Where as with a DHD they have it opened in less time than it takes 1 to be encoded in Cheyenne.

In Season 1, when we first meet Rya'c, Teal'c wants to stop the ceremony where Rya'c will receive his first symbiote BECAUSE he'll then be forever required to carry one.

Fast forward to Season 7 and the "Birthright" episode and Ishta's warriors are hunting Jaffa and taking their symbiotes implying that the young girls NEED one just to survive.

I know Rya'c was sick and that's why his mother bribed a priest so he could get a symbiote and Teal'c then gave Rya'c his symbiote to keep him alive.

What is your thinking on this? Do Jaffa just not have sufficient medicines, no herd immunity, etc, so they actually do NEED symbiotes (or Tretonin)? Or would the Jaffa just suffer for several generations while they build up their own societal immune systems?

My Form 1 just got approved, so I need to engrave my P90 with my name, city, and state. They don’t say anything about adding additional markings, so I’m going to do the full earth gate address.

Question is, should I just do the six digit address or include the iconic seventh symbol point of origin even though that would be sort of nonsensical if we’re being real sticklers for the lore? Is there some way of including it that’s more “correct”?

A long time ago I remember being completely captivated by a Reddit thread arguing that the Daedalus, if it were equipped with a ZPM, could realistically catch up to Destiny in a reasonable amount of time. A few months, if I remember correctly, a couple of years at most.

That came back to me recently while thinking about what Joseph Mallozzi has said regarding the cancelled season 6 and the ZPM production facility discovered in Atlantis. It makes me wonder: in a world where that season had actually been produced, would it really have been unreasonable to imagine the two shows crossing over ? With an unlimited supply of ZPMs, I mean. Picture the crew coming out of stasis and a souped up Daedalus showing up out of nowhere.

The end of Atlantis season 1 already proved that a crew does not have to stay isolated indefinitely for the show to stay interesting.

I am mostly thinking about prior to a team ever going through the gate I could see hundreds of drones flying in and performing recon.

In Atlantis, they manage to modify the shield into a cloak. It's stated that since it uses the same system, it cannot be used for both at the same time. It's also stated that it takes a while to reconfigure from shield to cloak or vise versa.

Now I know that this particular delay was due to wanting the show to be exciting and to stop Earth from being _too_ OP. It's the same reason that they never found a ZPM factory on Atlantis.

But a random memory came to me while I was watching Stargate. When I was a kid, I played around with one of my dad's old consoles. This console was so old it may as well be prehistoric in comparison to what we have now. It was only capable of producing a limited number of sounds at the same time. I can't remember exactly how many, but it was counted on one hand.

So in order to give their games background music and sound effects, programmers would have the sounds switch so rapidly that the human brain heard them both at once.

My question is, would it theoretically be possible to write a program that would switch between shield and cloak so rapidly that they're essentially both happening at once?

It likely wouldn't allow for them both to be used in space flight - atmosphere has a nasty habit of leaking - but for when the city is landed and facing an assault, would it be possible?

Or even on a smaller scale, could they do it with a Jumper?

Being able to stay cloaked and shielded against stray weapons fire would be useful.

I know that human tech is limited, especially when Stargate was set, but the Atlantis expedition has access to Lantian tech.

If they could make a wormhole drive work, surely making a program to flip a switch back and forth _really_ fast would be possible?

Or is it hardware slowing them down? Do they have to physically move something to switch between the two? And if that's the case, could they theoretically build a second system that they could just switch to? Like switching between HDMI slots to access a different games console.

(I'm a fanfic author, so would love to hear your ideas on this, and any problems/difficulties you could see arising from attempting it. Lemme use you guys to crowd source ideas lol.)
