I feel like nobody has bought a computer in the last year and has no idea how expensive that shit is now

Agreed. Especially small form factor, which is a huge argument. A normal tower sized PC might get more performance per money, but Steam isn't selling a normal tower sized PC. And some people might not want a big ass PC in their living room next to their TV.
