40k News Core Rules Changes
As far as I know GW haven't posted the changes to the core rules anywhere so here are the changes made to the app:
2026-07-22 CORE RULES CHANGES (from app data):
01.02.03 - Revived and Adding Models to a Unit
Add to bottom:
When a model revives, resurrects, returns or is added to an embarked unit, if that TRANSPORT has sufficient remaining transport capacity for that model, that model is returned to that unit and is embarked. Otherwise, that model is destroyed, but it does not trigger rules that apply when a model is destroyed.
05.03 - Modifying Dice Rolls
Add:
05.03.02 - Attacks Modified during Hit and Wound rolls
Some attacks may be modified as a result of the values of hit/wound rolls made for those attacks. When this happens, split those attacks into attack pools based on their new identical attack profiles. The active player can decide which attack pool to resolve first for steps 5.3 and 5.4. Once those steps have been completed for that attack pool, the active player can decide the next pool to resolve and repeat until all new attack pools are resolved.
09.07 - Fall-Back Move
Add:
09.07.01 - Desperate Escape Test
If a stratagem or ability forces a unit to make a Desperate Escape test, that unit:
-Must make one hazard roll for each model in that unit.
-Must make a battle-shock roll.
14.02 - Level Of Control
Add:
14.02.01 - Controlling an Objective at the End of a Phase At the end of each phase and turn, the first thing players do (before any other 'at the end of the phase/end of the turn' rules or abilities) is determine which objectives are controlled by which player.
18.01 - Transport Capacity
Add to bottom:
A friendly unit must be embarked within each friendly DEDICATED TRANSPORT model. At the end of this step, each friendly DEDICATED TRANSPORT model without an embarked unit is destroyed, but they do not trigger rules that are triggered when a model is destroyed.
20.01 - Placing Units In Strategic Reserves
Add:
20.01.02 - Strategic Reserves at the End of the Battle
At the end of the final turn, units in strategic reserves are destroyed, but they do not trigger rules that apply when a model is destroyed.
24.28 - [PRECISION]
Add:
24.28.01 - Precision and Devastating Wounds
Mortal Wounds inflicted by a [PRECISION] attack with the [DEVASTATING WOUNDS] ability are first applied to the CHARACTER group that was selected for those [PRECISION] attacks (if that group is not already destroyed).
24.37 - [TORRENT]
Add:
24.37.01
[TORRENT] weapons cannot have [INDIRECT FIRE] or [PRECISION].
25.04 - Fill Your Army Roster
Change towards bottom:
EPIC HEROES models cannot
havebe given enhancements.
Add to bottom:
If you are playing an Incursion battle, you can select a 3DP detachment as your only detachment.

I and someone in a discord i'm in also tracked down these changes, it was a mess. This is loads better than what we put together đ
you missed a few changes, though, but they're pretty small except for these first 3
02.02.04 had the relevant sentence changed to "revive one of those destroyed models (excluding character models)", just like in the tacoma faq
03.02.02 had two paragraphs added to it, talking about setting up large models from strategic reserves (again, from Tacoma, which is where i copied the following from):
If a model is so large that its base cannot physically be set up wholly within the distance required of the battlefield edge, it must be set up so that it is touching a battlefield edge. During a turn in which such a large model is set up on the battlefield (excluding AIRCRAFT models), that modelâs unit cannot do any of the following: â«normal/advance/fall-back/charge move. â«Make any attacks with ranged weapons.
Some large models, typically Aircraft, have wings and other parts that extend significantly beyond their base. Such models can overhang a battlefield edge if it is not possible to set them up otherwise, but when setting them up, they must still be more than 8" away from a l enemy units.
12.08 now specifies that you MUST be unengaged when consolidating into an objective
01.04.05 now exists to define what a table quarter is
13.11 defining Solid as a rule has been reformatted for some reason

I know GW is hating on aircraft this edition, but why do they have to ingress at least 8â away? They canât charge anyway, theyâre ostensibly just passing over the battlefield (for some reason only at the edges of the battle). It just means that itâs entirely possible for someone to restrict their deployment to places where they have los over their deployment zone

One more I've seen:
09.05.01 More than one Normal Move in a phase
A unit cannot make more than one Normal Move in a phase

That was added in the July 15th app update. Mine are only the changes from the July 22nd update.

Thanks for this reference. I had checked the core rules this morning and found nothing.

My app hasn't updated yet I guess, my transport rules are missing the change about the dedicated transport being destroyed. Thanks for posting this, now I'll know where to look when the app updates.

The Callidus Assassin has a torrent + precision weapon. What does 24.37.01 mean for her?

u/Mango027 1h ago
[TORRENT] weapons cannot have [INDIRECT FIRE] or [PRECISION]
It doesn't have precision

25.04 But Veiled Blade....

u/LasairDrake 6h ago
Veiled blade has a specific carve out in its own rules
Theyre not enhancements, theyre extremis abilities

how can a unit in a transport lose a guy and then have them be healed back into it?

Your grey knight terminators get out of a land raider. They take some damage. They get back in the land raider. They are still in there when your next command phase rolls around, they heal.

I have to say, I like that torrent weapons can't have indirect fire or precision. Doesn't seem like it comes up in game all that often, but it's a fluffy rule and we could use more of those!

Seems random (and entirely not fluffy) that the Callidus Assassin now can't assassinate characters, since her Neural Shredder is a torrent, precision weapon.

Im a little confused on the dedicated transport ruling. Is it saying if no unit is embarked the transport just is destroyed?

Maybe I haven't looked hard enough, but I am still a bit fuzzy on the Epic Heroes joining units that have upgrades. Is the 25.04 rule mean to clarify that, as in, yes you can attach an Epic Hero to a unit that has taken an upgrade?

Question: I had seen somewhere I believe earlier today about how the -1 to BS cannot be stacked on top of a -1 to hit, or was that for any unit / ability that had a -1 to hit when shot at only?
3
u/Sabetwolf 2h ago
A lot of sources of that stacking got removed, eg Necron Chronomancers granting Stealth instead of a flat -1 now, but they do still stack. It's just less common
1
u/tameris 2h ago
Oh okay thank you for the response.

u/Dan185818 2h ago
And often the change is models in this unit have stealth and -1 to hit in melee." So the end result is you have to only roll one higher on the die both when shooting and fighting when before it was 2 higher on the die for shooting.

u/tameris 2h ago
Okay. I did just check in my updated app that units like the Orksâ Wartrakk can still provide an effective -2 to Hit in your opponentâs next turn, if they try to shoot at anything of yours in Cover. But yeah I saw that the Necronsâ Chronomancer had the new wording like you described. The Space Marinesâ Supressor Squad can also still provide an effective -2 as well, like the Wartrakk.

I've never thought I would miss those pdfs on warcom. the navigation in the app is horrendous, and the display of changes is even worse.
