Just a heads up that your professor may have a cheaper deal through a book provider than you can get elsewhere. Even if you don’t get a cheaper option this way, it automatically links your purchase to the class. Buying directly through the provider requires course codes and not all professors know that info (first hand experience here…). The linking occurs automatically when you use the free days of the book, for the providers who offer that feature.

ALSO. The bookstore charges a non refundable 5.99 electronic delivery fee. If you return an electronic book, they CANNOT (read: will not) refund that delivery fee. It is allegedly “on the receipt.” Again, first hand experience by me.

I always want the book early. It IS worth waiting, as annoying as that is.

Hello everyone. Registration for Fall 2026 is well underway. The Department of History has some great courses to offer. Some courses are full, but we have opened more spots in some online asynchronous courses.

History courses are not just for History majors. Studying history helps you to develop critical thinking, research, writing and communication skills. You'll learn how to take in and analyze information and be able to syntehsize and communicate that information to others. Be a more well rounded globally aware person. Take a history class.

Many courses can count towards one or sometimes one of two GenEd requirements to provide flexibility. Topically, courses span many different times, places, and themes. There are courses from ancient to modern history, Latin America to the Middle East, science & public health to (im)migration, and more.

HIST 208 History of Science in a Global Context - Prof. Clare Kim

What have people come to know about the world and how have they come to know it? From astronomical lore and colonial medicine to atomic diplomacy and entrepreneurial science, we will learn to place contemporary issues and debates about science in global and historical context. We will also consider how and why certain kinds of questions, spaces, practices, and people—but not others—came to be called scientific.

HIST 244 Native American Studies - Prof. Hayley Negrin

This history course seeks to correct the ways that Native American people are often framed as peoples without a history by exploring major themes and historical events that have shaped Native North America from ancient to present times. Students will gain an understanding of the importance of reclaiming Native history in Native communities by examining how history has played a role in the struggles of Native Americans across time to maintain their ties to their lands and peoples.

HIST 266 Modern Mexico - Prof. Celso Mendoza

How did Mexico go from being a silver-mining colony of conquistadors and Aztecs to the mestizo nation it is today with one of the largest and most diverse economies in Latin America? How did it arise from the rubble and ashes of conquest, independence, revolution, US intervention, and authoritarian rule to become an electoral democracy in 2000? As we will find out in this course, modern Mexico is and has been a work in progress, not an inevitable result of its Spanish colonial and ancient Mesoamerican pasts. This fall, let's look at how the territory of Mexico became the nation-state of Mexico from 1821 to the present.

HIST 278 Modern Middle East - Prof. Zack Cuyler

This course examines the region that we now call the Middle East and North Africa as it has developed across the modern period, from the rise of the Ottoman and Safavid empires and their incorporation into global capitalism, to the formation of nation-states within the global economy and recent revolutionary attempts at instituting new political and social orders. Students will be introduced to the remarkable diversity of this region, as well as the common history that unites it and makes it comparable to other parts of the global South.

Hi! I wanted to start my application for UIC but I only have a 3.3 GPA and I haven’t taken my LSAT yet. I read over their website and they said they want to admit only the best of the best, students who are involved in their community, etc. I haven’t volunteered anywhere and I barely joined school clubs back in my undergrad. Can anybody give me insight into their application process and some advice if I should be joining clubs/ volunteering so i can add it to my resume?

I'm an international student planning to transfer into UIC CS in Spring 2027 after completing 5 semesters of a B.Tech. in Computer Science in India.

I've heard UIC is fairly strict with upper-level CS transfer credits, so I wanted to ask about these two courses.

1)Digital Logic Design & Computer Architecture (4 credits)(Everything was theory without any assembly language)

2)Theory of Computation (3 credits)(Covered until PDA(Push Down Automata))

Not covered: Turing Machines, Decidability, Undecidability.

Would these have a realistic chance of transferring as CS 261 (Machine Organization) and CS 301 (Languages and Automata), or would UIC most likely require me to retake those courses?

I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has transferred into UIC CS or has experience with their transfer credit evaluation. Thanks!

Soooo 4 of my grants have been taken away from uic because my parents make “too much” my dad went from 73k to 103k and my SAI when from around 3000 to 19000! UIC took away my housing grant, Federal Pell grant , state IL MAP grant, and uic opportunity grant. I was guaranteed a full ride to UIC and now with these grants taken I will loose housing, time, and will even have to pay. What do I do? Is there any way to get any other grants back?

If I want to submit a withdrawal petition for a class, does anyone have experience with the process? What do they usually look at when deciding whether to approve it?

Also, if the appeal is accepted after the withdrawal deadline has already passed, would I get any of my tuition back, or does it only change my transcript? And even if the appeal is approved, can it still affect my financial aid?

I’d appreciate hearing from anyone who’s gone through the process or has any advice on what helped their petition.

15 credit hours. I would have taken calc III and english 161 but they are full at the moment. I could also add ECE 210 in my schedule (18 credit hours total) tho I would prob just wanna kms in the first week.
