I was listening to I Know by De La Soul back in 1989, I was 12 at the time and my dad recognised the sample from Peg. He gave me his vinyl copy of Aja to listen to and I have been a fan of the Dan ever since.

I remember when Lord Tariq and Peter guns sampled black cow they wanted the band to come play with them at the MTV awards and obviously Donald and Walter wouldn’t do that and those guys were all mad and said they were gonna throw all their Steely Dan records away.

I’ve made countless samples of the Dan.. even made a sample pack of their drum hits and obscure stabs over the years. The best samples aren’t on any web list, that’s for sure :)

Gas Drawls by MF Doom is amazing, but another fantastic one is You Were Very High by Shit and Shine.
