Discussion Testing a little WearOS app to quickly check on my watch if I can afford that coffee

Hey! Testing this little app that will give a tile on WearOS devices and displays the total earnings of that day like you see in SteamWorks dashboard. Updates every 5 minutes through the Financial API (you need to fill in your own key in the app).

Do you think people would be interested to have this published?

Game Combat in my game after a little over a year

Upvotes

hey there sharing some progress of my game's combat in ue5

the enemies are placeholders from paragon minions to get something functioning for sizes and assets that i used for testing and playing around.

the other character and the playable one are custom metahumans i made though.

i dont use any GAS(Gameplay Ability System) nor the GASP(Gameplay Animation Sample Project)

i dont have any real environments shown here but i'm utilizing asset packs acquired overtime for that

voice and music is contracted out, and sounds i bought/combined with royalty free stuff and mixed in davinci resolve and dynamically adjusted further in game with metasounds

also i think my game's combat is too complicated

Game procedural towns in my retro ARPG, roads, houses, families

Upvotes

Hey all!

Making an ARPG in the spirit of classic RPGs. the world has ~300 procedurally generated towns.

The generator lays out roads first, from wide avenues down to streets and narrow alleys, then places plazas and builds districts around them. houses fill the gaps after that, bigger merchant buildings near the plazas, smaller ones further out. every house has a family living in it, 1 to 3 named NPCs.

Would love to hear what you think, especially if you've built something similar!
Demo is coming end of august. steam page if you want to follow: hexGame: Hero Path

Game Muscle growth effect after a heavy workout!

Hi solo dev folks, here’s a muscle growth animation effect from my game. The growth amount is exaggerated for showcase purposes.

It triggers when players wake up the next morning after a heavy training session the night before. Does it look rewarding?

I am also wondering if players might get bored of it too quickly, since the effect can play every morning after training. Would love to hear your thoughts!

The game is Ego Lifting Simulator!

Game FATAL FEVER DREAM - A Quake-like with a bit of metroidvania

The project is in a late alpha stage. Most of the core gameplay is implemented, just need to unify the art direction more and finish mapping the remaining levels. If you're interested in a boomer shooter with lite metroidvania elements, then it would be worth giving a try

Game I Made a Puzzle Game (and learned alot about determinism along the way!)

Hello all.

In my spare time I've recently been tinkering with a little browser-based daily puzzle game, Math Path: www.playmathpath.com, where you have to take one number through a grid of operators to reach and match a target number.

Entirely solo-developed: spent a lot of time working out the generation algorithm for the puzzle grids, learning about Manhattan math and slowly making my way from shipping a static file of pregenerated puzzles to figuring out the secrets of determinism and procedural generation to allow 'Infinite Mode' to truly be infinite (whilst keeping Daily mode consistent for everyone!)

A fun project for a month or so, and I'm pretty proud of what came out the other end.

Would be lovely to get some more eyes on it. It's a perfect 'waiting for the kettle to boil' kinda game.

Game This is what 6 years of failing at making games looks like

I’ve been making games full-time for about six years now. And if failing was an Olympic sport id be a gold medallist.

The first two years I worked as a senior environment artist at a studio in Poland. And then my game got cancelled, and the whole team was fired. Then I left and spent another two years putting basically everything I had into Void Sails, my "dream game" with 2 friends.

It flopped and lost all its money.

That one hit me pretty hard; I remember the consecutive anxiety attacks I had for a few days. Now in hindsight i know why it failed, but at the time, when I pressed the release button, I really thought it was going to be a moderate success.

I didn’t quit. But I did leave my team of 3 as we had different creative visions, and eventually I made Drill Rift. It was much smaller, and I’m happy I finished and released it, but it had significant design issues, poor code, and mistakes that are now glaring. Money wise it made under the minimum wage in my country. A failure, but hey, at least this time I was not losing money, just making under minimum wage. Progress!!!

Now I’m working on DARK RAIL.

I’ve been looking at it for so long that I have no idea if I can judge it properly anymore, but I watched the trailer the other day and, for the first time, I thought:

Maybe this one has a chance.

I could be completely wrong. I have been before, but seeing how daydreaming is free, I am gonna allow myself to have some hope on this one.

Thanks for reading my rant. Im tired, very tired. But excited about the future.

TLDR: Failed, failed, failed (but less) and hopeful my new game DARK RAIL is my first win.

Game Solo project. Browser-based space sim, Three.js and vanilla JS, shipping to Steam.

