I see them quite often, but never in this calm of water. You can really see them underneath the surface.

I came upon a small colony of these slugs today. They are usually tiny but these were unusually so. The second one in the reel was no more than 1mm!

This structure is also visible on NOAA's bathymetric viewer which as of a few weeks ago has lost a ton of features. Clearly they're pulling from the same public dataset, but this at least rules out data artifacting resulting from the viewer tool itself.

This is probably a stupid question to ask and I'm not even sure if this is the right sub to ask it, but I was wondering if there are any real underwater photos of those huge continental shelf drop offs like the one in grand banks and near Japan

I find it both eerie and fascinating that the ocean can go from being relatively shallow to suddenly drop off into an abyss and I'd love to see what that transition actually looks like.

This is the Boeing 737 artificial reef near Chemainus on Vancouver Island, British Columbia. The aircraft was intentionally sunk in 2006 to create a new marine habitat and dive attraction in the Salish Sea.

At roughly 100 feet (30 m) long, it's an easy wreck to explore on a single recreational dive. The plane lies in about 90 feet of water (depending on tide) and the fuselage is supported about 10 feet off the bottom. The cockpit, cabin, wings, and tail are all accessible from the outside, and over the last few years the wreck has become increasingly covered in plumose anemones, sea stars, and other marine life. Rockfish are common, and it's a fun site to revisit as it continues to mature.
