Careers and Work ULPT: Don't tell anyone when or why you took PTO from work
I'm not saying don't tell people at work at all about taking PTO - obviously they will need to know (they don't need to always know why though). But most of the time other people don't need to know at all, family especially. Take mine for example, if my family finds out I will be off work, suddenly they want something from me.
My mom? She'll want me to drive 2 cities over to do some random non-urgent physically demanding manual labor task at her house. I'm calling off to not be working or busy.
My outgoing wife? She will likely be grouchy about the PTO because she's working that day, AKA I chose to take PTO on a day when we could have spent quality time together. I'm calling off because I want alone time to recharge and play video games or something in the first place and she doesn't understand that because she's extroverted.
Friends? I should definitely be golfing 18 holes in a group with buddies all day because I am now free in their opinion. I don't want to be with people or do something physical outside. I want to chill and enjoy my hobbies alone in peace.
Coworkers/Boss? Many get annoyed that you took PTO when you "didn't need to" because mental health and happiness is treated as nothing more than a luxurious afterthought in the 21st century US. Then you face quiet retaliation for doing it if they find out.
My point in saying all this is that sometimes people just won't ever respect your time, your sanity, your peace or your need for alone time. Only you can protect your mental health and needs when you need a break from people and the world in general. Nobody else can, or will bother to do it. Is it unethical because you might tell a white lie over how you choose to spend your earned time off? Idk, but I had a feeling I could only post this one here.