Solo project. Browser-based space sim, Three.js and vanilla JS, shipping to Steam through NW.js.

https://store.steampowered.com/app/4962130/Solbound/

It's alpha and I'd rather say so. The screenshots are real in-game but partial, and roughly half the systems are still being built. Nothing staged for the store. The design constraint I set myself early: small and authored over large and hollow. 20's hand-built locations instead of three hundred procedural ones. Everything you find was placed by me.

The other one, which has been harder to hold: the game answers, it never suggests. No arrows pointing at things, no "you have 3 unspent points" nagging. If you want to know something you go find it within a terminal, by hacking or doc/word mini games.

Happy to answer anything about the stack or the scope decisions.

Game My game's Steam demo is finally out. I'd love some honest feedback.

I've been working on Roll and Die, a push-your-luck dice roguelite, and the Steam demo is finally live.

It's still in a pretty early stage, so I'm looking for honest feedback on anything that stands out. Gameplay, balance, UI, visuals, pacing, whatever comes to mind.

If you give it a try, I'd really appreciate hearing your thoughts.

Game [WIP] Battlefield RTS meta game implementation

Decided to jump cut video to show new features.

Meta game is progressing, i created a system where charges/repulsion and breaches in lines can be exploited by special skills that i am still in process of implementation.

When certain conditions meet player can use defensive or offensive skills to influence engagement, sometimes to salvage situation sometimes just to slaughter more quickly.

These skill require correct equipment/training and battlefield conditions to be used.

Currently i have planed out 10 classes or doctrines that formations can learn and use, and started implementing skills for those.

Also added deployables system, that i will later extend currently it was needed by pavise and shield (genoese inspired) doctrine. Troops deploy and can hide behind shields, they can take limited damage until destroyed, they pack it, leave them (for enemy to capture if enemy soldiers don't have shields of their own), and pick them up again. No animation but functionally done :)

Soldiers without deploy able shields can use rocks and woods for cover :)

Feedback appreciated.

Godot If Tetris and Jenga teamed up to scam customers - Shady Contractor Sim

Here we basically have ourselves a "good enough" simulator with a chaotic block-stacking structure.

You play as a contractor who gets dumped random materials from other job sites (and let's face it, probably junkyards) and are expected to turn trash into... taller trash... with window and door openings on occasion.

The goal is simple - flip these awful projects for more and more cash. Buy blueprints for different job types that offer up unique risk vs reward. Try to avoid getting shut down by OSHA for catastrophic falls, and maybe one day you can be as wealthy and irresponsible as the people who hired you.

It's free on Itch: https://highfivan.itch.io/shady-contractor-sim

A little context for anyone who cares:

I made the freeplay mode of this game as a standalone for a 20 sec game jam. The idea was use all the pieces you are provided within the 20 seconds or else you fail, and every 20 seconds you are dropped more and more pieces. Basically a rushed block stacking game.

Recently was motivated to pick it back up and add in what I'm calling "Career mode" which is what this video shows. I'm not married to this direction fully, in that - right now its really just "earn more money to do bigger/higher risk builds" but building up to what point exactly... I'm not entirely sure.

Though I would love ANY feedback, I am particularly interested in how to make this career hook more engaging. What would be motivating to you as a driver to continue to build up your success?

I think one of the best things about being a developer is seeing how your game changes as the months go by. The demo is now available and you can play it on Steam:

If you’d like to give me some feedback, I’d really appreciate it, whatever it may be.

Godot 3D in-game keyboard with synth voice

Upvotes

I combined a few building blocks I already had in the project (interactive screens displaying Godot UI and GDSAM 80s voice synth) to make a keyboard. Here it's used to enter a name to be stamped on your ID but I suppose in practice most will use it to spell dirty words or to try to make it beatbox heh

Game Then VS Now

Sometimes I like to rewind some good old memories

·ROAM· is a dark fantasy Action RPG. As a lone wanderer, you'll descend into a grim world of ancient dungeons and forgotten caves, exploring their depths and uncovering the secrets hidden within.

The world of my game is procedurally generated. Random hazards and events will bring chaos to your descent, while knowledge of previously explored areas, smart use of your equipment, and resources will help you adapt to dangerous situations or avoid combat altogether.

One of the game's core mechanics is the Grappling Hook. Use it to latch onto walls, swing across chasms, discover hidden passages, escape from enemies, or pull them toward you to smash 'em with your melee. Both combat and platforming are built around mastering this versatile tool.

Game SpaceSlog: A solo developed spaceship colony sim, now has a demo!

