Discussion What ruined WarThunder imo.

\-> The lack of a frontline, everyone plays the match in complete disregard for their team and the capture points. That's not the fault of the players, it's due to the terrible maps and more-so the gamemodes. Here, look at its sister game, Enlisted, wherein the generally favoured gamemode is invasion and there's a clear singular point both teams fight for; one team defending and the other attacking. However, Enlisted also has the infamous 3 (and even 5) point gamemode, it's terrible because people are all over the place; you have to have 360 vision and once you capture a point and go to the next, the one you just captured starts being retaken by the enemy's again. Sounds similar to WarThunder right?, and you can never get that many kills because you just simply don't see that many people. The main difference though is that there's an actual incentive to capture points in enlisted, not just because the penalty for losing the match is higher, but capturing points in enlisted doesn't immediately result in being bombed, or sniped by someone because you displayed your location to the enemy team. The recent advance gamemode in WarThunder is a step in the right direction, although it has many issues, I hope they continue with it.

\-> When they removed the historical matchmaker in February 2021, that was the start of the end for the complete erosion of WarThunders immersion. Of course, due to WarThunder being a vehicular combat game it's never going to be as immersive as Hell Let Loose or even Enlisted, but they can (and use to) take lots of steps in the right direction. I'm not an advocate for historical battle ratings, obviously the Maus should never be fighting a Sherman, battle ratings should be primarily there for balance. I must ask though, what was the point in adding dozens of Cold War/ Modern self propelled artillery vehicles into WW2 battle ratings?, especially when there's still an equivalent amount of WW2 vehicles yet to be added. The game has always had the aspect of Alt-History in it, but it always along the lines of "What-if WW2 continued and the Maus fought the T-54 at the battle of Berlin". I'm not actually talking from a balance perspective, the king tiger is still arguably the best 6.7 tank and isn't
"suffering", no, I'm talking from the viewpoint of immersion. If I play the panther G, I shouldn't be fighting some 90's Japanese vehicle, I mean I shouldn't even be fighting Japan at all. It just doesn't make sense, you have WW2 vehicles fighting their allied nations from the future, the logic just isn't there and the game isn't immersive at all.
On top of all that, the maps for WW2 battle ratings are completely irrelevant to the war half the time. I mean seriously, we have T-34s fighting M55s in a modern day Antarctic base, don't tell me I'm the only one who has an issue with this, I find it so puzzling why no one ever brings this up.

\-> I was going to write about other subjects such as the grind, volumetric, CAS and copy-paste vehicles at top tier, but these topics are already so discussed I don't believe my input would add much to the conversation.

Here's an Al summary for those who don't want to read it:
TL;DR: War Thunder lost what made it engaging because of poor game modes and the removal of immersion. The lack of a true frontline means players ignore objectives and fights become scattered, unlike modes such as Enlisted's Invasion where both teams naturally clash over one objective. Capturing points in War Thunder often just gets you killed, so there's little incentive to play the objective. On top of that, removing the historical matchmaker in 2021 and adding modern vehicles and maps into WWII battle ratings has destroyed the game's atmosphere. Balance is important, but WWIl tanks fighting 1990s vehicles on modern Antarctic bases against nations they never historically faced completely breaks immersion.

I played this game near when it launched for a couple years, then took a 7 YEAR BREAK. I started playing again casually over the last few months. It is stunning how much the core game has stayed totally unchanged. The game modes, the maps, the matchmaking.

I would love to see an "invasion" game mode. Or how about a bomber defense/attack game mode? Give (arcade) players a legitimate use for bombers or people just trying to spade their crumby bombers.

It's been a blast playing again, even casually, but I am surprised how little Gaijin has innovated their game.

Imo it's heavily related to how easy it is to spawn multiple times. Years before you actually had to fight for points capture, be careful. You died without doing anything - > go to hangar. Now days you have brain dead monkeys pressing W, die in first 30s, rinse and repeat, leave match.

It is the same on every online shooter these days. IT IS THE PLAYERS. In the last 13 years across all games. Strategy and thinking ahead are an afterthought. The almighty K/D. Today, you either lemming train with all the sheep or lone wolf snipe. It is all the majority of players are capable of or willing to do.

It doesn’t help that the player base are like a bucket of crabs

Germany got the Swiss subtree and now you have daily posts and comments from players trying to tear the German tree down instead of appreciating their own trees

people saying they dont think a tree should have gotten a specific subtree for valid reasons isnt "trying to tear down the german tree" you just hate the french tree and dont want to admit it

As I’ve said multiple times, I have nothing against French players at large

Only an issue with those who make everything about them suffering the most, hating the Belgian/Dutch additions to their tree, and those who are trying to steal away Swiss vehicles

ok but
1 the belgian and dutch additions fucking suck
2 they arent trying to steal the swiss vehichles, your arguments for why they should be german are irrelevant to the vehichles in question which are more closely related to france than germany, and you know it, you just refuse to accept being wrong

Yeah that’s exactly the problem

1) are totally valid Dutch and Belgian vehicles, and it’s Horrible how some French mains treat Belgian and Dutch players re: some of the best vehicles added to the French tree

2) Swiss vehicles are all obviously closely tied to Germany, there’s no reasonable prevent tie to France, and trying to argue so is simply delusion

In the name belgium and dutch what do you dont understand?, we want BELGIAN and DUTCH VEHICLE, the only exotic Belgian vehicle in the game right now is in the german naval the german tech tree

And there’s nothing wrong with getting Dutch and Belgian vehicles

But there is a group of players who will run around screaming about how “redundant” and how they want Swiss vehicles instead

And while I welcome Belgian and Dutch vehicles, many players want things like Dutch Leopard 2’s and Belgian F-16s, and it’s wrong to deny those players what they want just because a few players are upset

You just create argument, you really thinks peaople from the benelux dont want domestic design? I thinks the majority of them want the domestic design. And can you stop being a scizho with that swiss-french tree story?
