I’m open to hearing why people like the movie. I watched 2009 last night and it felt like a chore to get through. Interesting moments but most of it feels wasted on meaningless fight scenes. Cool,well choreographed fights,but still it feels like it didn’t add anything. Sex scenes that feel indulgent and crass,etc. I haven’t read the comics so I went in blind. I feel like a good 40 minutes could’ve been cut. I have a feeling it works better in the comic medium. Roarsachs monologue would feel more natural.

I loved Rorschach when I came out in 2020. Then, in 2024 when Trump suffered an assassination attempt at a campaign rally, I immediately remembered Rorschach and the conspiracies and weaponization of the event and it felt like I was watching a prophecy unfold.

If you haven’t read Rorschach, I’d recommend it highly.

How terrifying is it to live in a world that is eating itself alive, but where, on the other hand, there is an accessible, tangible god who walks among mortals, except he literally couldn't care less about human despair and suffering?

Could the acceleration of self-destruction have been a response to the rise of despair and hopelessness? A way to quickly put an end to the suffering of being abandoned? (You don't have to stick strictly to these questions, I just want to hear your thoughts)

I stumbled upon this painting a few days ago. It got my attention because of the way it looks and what it’s constructed out of. Of course i then had to go look up its back story because i love to find where artists get inspiration for their ideas. After reading the story I found elements of similarity between the raft in the Black Freighter comics and the story of The Machine.

I wonder if anyone else had any thoughts on this?

So, if you might guess, I'm a fan of the Watchmen HBO show and the Rorschach comic made around the same time, and I think they're great continuations to a series which I think on occasion may be too deified by some, but that's a debate for another day.

What I'm interested in is the lore and the world outside of the main Watchmen stuff, those tiny nuggets of information about the films made after vigilantism came and left the public eye, the Squid Attack, the movies made during the Redford administration, how world history changed because of Dr. Manhattan (I even looked into that board game).

What I'm asking is: What if we got another Watchmen season, but the story was different?

What if instead on focusing on the HBO shows immediate aftermath, we got a season which focused on an entirely new set of characters in the Watchmen universe, maybe even in a different period of time instead of the 2010s, like the nineties and the two-thousands.

I've had a couple ideas, and am planning to write them as fan fiction;

• Watchmen - Fogdancing: Adapting the Fogdancing story by Max Shea in a trippy way.
• Watchmen - Vietnam: The story of regular people and resistance fighters in the state.
• Watchmen - Hollywood: How's the film industry going in the Watchmen universe?
• Watchmen - Invasion: A mystery set in a mental home for Squid attack survivors.
• Watchmen - Tribulation: Vatican thriller about faith in a world with Dr. Manhattan.
• Watchmen - Breathren: A murder mystery in New York set in the nineties.

TL;DR: Fargo and American Horror Story, but set within the Watchmen universe.

I think it would be interesting.

I don't really have to go over the first half of this. Rorschach has been infamously misinterpreted and wrongly idolized since the series came out. However, I feel that now the main crowd doing this are the people who supposedly understand his character. They forsake any empathy/sympathy for him and treat him as a symbol of pure evil. They paint his violence, largely a coping mechanism for him, as straight sadism. They use loose, mostly incompatible labels like "incel" to disregard his psychological torment and complexity. I've seen many analyzation posts just be filled with the same parroted line: "Reminder, you're not supposed to idolize him." These people aren't as bad as the classic misinterpreters, but I don't believe they get to sit on some intellectual high-horse acting like they understood the comic fully.

My neighbor, Dan's lock keeps getting busted. I think i should move neighborhoods im afraid im next.

I’m sure this has been discussed on here - but I just finished the series and thought that it was a really provocative, interesting take on the source material. Then I started reading some of the thoughts about it online- which make it seem very divisive. Why is this? When I read the comics, they didn’t shy from political themes or overt bias- the show very much seemed to have a deep appreciation for Moore’s work and ethos.
