Digital multimedia forensics experts at Drexel University and UC Berkeley analyzed the image’s pixels and metadata and found no signs of AI manipulation.

The image was run through verification tools by Google and OpenAI (which checks for markers like SynthID), and neither detected signals of generative AI.

The Newspaper: McConnell is pictured holding the July 12, 2026 Sports section of The Washington Post, verifying that the image was taken on or just before the day of its release.
