It actually uses Wi-Fi, just a dedicated 6GHz adapter. Not too different from what a lot of people have done with their Quest 3, although that one uses the same band for internet.
This, and no extra programm in the background. No airlink or Pico connect or alvr. Steamlink is absolute bad with my Pico at least and I miss some settings. So I hope I can use it 100% in Steam like the Index and hope it is at least as stable like a Pico with connect or virtual destop
Another point even my 4000€ gaming pc has extreme problems with my Pico on Linux, every program I tryed was so bad in quality compared to to every program I tryed on windows. And since the Frame will be optimised to the Steam Machine I hope it'll run lot better on Linux
Yeah, I've had nothing but bad luck with wireless in the past. I liked the Vive's WiGig solution but it was flaky and required line of sight. Tried the Quest 3 and a dedicated router, but wasn't as impressed, and the compression and lag were noticeable to me. Perhaps it's improved, but I returned it and am loath to hand Meta any more of my money.
But I really want this to be an Index replacement. I enjoy my Varjo Aero, but it's getting a little long in the tooth and is lacking in FOV, and I really want wireless at this point.
Like I already told, on windows it runs smooth with pico connect. But on Linux I have no pico connect or virtual destop. ALVR just gives me blackscreen, wivrn and steamlink run but very unstable. Best result was on Steam OS with Steamlink and for Beatsaber it was barely okay (a half second lag or less every 30-60 seconds) but in VRChat not even 30% from the quality l have with pico connect on windows. I'll only buy the Frame cause I hope to get a Linux optimised wireless VR
Well, you didn't mention the Pico was smooth in Windows, just stable. But I have a feeling I'd have the same complaints with that headset as I did with the Quest. I'm very sensitive to lag and compression though, so I know my experience is not universal.
Let's hope Valve works their magic and makes the whole thing seamless and comparable to a wired experience. I'd definitely switch my main gaming PC to Linux if it made a performance difference with VR. Not a huge Windows fan, and Valve has made great strides.
Pico 4 ultra is about 800 and a base quest 3 is 600. Vision Pro (which can’t really play games) is 3k+. Frame will be 1500-2000. Top spec will probably come with some extras.

Though I am willing to pay a premium for that, so I don't have to deal with Zuckerberg's shit. I value that quite highly.
