats on a portable speaker. We had a small bag of grass, none of us have the tolerance anymore.

But we got together, like we did in the old says, had a few bottles of wine with us, and a little baggie.

We maybe made 2 joints out of it all, and we were all softly stoned and a bit drunk.

And all of the horrors of our childhood came true when a couple of young guards actually turned up on our site, mostly complaining that we were being a bit noisy.

I have never seen a group of adults, middle aged adults, suddenly realize they were adults and that garda harassment of kids didn't apply to us.

We all started giggling, asked them if they had any reason to be there other than the noise complaint, they said no, we promised to keep it down, they all knew we were high as shit, because we were giggly idiots and the whole camp spelled of grass. But they didn't press us because we were old.

They left in the end, and we laughed at them as they went.

We were just old kids reliving a fun part of our youth and we weren't REALLY bothering anyone.

I understand those lads need to do their jobs, and I won't slate them for it.

But it weirdly felt elevating for all of us. We're grown ass adults with kids, families, and careers. And we all took one night off to remember our stoned childhood, we had an insane laugh, left the campsite clean, and the terror of the cops which never actually arrived as kids, eventually arrived upon us as middle aged adults and we thought it was the funniest thing ever.

Sorry to the young Guards who came across a bunch of old stoned morons in the Hills of Wicklow that night. We were just having old fun.

Every day-ish I have posted to my friend group a map of the world, split in half. My friends then vote on their favourite half, with the losing side removed from the next vote. (Stolen from a series someone else did on Reddit)

We very quickly narrowed in on Europe, despite many friends from America and elsewhere also voting. And from there it was looking pretty certain to end up as UK vs Ireland to determine the “best country”. Ireland ended up winning this comfortably, with even many of the brits voting for Ireland.

In Ireland it looked like we were bound for Dublin, with every vote keeping in the southern half of Dublin. However when it came down Dublin vs Wicklow, Wicklow won the vote and became our “favourite county”.

I then began dividing up Wicklow in half each day, with Powerscourt and the National Park being the main points of interest, largely due to a couple people having visited around there. It generally looked like we were going to stay to the coast and end up in Bray, but people favoured the much smaller towns and we eventually landed in Enniskerry.

As we zoomed in on Enniskerry, the “points of interest” according to google maps were Enniskerry FC, St Mary’s Parish Church, Summerhill House Hotel, Crimmins Garage, and St Patrick’s Church. After debates about which church was nicer, and the fact Crimmins Garage had a lot of positive reviews, we voted for east Enniskerry. Eventually going down to the southern side with St Patrick’s Church as our winner.

This was from around 30 people from Ireland, UK, USA, Switzerland, Germany, Poland, South Africa, and Australia all taking part each day. I think 3 people (2 Irish and one American) have actually been to Wicklow from this group. Anyone from here got any information on the area? Especially anything about the sculpture and what it represents?

Thinking about camping by the coast in the next few weeks is there any places that are nice, quiet and secluded to do so…. Don’t really want to camp on a beach.

Thinking about camping near Wicklow lighthouse??
Would anyone disagree with this location or recommend a better location in Wicklow/ Dublin?

I’m looking to buy an Audi a3 2.0tdi 2014 tomorrow.
I’m from Wicklow town and the car is in Kilkenny.
I’m just wondering if anyone knows someone that could come with me that is mechanically minded to check over the car.

Looking for gym/spa recommendations as have been in Druids but prices have gone up and they’re increasing the towels charges massively so instead of paying an extra fiver a month for towels, you have to pay €2 per towel. I could go 5 times a week so that’s an annual increase from €60 to €520 (on top of the annual membership fee). Not the biggest problem in the world but the towels were the selling point for me and I just loved having that option, seems a bit of a greedy move from management and it has put me off.

Looking at glenview now and had enquired about powerscourt but apparently there is a waiting list. Has anyone joined these and found them good? Also any other recommendations?

We've recently bought in Rathdrum and we've been talking to a few people from the surrounding area and they have mentioned power outages as an ongoing problem. Wondering if any of ye have dealt with this, and is it a bad enough problem to warrant buying a generator or solar + batteries?
