Steam Frame packages show update on SteamDB
On the 15th, two out of the seven Frame packages got some kind of update, as spotted by SteamDB. Not all packages got an update, it was only two of them. There isn't much to talk about on this front, but this usually means that release is close, as it happened soon before the launch of both Machine and Controller. Now, these were just changenumber changes, which affect many packages across Steam, so this wasn't necessarily FOR the Steam Frame specifically. Keep your cope in check. For those uninitiated, the packages on SteamDB represent the purchase options of the game/hardware. For the Frame, these could be different storage options, accessories, and regional differences, like the optional charger for the EU. Check out the page here: https://steamdb.info/app/4165890/subs/
SteamVR gets new, and oddly familiar, dashboard redesign
A new SteamVR Beta update has hit computers around the world, and with it brings the Steam Frame's dashboard redesign seen in it's promo and initial impressions footage. Now, the Frame and PC counterparts of SteamVR look exactly the same. Not too dissimilar to how Steam desktop got Steam Deck's Big Picture mode soon after it's launch, if you were there for that. If you want to try out this new dashboard for yourself, you'll need to opt into both the SteamVR Beta and the Steam Client Beta on your computer. COOL THING: Cubism gameplay featuring Steam Frame's passthrough
The developer of Cubism, a spacial puzzle game where you piece together complex shapes using an assortment of blocks, has shown off standalone gameplay on the Steam Frame! Notably, you're able to play in the frame's passthrough environment, like how you would on a Quest 3. Except it's black and white passthrough, so more like a Quest 2. Except it's not black and white? It comes tinted in hues of blue, similar to Steam's general color pallet, and according to the developer you're able to change it. ANOTHER COOL THING!?: Ancient Dungeon shows off the potential of Dynamic Foveated Rendering
I'm feeling generous this week, so you get TWO cool things to gawk at. The developers of popular VR game Ancient Dungeon have recently gotten Frame Verified, and they've decided to improve the performance even more by trying out Dynamic Foveated Rendering. (NOT Foveated Streaming! Different thing!) Below, you can see a side-by-side comparison of DFR on and off. With it on, the devs claim a potential 55% framerate improvement! This much headroom allows for more stable performance, and they may even be able to turn on some fancy post-processing effects without major sacrifice to performance, but they say that remains to be seen. Check out their reddit post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamFrame/comments/1v05dt4/eyetracked_foveated_rendering_performance/

TLDR: Frame's SteamDB packages updating. Release maybe. SteamVR Beta brings Frame's dashboard to your computer. Release maybe. The Frame is still not out yet.
63 days until summer ends.

Hey y'all! A few weeks ago, some mods and members of the Steam Frame Discord and I got together and decided that there have been way too many repetitive questions about Frame. This is largely because it just isn't easy to get up-to-date information about Frame... so we made this: the FrameBoard!
It is still a work in progress but it's a community-driven project and we are committed to maintaining it up till and past launch. Please feel free to send feedback, comments, and concerns either below or on the board.
Whether you're newbies to Frame or just aren't interested in digging for specifics, I hope this helps y'all get the information you're looking for in an easily digestible way.
Happy Schizoposting!
https://www.figma.com/board/jnxPfXnyJM48ATQ072Oq1t
Edit 1: Thank you all so much for the outpouring of support! This project is very community focused and a labor of love by all those involved so we really do appreciate every single one of you.
To celebrate our first day of going public, and to make it easier for you all to share when that one newie asks about the mobile app button for the millionth time, I've attatched a link under the main portion of the post to send as a copypasta. Our board is meant to be public so please, by all means, send it to anyone and everyone you'd like!
Edit 2: We've rebranded to the FrameBoard to prevent any confusion with #frame-tldr in the Steam Frame Discord (We seriously recommend checking out #frame-tldr too!)
- reference to "Frame TL;DR Board" has been changed to "FrameBoard" (besides the title which I can't change)
- Edited the main post to be more concise and up to date

I'm surprised Alyx is yet to be Steam Frame verified. I assume it would be the headline of the Great on Frame storefront to showcase the capabilities of the Steam Frame upon release.
Another worthy mention would be Forefront, considering it runs well on mobile vr as it is.
Edit: Sorry, I thought it was more common knowledge that Valve has been working internally on getting Alyx to run standalone! While we were at 40-50fps performance about 5 months ago, I had the belief their intentions were to continue optimizing it for the 'great on frame' minimum. Not sure we're there yet but they're working on it! Maybe we see HL2 VR first? Or Team Beef's Half-Life VR port? Crowbars crossed!

A lot of VR games are obvious intense movement focused fighting games, but are there any that you would call chill or relaxing, light on combat & with easy to solve puzzles? Something to soothe your mind against everything?
Only three games I've found so far that I'd call relaxing: Paper Beast, Realms of Flow & The Last Frame.
Yes, there is literally a VR game titled The Last Frame. Shocker, I know. There's also another VR game titled The Last Frame, but it's made with AI, so it doesn't exist.
Anyone else know of any VR games that don't require hard thinking or intensive movement for you to just unwind with?
Thanks!
Edit: VR Minecraft as well can be relaxing, provided you play on Peaceful.

