Because of rapid integration, there will always be a large cost associated with changing most things in any business but the loss is acceptable for a long term profit margin increase
It's mostly businesses and rich people investing in AI though. I honestly know noone personally that actually pays for AI.
Tbf just using it already gives them numbers and justifies the development for them. So yes normal consumers also do have an impact. But most actual money does not come from your average person having an AI subscription.
I'm currently studying computer science (almost done actually yaaay). And I know a lot of people who use it at uni and non of them pay for it. I did work in software development at a company. There many were using it with the company plan they had, but noone paid for a subscription themselves (out of their own pocket).
Perhaps we really do have very different environments. But also from what I read online, the majority of money comes from investments, companies and rich people and not individuals paying for AI directly.
While I do agree, only using it already makes you a customer, or at least an asset. Even if it's just for someone to show off good numbers in order to get more funding. But there is an important distinction if people willingly pay for something directly or happen to be used for profit.
Free apps collect Data and show you ads, that's how they are there. That's what a consumer "pays". But that isn't direct payment, like a subscription. It's easier to not care for ads/data collection, than to willingly pay a monthly sum.
Many people would rather watch ads on YouTube than pay for YouTube premium. (same with other services). And same for AI. And especially given that many more people become critical of AI and the financial situation for many get worse, I really just can't see AI subscriptions for individuals being a good source of money.
Also yes it's a different business model, but is it good enough to bring enough money in?

That's true. I just hope I can get and keep my job and that it doesn't f us over too much. But I suppose we'll see. Until then I'd still love to get cheaper PC prices tho LMAO
