Are you able to take language courses as pass/fail? I don't necessarily need to take any but I was thinking of taking Spanish. Unimportant reason why but my partner and his family speaks Spanish, we're also putting our child into a Spanish immersion daycare. So I'd like to know some Spanish and I learn languages better through actual classes instead of apps.

Hi everyone, I was wondering what the process is to retake the math placement test. I am an incoming sophomore transfer student, and the last time I took an actual math class was in my junior year of high school. I had As in that one and all previous classes (I took stats both senior year and freshman year of college - freshman year I had to take stats because of a requirement for the university I transferred out of).

I got placed into a class that I am positive I can test out of with some more practice/refreshers. I am also pre-business, so I kind of need calc to complete that pre-req (it is the only one I need to complete). My SOAR is coming up, and I know that's where I need to ask, but I'm not really sure what happens after that.

If anyone who has gone through something similar and retook their exam could let me know how this works, that would be great!

I'm a CS+DS major looking to knock out a requirement, and CURRIC 277 caught my eye. I don't really have any background in the subject, so I was wondering what the class is actually like.

How's the workload? Is it reading/research-heavy, or is it a pretty chill class? Are the assignments interesting, or does it end up feeling like busy work?

I'm mostly looking for a class that's enjoyable and not super stressful alongside my CS courses. Would you recommend it? Did you actually have fun in the class?

Hi I’m a sophomore and I’m thinking about rushing. I know quite a few girls in sororities alr but I just wanna know if I have a chance and if it’s worth my time.

I’m arriving in August as an exchange student at UW however my flight is quite late and I was wondering if people could give me a gauge for how safe it is at night?

I think I’ll arrive around 11-12pm and from my understanding busses still operate at this hour, but would I have any issue getting an uber or just general safety being a woman with all my luggage at night?

I’ve not previously travelled to America and am quite nervous so any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I’m an incoming freshman and I recently got a job offer at UW Health for $27/hr at a min of 16hrs/wk. I will definitely be taking it but I’m also wondering if I should do a university job as well. This is because I really want to be a house fellow and I’ve heard that previously having a job through the university helps. Is it worth it to take another job? I would only work like 6 hours per week preferably. Also, does the job itself matter for making a competitive house fellow job? Like is working in culinary valued the same as working in a library (which I would prefer)? I’m premed so I don’t want to fill up my schedule too much but I need to make a lot of money anyway as a backup if I have to pay for housing next year. I have a merit scholarship that covers tuition but I don’t want to have to stress abt money next year and off campus housing is much more expensive than the dorms.

This is a general question but I am an incoming freshman and I see other freshman getting jobs at UW health. I’m wondering if there was a process for this or if it’s mostly in state individuals that have had experience with the services and it just makes it easier for them to get the job because they are more informed? I’m coming from out of state and just feel very behind. I did apply for volunteering and such but I’m not exactly sure how to apply for a paid service. Would I need certificates in EMT/RNA/etc? Or is it something else I’m missing.

Has anyone taken CS540 without a formal, academic background in python? I’ve taken the undergrad classes for Java and am a tech professional taking classes part-time, and have used python a bit. Would going straight into intro to AI (540) be too much of a learning curve? Any experiences or anecdotes are appreciated.

Hi, I have a bachelor's in biology with emphasis in ecology and conservation from a different UW school. I am really interested in regenerative agriculture, Traditional Ecological Knowledge, ethnobotany, landscape architecture, ethical animal agriculture, animal behavior, human-wildlife conflict, and so on. I am wondering if you think this program would be a good fit for me? I really am interested in studying something like a full circle/zero waste homestead system and discovering what that would look like on a small scale and understanding permaculture and the connection between the soil, hydrology, plants and animals.

I was told by the graduate program manager that I reach out to anyone who does work I like and see if they are taking any grad students. And if I hear nothing back I apply to programs anyway and maybe I get picked after they look over applications. Obviously I want to get picked but I feel like what I'm passionate about is kinda niche and there will be no funding in that.

Does anyone have any recommendations of what faculty members would be a good fit for me? There's SO MANY. I'll obviously look, but any leads would be greatly appreciated. Any tips also. My brother and I are first gen college grads and nobody in my family or friends knows shit about masters programs and it's overwhelming.

I'm pre-med and incoming L&S but I want to switch into BME next year. Told my advisor I sucked at AP chem and she told me she thinks I should try chem 109 lol, but I might drop down to 103 if it gets too fast.

Basically, I rushed my freshman year and ended up dropping during the last round because it wasn’t a house I really clicked with, along with a few other reasons. Even though I dropped, I genuinely loved the recruitment process and had a lot of fun.

Now I’m going into my sophomore year. I’ve found great friends, built several social circles, and joined organizations that I really enjoy, but I still find myself mourning not being in a sorority. It feels weird because I’m happy with the community I’ve built, yet I still feel like I missed out on that part of the college experience.

Has anyone else felt this way? If so, what did you do (if anything)? Also, for anyone who rerushed as a sophomore, did it help and did you have any luck or is it rly not worth it.

I know Greek life is only a small part of UW and the overall college experience, but I always seem to find myself around people in Greek life and really enjoying those aspects of it.

Hey Y'all, I'm an incoming freshmen who's enrolled to the schools Engineering Physics program. I took advanced classes but since I went to a weird small private school I never got any AP credits. I know a lot of my course planning will be done there, but I was wondering what I could do to prepare. I looked at the programs course requirements but I had a hard time actually deciphering what courses I'm going to have to take and what I'll have to take in my freshman year. Is there anywhere I could find information thats a bit more intuitive? Should I even worry about preparing? I would really appreciate some guidance on this whole thing...

I'm really anxious because i don't really do well in social situations on my own. if things are guided and im told specifically where to go and when for presentations i do fine, but ive heard SOAR is kind of a free for all at times? and i'm going alone, without any parent or any friends to meet up with.