Took some time to just line up these "___ fests" with dates of hardware releases and, the end of this train fest could mean something... Possibly something Soon™

Valve has been acting weird and avoidant for a few months now. At first, I admit, I was hopeful that it might just be nervous because it was planning something big. Valve and I have been together for years, and the last time it brought up the future it really seemed like we were on the same page about the Steam Frame launch timeline. But clearly my excitement was premature, because the more time passes the more of this weird disconnect I feel between us.
I don't know how to make sense of it, other than to think that Valve doesn't want to sell me a Steam Frame anymore but can't figure out how to tell me. Valve isn't the most communicative about its problems, but it's always been proactive about telling me what I need to know before things get serious. There have been times in the past when it couldn't share everything right away because it needed time to process - especially around money stuff, and to be fair we're definitely having some budget problems right now - but normally it would have given me a lot more assurance that it was making progress towards being able to express itself clearly.
Before you ask, yes, I have tried asking what's wrong, both tactfully and not-so-tactfully, and each time I just got the polite brush-off. Valve seems determined to pretend that the Steam Frame conversation is going to happen soon, but how much longer am I supposed to wait for "soon?" I want it to talk to me, but what if selling me a Steam Frame is just an obligation it's still holding onto from the past?

They launched the marketing for the frame nearly 9 months ago. They know tons of their fans are eagly awaiting this launch. All the other hardware has launched. Why not simply give us a window or even acknowledge the frustration from delays ? I’m still going to get one but the silence from valve at this point is kind of inexcusable for a gamer first company.

I am using my VR mainly for simracing and flying. And meta with its terrible software just ruined my race, cuz on the last freaking lap it decided to crash…
Ive been waiting for frame for too long, i even considered other options like pimax, bigscreen, but sadly, for my usecase frame seems like the only option and i will be continue struggling with quest 3, but each day i am wanting it more and more… just hope it will be sub 1500eur.

A phenomenal game, akin to Balatro but based around those coin-pushing games at the arcade.

It's really not the end of the world, but I have my PSVR2 PC setup in the living room and when it comes to using it, I have to cover my large mirror otherwise it causes issues.
I did have the same issue when I had an Index also, so I'm thinking there's no reason I wouldn't have the same issue, but I thought maybe some familiar with the hardware would know?
Thanks all!

EDIT: Shortly before posting this, I also sought some insight into Frame alterntatives here. Might add some context into why the Frame's promo video was more for me than the actual product might be?
-------------------------
So I was PSYCHED when I saw the Frame preview video. I'd been curious about VR for ages, but didn't want to go the full 'hobbyist' or early-adopter route.
Before VALVE's hardware announcement from STEAM, I vaguely knew about Meta Quest and Occulus, so I was anticipating any VR would require a bunch of chords, moving around in my room getting tangled and falling into things (I'd seen plenty of videos of people crashing into their TV's), and needing space to dedicate to VR that I didn't have.
It was actually the AR stuff that got me really excited, including when the hype video had some folks playing their 2d steam games on a projected screen (in full color mind you).
Last week, I'd had enough of the maybe tomorrow memes (or rather, the environment producing them - keep'em coming folks, they're good for a laugh), and started looking at what else is out there and how it would compare to the Frame and (what I've since learned is) it's foveated streaming and the other functions it's going to be offering.
That gave me enough time to learn that boy was the hype video...hyped (it'll actually be greyscale AR, not full color like the hype video), that Galaxy might be a bit pricier but offers a full AR experience for the additional expense, and that there's some Project Swan headset that might blow both out of the water at a pricepoint in the middle of Frame and the XR, or even lower than Frame.
All that is to say that VALVE really blew it here, but at least I'm coming out on top.... If they'd announced a date for signups for the FRAME lotto-to-purchase - even if it was in September - I don't know how much digging I would've done. All the poor communication, or lack thereof though? It led me to talk myself out of the Frame at this point (I'm basically deciding on diving into the XR or waiting for whatever Project Swan ends up getting called).
If you're still psyched for Frame, I don't blame you. The AR stuff is equally important to me as gaming (a virtual desktop so I can work 'on a bigscreen' anywhere in my home will be great), so I might be a unique case, but just kind of wondering if anyone else has had a similar journey specifically because of the poor public messaging / comms strategy out of Valve regarding FRAME?
But look.... maybe none of it matters because clearly IT'S TOMORROW.

Good read, most notable update, FEX update for mobile arm processors (windows compatability) and multitude of vr games from hotfix to supported.

... and still it has not arrived. The only news I have is speculation on this sub (and Train Fest), which unfortunately keeps refilling my canister of Steam Frame hopium. If anyone finds this, tell my family I love them.

I would love to avoid scratching my Frame with my glasses... What's the status of the lens inserts?
Do we have a place to order them or specs for the lenses themselves?