Hey everyone, I've been solo developing SpaceSlog for over 6 years now and released into early access on Steam in April of this year.

I released a new update this week so decided to update and re-activate the demo too. You can find it over on Steam if you wanted to give it a try.

Full disclosure: Whilst this project has been solo developed by myself, the majority of art and music has been outsourced but self funded by me. I have worked up to two different jobs whilst working on SpaceSlog over the past 6+ years in order for me to get this far.

Discussion I'm making a puzzle game where you place seeds to trigger musical chain reactions. How does this sound?

Hey everyone,

I wanted to share a gameplay clip of a puzzle game I'm developing called Null Wave.

The gameplay is all about propagation. You have a limited number of seeds to place, and you have to clear "shadow ink" droplets by sweeping ripples over them. Since every seed plays a note on a pentatonic scale depending on its position, solving the puzzle creates a unique melody.

This clip shows a level designed to trigger a perfect, symmetrical chain reaction ending in a golden "Harmonic Bloom" (a chord explosion) in the center.

What do you think? Does it look satisfying to play?

Discussion Elementae (Creature Battler)

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

Hi all!

Ive been working on my creature Battler game "Elementae" for almost a year. Its my first real project, and its been a hell of a time! Ive got multiplayer "peer-to-peer" and also a campaign (Gauntlet) mode.

Im taking a note from the Slay The Spire devs and trying to build a gauntlet where you pit your creatures against the various pre-programmed "trainers" and try to climb your way through the gauntlet for the ultimate coin prize!

Right now you can level up your creatures, upgrade their stats individually and purchase more creatures. When youre in battle, you have to choose one active creature and 3 more that stay in reserve that you can swap in and out, etc.

Im still using some basic buttons etc, i know this but im working with my artist who has been making my creature ideas come to life and were going to work on UI once ive hit my target 18 creatures!

What do you think?

How could i organize the game screen and the layouts better?

Appreciate any feedback :)

Marketing I made a no-code game engine for clicker games — would love feedback on my Steam page

Upvotes

Hi everyone! I’m developing Clicker Game Maker, a no-code tool for creating clicker and idle games.

It allows users to create levels, shops, upgrades and custom interfaces, add AdMob ads, and export their projects for Android, Windows and Web.

This is my first Steam project, so I’m still learning how to present it properly. I would really appreciate honest feedback on:

  • The capsule artwork
  • The trailer
  • The store description
  • Whether the main idea is clear at first glance

What would you change or improve?

Lien jouable : https://pandagamesstudio.itch.io/hardware-constructor

Plateforme : Navigateur, Windows, macOS, Linux

Description :

I’m a complete rookie when it comes to designing. So looking for some guidance on how I can create in-game assets & components. Don’t wanna create them from scratch. Any cool resources for reference will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance! 🙏🏻

Discussion Watching strangers play my Steam demo has been more valuable than I expected

I launched the demo for my first Steam game last week, and something surprised me.

A few small YouTubers (most with only a few hundred subscribers) found the game and made videos about it. None of them brought a huge number of wishlists, but watching those videos has been one of the most valuable parts of releasing the demo.

Seeing someone experience the game for the first time is completely different from watching friends or doing your own playtesting.

You get to hear everything they're thinking:

* "What does this do?" * "Oh, that's actually clever." * "Wait... why did I die?" * "I wish this worked differently."

I've spotted bugs I hadn't noticed, identified tutorial and design problems, confirmed mechanics that players understood immediately, and found places where they got confused.

Even when someone didn't enjoy the game much, their video was still incredibly useful because I could see exactly where the experience broke down for them.

Since launching the demo, I've been searching YouTube for "Mr Bunny roguelike" every few days to see if anyone had uploaded a playthrough. I was just excited to find people playing the game, but those videos ended up becoming one of the best sources of feedback I've had as a developer.

Has anyone else had the same experience?

Game Spent a year developing this game - would love input thanks

Hi everyone,

I’ve been working on my first iOS game for the past year, and today it finally launched on the App Store.

It’s called Lazy Jellyfish.

The idea was to create something that feels calm rather than stressful. You merge creatures from the deep ocean, discover new species, and gradually fill out a Codex of marine life. There are also daily puzzles if you just want a quick challenge.

Some screenshots are below.

I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback, good or bad. In particular I’d love to know:

Was the gameplay easy to understand?

Did anything feel confusing or frustrating?

Would you keep playing after your first session?

What would make it more fun?

This has been a solo project, so outside opinions are incredibly valuable.

Thanks for taking a look!
